Amanda Fletcher is a yoga teacher who has always wanted to help people become better versions of themselves and embrace life as it is. She has been organizing yoga retreats for 11 years, and that’s how she realized that beyond touristic activities, a lot of people were looking to spend their vacations having a great relaxing time time with friends, wine and music. So, after hearing the advice of many of her retreat guests, she came up with a fantastic idea: a yoga festival!
A yoga festival was the perfect way to encompass every element she thought was important for a great holiday: de-stressing, relaxing and enhancing key life changes. And if it could happen in a place with sun and beach, it would be the most fabulous vacation ever. Maybe somewhere like the Mediterranean Sea in Spain […]
That’s when City2Sand Festival was born. An event with a unique environment, with the intention that all participants embark on a fast track discovery during four magical days. Exploring many styles of yoga, wellness activities and workshops to spark their emotions. Being inspired by the passionate teachers, therapists and authors who give talks about how they made the necessary life changes to follow their dreams and passions. Listening to great music by Toyah Willcox, 80's icon and rock legend, and many other top-notch bands to dance along and have fun.

Where did the name “City2Sand” come from?
Most of my stressed guests seemed to always travel from the city to the beach to attend my retreats, and to see their faces of pure joy feeling the sand under their toes and smell of the sea, to me was like seeing a child at the beach for the first time. Being so used to living by the sea, it is easy to forget what it must be like to live in the dirty, dusty city, surrounded by the stressful sounds of the traffic and living a busy life. This fact resonated very strongly with me.
What makes City2Sand 2017 different to other festivals?
Unlike most festivals, at City2Sand there isn’t a tent in sight anywhere. When I began asking past guests about their festival experiences, they all said how much they enjoyed the music. And while the idea lovingly lingered in their minds, so did the memories of dirty toilets, mud, rain and one or two thieves that made it mandatory to always keep an eye on their goods.
They were glad to have had the experience when they were young, but never to be repeated if it involves camping. I asked if a yoga and music festival located in a luxury accommodation, yet keeping all the fun, would be something they’d consider. The answer was a big yes! Apart from this comforts, there was ease of travel, a short flight distance anywhere from Europe and safe destination airports.
What can I expect from the festival?
The choice is yours. You plan ahead your typical day from the City2Sand schedule, which may consist of a yoga class (choose from different styles and teachers), several workshops, a talk or a culinary class. There are lots to be discovered and learned on each day and it’s up to you how many activities you take part of.
Or maybe you are simply looking to relax and unwind with some physical activities, even a Zumba class to rejuvenate. Mingling with other guests who may have similar thoughts and ambitions as you may spark some interesting ideas. There is plenty of time to visit the beach for a swim or to sunbathe. Enjoy some music evening concerts and meet all the teachers, who will be more than happy to share their ideas and experiences with you.
What can you tell us about the hotel where the festival takes place?
The AR Diamante Beach 4* Spa Hotel in Calpe Costa Blanca, Spain, is an award-winning Condé Nast hotel. Perfectly located just 40 minutes from the busy Alicante airport, it has regular airport transfers. It is also a short stroll away from the sandy beach. Calpe is renowned for its sandy beaches, sunshine and warm climes.
The conference rooms have been especially designed with much thought to cater for all public events. With its sister hotels in the group nearby, City2Sand can easily accommodate all guests to suit different budgets. Self-catering is also offered for those wishing to explore the area and Spanish cuisine. The main ballroom is equipped with state of the art stage, lighting and sound system for major events such as live music and there’s also an outside stage for the yoga glow party on Sunday night.
I am new to yoga; will the festival be suitable for me?
We positively welcome all newcomers to yoga at the festival. Indeed, this is the best way to start with the practice or experiment and try new styles of yoga. You will surely receive a warm welcome and will find plenty of styles to choose from!
How will the City2Sand help me unwind and de-stress?
From the moment you arrive at the AR Diamante Beach Spa Hotel the atmosphere is very relaxing; as you view the spa below from glass domes on the floor, you will begin to embrace relaxation. You can also book an optional pamper massage or a spa during your stay. And of course, there will be plenty of soothing yoga and meditation classes.
There are live music concerts in the evenings along with dancing, which I think is a great way to unwind and help you get a great night’s sleep.
Does the hotel cater to my special dietary needs?
Absolutely. The hotel offers a wonderful daily selection of an all-you-can-eat buffet that includes dishes for vegetarian and vegan diets. If you have a special need, please ask the hotel staff, who will be more than happy to look after you on a daily basis with their fantastic chefs. No worries there!
Can I arrive early or stay later after the festival?
Yes. If there’s room available, you can request extra accommodation. Consult the prices with City2Sand for early or late checkout. Just be aware that some carriers such as Ryanair do not fly on Thursdays from Ireland, but they do fly to Alicante on Friday mornings.
