“How far away is it?” and “How am I going to get there?” are normally two of the most crucial factors we consider when deciding where to go on a yoga retreat. And more often than not, with so many beautiful destinations all over the world, the answers to these questions are: “quite far” and “by airplane.”

That’s when we start looking for flight tickets only to realize that the cost of the yoga holiday can almost be the same – or even higher – as the cost of the flight itself. But fret not! To try help you save as much as possible on transportation, so distance doesn’t limit your options, at BookYogaRetreats.com we’ve done some research to find out which airports are the most affordable amongst the top yoga destinations.

These are the 5 cheapest airports for yoga travel in 3 popular regions for yoga retreats:

North America

  • Long Beach Airport (LGB). California, USA.

Long Beach Airport is located just 25 minutes south of the busiest airport in the region, Los Angeles International. According to the 2016 Airport Affordability Report, the average airfare for Long Beach was $202, which ranks as the lowest in the USA. So, if you’re planning a yoga getaway in Southern California, you may want to consider this option to fly into.

  • Cancun International Airport (CUN). Cancun, Mexico.

Cancun is well regarded as one of the top touristic places in the world, especially for spring breakers, party animals and all-inclusive resorts enthusiasts. But there is much more in Southern Mexico than this concurred city; there are several archeological ruins, virgin beaches, heavenly islands and nice little towns that host many yoga retreats.

The great news is that Cancun International Airport is the most affordable airport in the country. With direct flights all over North America, the Caribbean and Europe, at the lowest fare, this is the perfect landing spot to travel around the area.

Southeast Asia

  • Don Mueang International Airport (DMK). Bangkok, Thailand

Suvarnabhumi Airport opened in 2006 and has since become one of the busiest airports in the world. The tourism in Thailand is rapidly growing year after year, which makes it a good hub for trips to Asia in general. However, the cheapest flights actually go through the older Don Mueang International Airport, so make sure you include it on your search before booking. And don’t forget to check our insider’s guide to travel in Thailand like a yogi before landing.

  • Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS). Bali, Indonesia

Bali may just be the most coveted place in the world for yoga travel. While it is not as affordable as the rest of Indonesia, Ngurah Rai International is among the airports with the lowest airfares in Asia.

And if you’re planning a trip to Southeast Asia, but for some reason, you haven’t included Bali on your list, please do so! Not only is it an amazingly beautiful place with a great Zen atmosphere, but it is also very cheap to fly into from most cities in Asia.

Europe

  • Barcelona–El Prat Airport (BCN). Barcelona, Spain.

If you’re attending a yoga retreat in Europe, there is a strong possibility you are going to Spain since it is by far the most popular destination in the old continent. Luckily, one of the most affordable cities to fly into Europe is Barcelona. It is smaller than Madrid-Barajas airport, but in 2016 the average airfare was considerably lower than Spain’s capital according to Price of Travel. With an index average of $904 flying from the most popular airports in North America, it was the 8th cheapest airport, just below the main ones in Scandinavia. Which leads to our final suggestion…

If you really want to save as much as possible, Copenhagen Airport (CPH) has incredibly affordable flights from the USA and Canada. Denmark may not be a very popular yoga destination, but the flights within Europe are generally cheap. So you can just book another flight from Copenhagen to Spain, Italy or wherever your yoga retreat is held.
