To support your learning, ULU Yoga provides you with complimentary readings and multiple-choice quizzes to test your knowledge and understanding of the topics covered.
As a special bonus, you will receive one free month of ULU Yoga’s daily live classes via Zoom. Classes are a mix of Q&A and physical practice covering all subjects from the 200 and 300-hour yoga teacher training: anatomy, philosophy, Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, and teaching methodology. There are two classes a day, and times vary week by week.
Learn how the shoulder works, as a joint, the muscles involved, and the most common tensions and strains that occur in this area. You will also practice a few asanas that will help relieve shoulder tension, learn how to engage the shoulder in order to protect it and what are ways you can strengthen the shoulder and align it to avoid any future injuries in your practice and your student's practice.
Learn the fundamental functioning of the hips and the complexity of their available movements. You will discuss why you are feeling limitations in your hip mobility, how you can relieve those limitations, and what you are doing exactly when you are “opening up the hips”. You will also practice some asana that will give you a greater range of motion in the hips and prepare the hips for more complicated movements.
One of the most common areas of injury is the lower back. In this section, you will discuss why and how you can begin to relieve lower back pain by avoiding certain movements and adding certain movements into your practice. You will also look at the spine and its function in the body. By practicing certain asanas, you strengthen the areas around the spine to protect, while also learning how to move with your spine to gain healthy mobility on the spinal chain.
Often you forget about the smaller joints in the body and this leads to their desecration. In order to understand why you are feeling pain in your knees, wrists, ankles, or elbows, you have to understand their function and how they move. By using different examples of asana that may put pressure on these joints, you take an in-depth look at how simple modifications can create a safer way of moving throughout your entire practice and how this can provide longevity to these small joints.
Learn about how your feet' position determines the bow of your legs, which creates the fundamental foundation of all your standing postures. You will define what is healthy and what damaging foot positions and what to look out for whenever you are setting up a standing pose for yourself or your student.
Often overlooked in physical anatomy, the nervous system plays a huge role in how the body moves. Learning about the different characteristics of the nervous system and what the nervous system experiences through single yoga practice can help you understand the ways in which you use the nervous system to create more energy, create more flow, and allow you to relax more in your practice. The class will also speak about how to avoid “yoga burnout” and what you can do to create longevity in your practice.
Fascia has become one of the most interesting topics of discussion in the world of anatomy, and for good reason. It is mysterious, intelligent, and seemingly links everything in your body together. In this section, the class will talk about what you know so far about fascia, its physical properties, how you think it functions, and its connection to deeper physical issues and mental and emotional strain. The class will also speak about how you can work with fascia in creating optimal movement throughout the body.
You will finish off with a summary of what functionality in yoga anatomy actually is, how to incorporate new practices into daily yoga sessions and classes, the benefits of these new additions, and through mindfulness and awareness, you can practice yoga asana without fear of injury and with a knowing that you benefiting your movements both on and off the mat.
