Château de Montcuquet
Welcome to Château de Montcuquet. Château de Montcuquet is a privately owned medieval château dating back to the 13th–14th century, carefully restored and used as a dedicated yoga retreat and teacher training venue. It welcomes yoga students and guests by reservation. The château is set on a hill just outside the medieval village of Lautrec, one of the most beautiful villages in France.
There is a very, very old folk story that talks about a utopian paradise called Pays de Cocagne. It is a mythical place of plenty and ease - a stark contrast to the actual medieval reality. It is marked to be an area triangulated by the towns of Albi, Carcassonne, and Toulouse - the Triangle of Gold.
Within the triangle sits the village of Lautrec. On a hill with a view of the village, stands the castle with its three towers, three flowers, three wings, three wells, a courtyard, a dungeon, a small manicured garden at the entrance, and woods at the back.
The tree-lined driveway has a dovecote with the date 1662 registered on its arches. The castle itself dates back to the 1300s as old archives indicate. The rooms have been converted into yoga halls, meditation rooms, living spaces, relaxation places, and of course, lodging for yoga students and guests.
Rooms
The school, Awake Space, accepts a maximum of 15 students per training. The castle sleeps nine at the moment of the soft opening.
Students are welcome to find their accommodation in town (there are several sites available to camp onsite). There is no sharing of space in rooms. You will get the full countryside experience.
There is one single room (shared bath) and four twin rooms available (shared bath). The single rooms and double rooms are a generous size. The decoration is a twist of eclectic, castle, and chic, featuring art from local artists.
Program
200-hour Hybrid Yoga Teacher Training at Awake Space Château de Montcuquet
This is more than a training. It is a calling. A return to yourself.
At Awake Space, a small, intimate group of students is welcomed into a transformative 200-hour hybrid Yoga Teacher Training, held exclusively at Château de Montcuquet. The program is registered with Yoga Alliance and is delivered in two phases:
- An online self-paced component (approx. 120 hours), completed prior to arrival, covering philosophy, anatomy, teaching methodology, and foundational principles. There are no live online sessions.
- An in-person residential training (approx. 100 hours) at the Château de Montcuquet, where practice becomes embodied and teaching is developed in an immersive group setting.
Upon successful completion of both components and practical assessments, participants receive a 200-hour certification and become eligible to register as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT®) with Yoga Alliance.
Curriculum Highlights
This journey is rich, multidimensional, and rooted in both tradition and science.
- History and Philosophy of Yoga: the ancient roots of yoga and spirituality, explored through original teachings and their evolution into modern times.
- Teaching Methodology: learning how to skillfully design, structure, and guide meaningful classes with clarity and confidence.
- Anatomy & Physiology: understanding how yoga influences the nervous, muscular, and skeletal systems.
- Biomechanics: honoring the uniqueness of every body, adapting safely and intelligently.
- Asana Analysis: detailed breakdown of postures, alignment, modifications, and progressions.
- Pranayama: the subtle art of breath and life-force cultivation.
- Meditation Techniques: classical and modern practices for inner stillness and awakening.
- Practicum: guided teaching practice designed to help each student find an authentic voice.
Examinations & Integration
Growth requires embodiment. During the in-person immersion, four heart-centered practical evaluations are completed:
- Teaching and demonstrating the Hatha Sun Salutation
- Teaching and demonstrating the Vinyasa Sun Salutation
- Leading a 30-minute pranayama and meditation class
- Leading a full 1-hour yoga class
These are not rigid tests, but empowering thresholds - moments to step into confidence and share from lived experience.
Who’s It For?
- Future yoga teachers eager to share yoga with friends, family, or the world.
- Wellness, fitness, or therapy professionals wanting to add yoga’s magic to their toolkit.
- Lifelong learners longing to deepen their practice with ancient wisdom, modern science, and spiritual exploration.

The ROSS Method: A Unique Approach from Decades of Experience
For over a decade, Awake Space has trained yoga teachers through the ROSS Method - a spiritual practice weaving together hatha, vinyasa, ashtanga, and kundalini.
This method goes beyond postures. It awakens energy through relaxation techniques, mantra, breathwork, and meditation in pure Presence. Respect for ancient tradition merges with modern anatomy and biomechanics, shaping grounded, multidimensional teachers.
Yoga: So Much More Than Postures
“Om gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhisvaha” - Go beyond, ever beyond, into awakening.
Yoga is not performance. It is not acrobatics. It is a sacred remembering. Asana moves energy, opens subtle channels, and releases emotional and mental tension. Pranayama steadies the currents of life-force.
As Patanjali teaches: “Yoga is the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind". Through practice, nothing new is added - there is simply a return to what has always been.
Meditation: Raja Yoga, the King of Practices
Meditation is the crown jewel. The body, the breath, and the thoughts are observed - and gradually a realisation emerges: there is a body, but identity is not limited to the body. Thoughts arise, but identity is not the thoughts.
Layer by layer, identity softens. What remains is Presence. Freedom. The quiet radiance of true nature.
VortexHealing®: A Touch of Magic
Sunshine, a VortexHealing® practitioner (Jewel Level), brings subtle energetic support into the retreat experience.
- Physical body – strengthening and balancing
- Emotional body – releasing stored weight
- Mental body – clearing and calming
- Energetic body – revitalizing life-force
- Etheric, karmic, astral, spiritual layers – deep energetic cleansing
This work gently supports grounding, chakra harmonization, and energetic alignment. (It is complementary and not a substitute for medical care.)
Shamanism and Sound Therapy
To nourish personal and spiritual evolution, the program also includes:
- Shamanic Journeying: guided inner exploration rooted in earth wisdom
- Sound Therapy: immersive sound baths for body, mind, and soul
