There are many reasons why visiting Greece should be on any yogi’s bucket list.

Greece features some of the most beautiful landscapes on Earth; 80% of its territory is covered with mountains and breathtaking landscapes, it boasts the longest coastline in Europe, with 16,000 km (10,000 mi) of turquoise waters and sandy beaches, and it is best-known for its hundreds of incredible islands dotting the Mediterranean, Aegean, and Ionian Seas. And as if it was not enough, Greece is blessed with over 260 days of sunshine per year.

Greek cuisine is among the healthiest in the world; some of its main ingredients are fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seafood, which makes it rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber – simply ideal to adopt a healthy diet that doesn’t sacrifice flavor.

Moreover, Greece offers fun activities to complement your yoga experience. Being the birthplace of the Olympic Games, there are plenty of sports and outdoor activities to try such as surfing or hiking. Plus, it is home to 18 UNESCO World Heritage Sites and many archaeological museums to visit, all of which make a yoga holiday in Greece the adventure of a lifetime.

Want a few suggestions on where to go? Here are some top yoga retreats for an unforgettable experience.

Best time to visit

Greece has 227 islands, making summer the best season to visit. However, keep in mind that it gets quite crowded, and the average maximum temperature is 31/32 °C (88/90 °F). Therefore, many consider spring (April to June) and early fall (September and October) great alternatives because the weather is still pleasant and the islands are less crowded.

That said, you can basically choose any time of the year for your yoga retreat in Greece knowing that you’ll have a blast. That’s why it is one of the best yoga destinations in the world!
