Prerequisites

This 200-hour yoga teacher training is suitable for people of all levels. Sri Yoga Ashram starts from the beginner level and carries you towards more serious practices. But some level of fitness is useful. Start walking every day. Maybe, some easy exercises and stretching will prepare you well. It is highly recommended that you practice yoga regularly before attending this training. Ideally, you should practice Ashtanga Yoga or another vigorous form of Vinyasa Yoga at least three times a week to prepare your body for the training.

The better in shape you are before the training, the more you will get out of it and advance in your practice. In the yoga school, you will be eating pure vegetarian food only. So, starting with the same few weeks earlier will make you ready for that. Reading some preparatory books will give you a good perspective on yoga. You can start with the following titles:

  • Ligh on Yoga Sutra by BKS Iyengar
  • Hatha Yoga Pradipika
  • Walking with a Joystick by Dr Gaurav Agrawal

About the training

Kundalini yoga, believed to have originated from Lord Shiva, the 'Aadi Yogi' or the first yogi, is a profound spiritual practice with roots in ancient Tantra and Hatha yoga. This tradition was initially passed down from Lord Shiva to Matsyendra Nath, then to Guru Gorakhnath, and later evolved within the 'Natha Sampraday,' a sect dedicated to yoga and tantra practices. Kundalini, symbolized as a coiled snake, represents the dormant spiritual energy within each individual. The practice of Kundalini yoga aims to awaken this energy, leading to transformative and miraculous experiences.

  • Kundalini yoga originates from Lord Shiva, the 'Aadi Yogi,' and was further developed by Matsyendra Nath and Guru Gorakhnath
  • This practice is deeply rooted in the ancient teachings of Tantra and Hatha yoga
  • The symbol of Kundalini as a coiled snake signifies the hidden spiritual energy within, which can lead to profound transformations when awakened
  • To become a Kundalini yoga teacher or to deepen your practice, completing a 200-hour Kundalini yoga teacher training course is essential
  • The course will equip you with the knowledge and skills to effectively teach and practice Kundalini yoga, facilitating both personal and spiritual growth
  • This training will enable you to unlock the transformative potential of Kundalini Yoga, guiding you and others on a profound spiritual journey

The practice of Kundalini yoga includes the advanced techniques of Pranayama, Kriyas, Mudras, and Bandhas. Sri Yoga Ashram also uses asana practices as part of Kundalini yoga, but here the emphasis does not lie on alignment. Rather, the emphasis is placed on moving the ‘Prana’ energy through the right channels called ‘Nadis’. This is done by practicing forceful breathing exercises with some serious Kriyas (inner techniques). Later, students are advised to integrate the advanced Mudras and Bandhas simultaneously.

This way, the practice becomes increasingly rigorous, and the focus becomes more intense. The subject starts going beyond the body dimensions (Annamaya Kosha) and enters the dimension of energy (Pranamaya Kosha). This intensive Kundalini teacher training at Sri Yoga Ashram in Rishikesh offers a great opportunity to build a deeper sense of well-being that promotes physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual self-healing for all levels of practitioners.
