Sunny Brow Farm’s retreat accommodations are beautifully renovated barn conversions. Four barns have been renovated into self-contained barn cottages. Two cottages take up the upper and lower parts of a Lakeland bank barn, and two are smaller and separate.

All barns have bedroom/s, bathroom/s, a living space, a kitchen, and a dining area. The barns have been lovingly renovated to allow modern fittings and style to sit alongside the old features and optional log burners. Characterful yet with modern comfort, the barn accommodation will fulfill all your needs. They are all equipped with good Wi-Fi.

The yoga studio and massage rooms are nestled within the area of the barn conversions, and the studio overlooks woodlands and sheep pastures.

Itinerary of barns

  • The Old Dairy: A ground-floor barn cottage with two private bedrooms - one double and one single - which share a bathroom and living space; this barn is also where retreat guests eat communally on a large oak table
  • Sunny Brow Barn: One bedroom that can be twin or double ensuite, with private living space
  • The Hayloft: An upper-floor barn cottage in a large renovated hay barn; two twin or double ensuite bedrooms that share a large open-plan living space
  • Bracken Barn: One bedroom that can be twin or double ensuite, with private living space

Program

Suzy-Anne and Natalie draw on their Earth-rooted spiritual practices to co-create dynamic spaces where we can all explore what it means to be incarnate on the Earth here and now. Expect ritual, sacred ceremony, cacao, breathwork, transpersonal & yin yoga, movement, connection practices in nature, drumming & sound, healing herbal teas & elixirs, crystal healing, journeying, and ritual massage.

This retreat is for you if you are interested in exploring and experiencing new ways of becoming present through your connection with the natural world or if you are curious about developing your spirituality through the mysteries of creation. Our practices will include spaces for you to develop and deepen your relationship with your guides & guiding energies. At the heart of these retreats, is the process of our embodiment – so expect deep healing and emotional release.

The beautiful January retreat sits in-between Epiphany and Imbolc, two very significant times of year. The energy of the light returning and the spark of life in nature are significant for the retreat. A perfect time to come into quiet space within in conscious community, to seed new intentions and allow the time of year to support your own awakening.

The Autumn retreat sits near the Equinox within the cycle of Harvest Moon an abundant time of year to be with the gifts of Mother Earth and gather your own harvests. Equinox marks the point where light and darkness are in close balance which opens a gateway into closer relationship with peace. This time of year brings a grounding energy after the vibrancy of summer to allow you to  a come home to yourself and to the sacredness of the Earth.

Sunny Brow Farm itself is nestled in the dale near Black Fell, with streams, sheep pasture land, and woodland directly on the doorstep. Being in such proximity to nature is such a gift for a quiet and natural stay.

The nearest village is Hawkshead (a 5-minute drive), and the closest small town is Ambleside (a 10-minute drive).

Food

Sunny Brow Farm's food ethos is to nourish our bodies with natural, elegant, and really tasty plant-based cuisine. A love of seasonal, organic, home-grown, and wild foods from nature’s garden influences the menus. Using inspiration from these elements, they consciously plan and prepare the menus for the retreats. The menus are always seasonal to allow for a deeper connection to nature’s gifts at each time of year.

Sunny Brow Farm's approach is rooted in macrobiotic principles, emphasising gut health through healthy plant-based foods, whole grains, and optimum preparation methods like fermentation. They prioritise a rich variety of vegetables, and predominantly unprocessed, plant-based ingredients. They maintain a fully gluten-free and refined sugar-free menu. While their focus is primarily on plant-based foods, they occasionally incorporate natural organic yoghurt and farm-fresh eggs. They pride themselves on catering for all food intolerances at no extra cost to the guest.

On retreat, everyone enjoys meal times around a large oak table in their Old Dairy barn, a social space to enjoy like-minded fellow retreat guests, and the gifts of foods cooked, prepared, and served with love. They serve two large eclectic meals each day; plus, lighter breakfast and afternoon tea snacks are also available.
