"Relax and recharge "

I had a great week at Shamballah, which allowed me to unwind and recharge. And improve my yoga! The house is beautiful, the yoga was excellent and the food (all vegetarian) was absolutely delicious. I was travelling solo from Ireland and felt fortunate to meet such a lovely bunch of people on the retreat (just 7 guests in total during my stay). It’s also in a beautiful part of Portugal, and there are lots of day trips and activities to do if you are so inclined. Uber operates locally so that’s a very quick and affordable way of getting around. The coastline (about a 15 min walk) is gorgeous. This was my first yoga retreat and I will definitely do more. I would highly recommend Shamballah.

"Awesome and relaxing retreat experience"

Patricia and Zarqa's kindness and attentiveness, the location, and the daily schedule were all wonderful. They put a lot of thought and care into the retreat and the physical space and it really showed. It's a nice intimate group size which allows you to get to know others and build community.

"A wonderful experience for mind and body."

Zarqa and Patricia really make this retreat special because they are so warm and giving and they put so much into making this the best possible experience for you. The location is wonderful, close to the sea and countryside where you can take beautiful and interesting walks. Sintra is a fabulous destination for days out and with a packed lunch lovingly prepared by Mia, you could not wish for more! I thoroughly recommend it!

The yoga classes with Patricia were really enjoyable. She focused on a different chakra in each class and introduced the use of essential oils in the class, making it interesting and feel like a holistic experience. She didn't correct people's postures so it's not necessarily the sort of class you'd want as a beginner to make sure you're learning the postures correctly, or if you're more experienced and looking to improve. However the classes are thoroughly enjoyable and will inspire a love for yoga for you to return home with. Patricia's yoga classes were undoubtedly the defining feature of the stay and are what made the week enjoyable and worthwhile.

Patricia and Zarqa left part way through the retreat to travel to a retreat elsewhere (unfortunately we didn't find this out till we were already there). Luckily the replacement yoga teacher was absolutely fantastic. He provided a lot of individual attention to each person, giving a lot of guidance and correction which really helped in developing our practice. I could really feel the difference, both during the class and in my body afterwards. He was warm and calm in his manner. The replacement meditation teacher was also incredibly lovely and led a really interesting and powerful session.

The food was really lovely. The accommodation was comfortable and clean. Unfortunately the hot tub isn't functioning (I don't know if it ever had been) so it was disappointing that this was advertised. Otherwise it was lovely accommodation.

" A better home away from home"

Zarqa and Patricia are some of the kindest, most knowledgeable, loving and accepting people I have ever met. They accepted me into their home with open arms, and I didn’t want to leave when it was time to go.

"A week of water"

Patricia and Zarqa are very friendly and warm people. The place and surroundings are very quiet, and there is little distraction which is ideal for a retreat. Nature and proximity to the coast for hikes/beach is perfect. I enjoyed the holistic learning and interaction of yoga, meditation, and nutrition. The food was absolutely fantastic! The rooms, beds, facilities were neat and comfortable. The location was lovely: quiet, close to the beach (which is an amazing sunset spot), cute village. "A wonderful week!"

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Shamballah Yoga Retreats!

The house is beautiful and Zarqa and Patricia welcomed me so warmly. I enjoyed the Yoga and meditation everyday and the food was lovely.

In under 10 mins you can walk to the cliff edge to get wonderful views of the ocean and breathe in the fresh sea air. You can also get to Sintra and Lisbon easily if you want to explore. I had a fantastic week. Thank you 🙏

"Wonderful in beautiful Sintra!"

Shamballah Retreats was such a wonderful surprise. Patricia and Zarqa really make this place special, you can feel the love and care that they feel for each of their guests. From day one they make you feel right at home, and guide you through the week's activities with a thorough knowledge of their craft. We also had some surprise inclusions of Voice Therapy and Sound Healing, both of which were well worth the extra cost!

"A great and holistic experience and amazing nature "

I had a great experience with Shamaballah retreat! The whole retreat feels very well thinken through with a holistic thinking for personal healing and with great consideration of details.

I seems like the instructors are very passionate about what they do and put love into what they do. It is a very warm and welcoming couple and they were always making sure that I had a great stay. They were very generous with their time and sharing their knowledge and experiences.

The food was delicious and healthy, containing a lot of vegetables and fruits. The house is modern, spacious, clean and with great light. The surroundings are amazing. Quiet and green, with beautiful mountains and beaches along the coastline.

If you enjoy spending time in nature there is a ten minutes walk to the closest beach and the environment is ideal for walks and hiking.

The yoga and meditation sessions seems to be very good adapted to the occasion and the groups. They pay attention to all individuals in the group.

The retreat inspired me to bring back a regular practise of meditation and yoga in my everyday life. It inspired me to further explore the practise of detox, and the use of essential oils for healing. The daily sessions of yoga and meditation in combination with spending time in nature also got me more balanced, relaxed and helped me a lot on a personal level. Thank you!

"It can't be bought for the money "

Thanks a lot for Patricia and Zarqa for such wonderful holidays! I'm just the beginner in yoga and these meditation course was my first, but masters were very patient and helpful to guide me. I felt being at home at their lovely house.

