The retreat is focussed on weight loss because if you’re carrying many extra pounds, you face a higher-than-average risk of a whopping 50 different health problems! You will have daily yoga, meditation, ayurvedic treatments and medicine to aid weight loss. You will also get healthy fresh nutritious food which is delicious and filling but still will help you shed the pounds! Additionally, you will receive three fitness classes per week with our world class fitness instructor who will help you workout in a fun way! We will also teach you techniques to follow to practice at home to continue your weight loss even after you leave us. The Plantation Villa is a place where life in nature, fresh air, nutrition, and herbal medicines combined with mindfulness techniques of yoga and meditation with personalized service, Plantation Villa offers a haven for guests to relax in and focus on their well-being. The Retreat Centre enjoys fabulous guest reviews and is focused on offering a personalized service to all who stay with us.
As an eco-friendly Retreat Centre, we work tirelessly for the sustainment of our environment and the village people. The centre employs local staff and funds numerous village community establishments such as the village temples and schools. The Centre Supports its own charity, The Metta Trust and guests get an opportunity to join in the charity activities.
The villa is a colonial home, approximately 150 years old. It was the house of the village chief - and it now converted to consists of a living room, dinning hall, veranda and open living area all renovated in end 2015/2016.
The property consists of the main Villa and the Lodge, each about 2 minutes walking distance from each other. The Lodge is the original house of the first occupier of this colonial treasure. With time, their son built a bigger home to house his expanding family. This is the Villa.
The Villa consists of 8 rooms (2 Suite Rooms and 6 Deluxe Rooms) and the Dining Hall, Lounge, Verandahs and Spa. The Lodge consists of 6 Standard rooms and an open Verandah. Both the Villa and the Lodge were renovated in end 2015/2016 and is decorated to contemporary colonial style in keeping with the age of the property and to meet our guest comforts and modern needs. Rooms are beautifully completed with luxury bathrooms.
Each guest has an initial consultation on their first day. This consultation gathers a holistic understanding of our guest covering physical ailments, areas for stress for the mind, lifestyle, and wellness objectives or requirements.

Ishara is the founder and owner of Plantation Villa. She is a regular meditation practitioner whose practice has changed her life. She has practiced and studied Buddhism and meditation over the last eight years. With an inspiring life story, Ishara helps explore the world of meditation through an explanation of the mind, its nature and habits, to overcome obstacles and allow the inherent sense of fulfilment that we all have to shine forth.
Dr. Nishan Jayasundara is the in-house Cancer Specialist. He completed a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (BAMS) at the University of Colombo and Institute of Indigenous Medicine and completed his internship at the National Ayurveda Teaching Hospital. He also obtained special training in Sri Lankan traditional medicine from one of the most renowned indigenous medicine gurus in the country. He represents Sri Lanka at international cancer research conferences such as the WIN (Worldwide Innovative Network in Developing Precision Cancer Medicine) Symposium and World Cancer Congress.
Bernardo has been teaching and studying yoga for over a decade. He has been in contact with different teachers and schools, from western and Indian traditional approaches. For the last years, his studies were more in line with the Krishnamacharya tradition, with a focus on the usage of yoga techniques as a therapy tool to restore the wellbeing of the human system. He is a certified Hatha yoga teacher, Vedic healing chants teacher from the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram - India, has studied yoga with the Mohan family from the Krishnamacharya tradition. He is also a certified Ayurveda therapist.
Dr. Erandi Gunathilaka is the Chief Ayurvedic Physician. She holds a Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery (BAMS) at the University of Colombo, Institute of Indigenous Medicine and completed her internship at the National Ayurveda Teaching Hospital. Erandi specializes in General Practice, Gynecology, Sub-Fertility (both male and female) and Menopause. She is also qualified in Psychological Counselling focusing on Ayurvedic Diet & Nutrition, Fertility Concerns, Stress, and Anxiety. She also works closely with Dr. Nishan on his research work about treating cancer with Ayurveda.
Dr. Ruwanka graduated from University of Colombo, Institute of Indigenous Medicine, securing a first-class in Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine & Surgery. Due to his outstanding academic performance, he was hired by the university to work as a demonstrator. During his late university years as a student, he developed an interest in a field where other Ayurveda practitioners rarely focus on - surgery! He specializes in treating anorectal diseases such as fistla-in-ano, hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and also fluent in Leech Therapy to treat several conditions: varicose veins, glaucoma, etc.
Sarath Vaidya is an indigenous medical practitioner, representing the 21st generation of doctors in the lineage of KottayawaththaVeda tradition. The lineage has a rich history of Vaidyas who have served the kings in Sri Lanka. He studied indigenous medicine for 18 years under his uncle, Vaidya Acharya RanhamiRanbanda (1928-2015), one of the most renowned physicians and a guru that lived in Sri Lanka. Firmly rooted in traditional values and high moral conduct, his approach to treating patients, preparing medicine and using them in healing is comprising of ancient rituals (methodologies).
Dr. Chathurika Harischandra graduated as a Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine and Surgery from the Institute of Indigenous Medicine, University of Colombo. During her internship, she worked in two hospitals: the National Ayurveda Teaching Hospital in Colombo and the District Ayurveda Hospital in Beliatta, followed by her research module at Bandaranayaka Memorial Ayurveda Research Institute in Nawinna. Dr. Chathurika studied "Gedi-vana-pilika", one of the branches of Sri Lankan Indigenous Medicine that deals with the treatment of Ulcers and Tumors under the apprenticeship of Vaidyacharya Premasiri.
Poorna has 14 years of experience as a physical training instructor, weightlifting coach, rugby fitness trainer and personal trainer. He has studied advanced weight training technics, physical training, bio mechanism of weightlifting, sports injury rehabilitation, flexibility, and sports psychology. He is a 5 times National Weightlifting Champion and Record Holder, a black belt holder in ‘Shotokan Karate’ and is an executive member of the Sri Lanka National Olympic Committee. He is also a referee at the World Championship, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games.
The property is located in a small village called Nehinna, 80 km away from the capital city Colombo. The village is rural and has a traditional community feel. The retreat centre property itself is a 30 acre plantation of rubber, coconut, cinnamon, and black pepper. The villa is surrounded by nature and is a habitat for rare local and migrant birds, butterflies, and a plethora of tropical flora and fauna. We have an open yoga sala where yoga and meditation classes and buddhist poojas take place. We specialize in Ayurveda which is an ancient art of healing the body and mind through nutrition, relaxation, and herbal treatments.
Plantation Villa follows a farm to plate policy where majority of the food served come from their own organic gardens. Your food will be prepared according to ayurvedic principles and you will be taught how to cook your favourite dishes to ensure you can continue to eat healthy when you go home! Food is delicious - you will not feel like you are on a weight loss plan!

Sinharajah Natural Rain Forest - the last remaining rain forest in Sri Lanka which is lush and green and hike through this will be an amazing experience.
Whale & Dolphin Watching in Mirissa - We work with a company working with whale conservation in Sri Lanka. It is an early morning start but totally worth the experience.
Udawalawe National Park (to see Elephants) - we recommend this trip over the trip to Pinnawella Elephant Orphanage, where we have heard mixed reviews about how the animals are treated. This is an opportunity to see elephants in their own natural habitat. Holding the largest population of elephants in sri Lanka, you are almost guaranteed to see elephants here.
Kandy Town and Temple of the Tooth - The last kingdom of Sri Lanka still rich in art and culture. Kandy also has the Temple of the Tooth where Buddhas tooth is kept and is one of the most venerated sights in Sri Lanka. Apart from its religious significance, it is also a must see sight to understand the richness of Sri Lankan art and culture.
Local turtle hatchery: a turtle conservation project to help save turtles from extinction. You can see and learn about turtles and can have the opportunity to release baby turtles to the sea!
Beach: Picnic at some of Sri Lanka's most beautiful beaches
Kalutara Bhodiya: One of the most famous temples in Sri Lanka with a Pagoda with architectural value and a Bo Tree over 2000yrs old
Galle: A visit to one of the most vibrant cities in Sri Lanka where the influences of colonial time is prevalent with some world heritage sites
WarakagodaTemple: An ancient cave temple with a natural forest displaying some amazing Sri Lankan art on the rock

All Spa treatments administered (a minimum of four treatments per day) are designed for weight loss. These will be planed by the doctor following the guest consultation with the resident Ayurvedic Doctor. If you would prefer additional treatments, please discuss with the doctor. Weightloss related treatments are: Abhyanga Massage Therapy, Intensive Massage Therapy, Udwarthana, Steam Bath etc.

Plantation Villa is about a 1.5-hour drive from the Colombo Airport. The hotel car is available for transfers at the rate of 65 USD for pick up. Plantation Villa suggests you arrive between 7 p.m to 7 a.m to use the airport transfer services. Alternatively one can come by train to Kalutara.