As for vegetarian food, it was awesome and it was a lot! I wasn't hungry at all! Nearby (10 mins walking) there is peaceful sandy beach and picturesque cliffs where I enjoyed listening to the ocean sound.

Telling the truth, I think the price is really cheap for the above conditions. But atmosphere can't be bought for any money. Choosing this yoga retreat you will get not only the great yoga vacation and body detoxing but also the amazing experience and lovely evening conversations with hosts)

"A great place for the full experience of yoga and meditation"

I loved the warm hospitality of Patricia and Zarqa, they truly make you feel at home. The location was great, aswell as the house. You get a full detox of your body and the vegetarian meals that Zarqa cooks is so good that you don't even miss the meat. "WONDERFUL yoga retreat in a beautiful area "

Patricia and Zarqa are great instructeurs and hosts. They make you feel so welcome and at home.

First moment I stepped into the house there was a calm vibe and all the stressed feelings started to drift away.

Zarqa and Patricia don't just teach yoga and meditation but really explain things and I learned a lot of valuable lessons. The lessons are adjusted at what the group and each individual needs.

During day-time there is enough time to just relax or go and explore the area.

Sintra area is beautiful. Great strolls along an amazing coast.

Nice places to go surfing and Quincho is great for kitesurfing.

The massages are also great and relaxing.

"Relaxation & activation in balance"

I loved the week in shamballah retreat. The program was a good mixture of sportive and relaxing elements. On the end of the retreat I felt totally in balance :-) Patricia and Zarqa supported everyone individually to reach out for their goals. They have a good mindset and I had some inspiring conversations with them. They teach also a lot about background and create a unique and welcoming atmosphere. The vegetarian food was awesome! There are plenty of possibilities to explore the surrounding -thanks Uber ;-) (Sintra, walk along the cliffs or through the forest,...) and the beautiful beach is a 10 Min. walk.

"Highly recommend!"

Overall the yoga retreat was a wonderful experience I’d recommend to anyone looking for inner peace and relaxation. I felt welcome from the moment I arrived and Zarqa and Patricia were unbelievably helpful and accommodating. Not having practiced as much Yoga and Meditation in advance, I felt they gave me guidance whenever needed and I could truly feel the difference in my body after the week with them. Another point I have to mention is the excellent food we got provided at the retreat - always fresh and incredibly tasty it has swayed me into following a vegetarian Diet myself.

"Perfect week"

Yoga courses were perfect and accurate for our level. Clear instructions and good pace.

Meditation just before going to bed was extremely relaxing and contributed to an even better sleep!

Clean room and bathroom, and lots of places in the house to relax (living room, terrace, garden).

And last but not least, the lunch and diner were EXCELLENT!! Breakfast was very good as well, with for instance fruits every morning and very good bread.

Very good atmosphere overall.

Regarding free time (outside yoga and meditation), there were several things to do: beautiful beach reachable by foot, walks on the cliff with breathtaking points of views, a cute village at walking distance and Sintra with its gorgeous castles and garden at 20-25min by car. There were also lots of extra activities proposed by Patricia and Zarqa: we experienced really really great massages (we had the ayurvedic one) !!!

We definitely recommand this retreat :)

"Wonderful escape to another world"

Meine Frau und ich haben eine Woche der totalen Entschleunigung mit zwei mal täglich Yoga und abendlicher Mediation erlebt.

Das Yoga war so frei gestaltet, dass sowohl fittere, als auch weniger sportliche Leute auf ihre Kosten kamen.

Patricia und Zarqa sind zwei supersympathische Menschen, die uns absolut herzlich aufgenommen haben und wir haben die Woche mit einer sehr netten Gruppe und interessanten/ lehrreichen Gesprächen verbracht.

Die tadellose Gastfreundschaft und das grandiose Essen ließen keine Wünsche offen, wir fühlten uns wie zu Gast bei Freunden und wurden exzellent versorgt.

Es gab außerdem diverse Zusatzangebote, um die Zeit zu verbringen (empfehlenswert, besonders die Klangreise mit Winga). Auch ins nahe gelegene Sintra und zu anderen Ausflugszielen kommt man per Uber ohne Probleme.

"Lovely instructors at a lovely place"

Zarqa and Patricia are warm, lovely and caring people. The food they cooked was delicious and healthy. Diversified Yoga Classes like "normal" flows, partner-work yoga to hand-massage, with a different scent and completive words every day. Peaceful meditation classes every night. Not many words are spoken during meditation classes, so you can focus on yourself and your breath, but you are not reminded regularly to do so (in case you are used to it). The house is nice and Z&P are constantly working to make it an even cozier place. A few more points: I arrived very late the first night, nevertheless I was asked if they could warm the dinner for me, again (and they did ;-)). The beach is within 15 minutes walking distance and the coast is beautiful. The lunch-packages are delicious as well.

"Amazing retreat - the real deal!!"

Patricia and Zarqa were incredible hosts. They did everything and more to help us get the most of the retreat. They are truly walking a spiritual path, which for me meant that I got so much more from the week than I could have imagined. Not only was it brilliant fun with a brilliant group of people but I went deeper into my yoga practice, returning home more flexible in body mind and spirit. I would really recommend this retreat.

"A really refreshing and inspiring week!"

It was not only a yoga-week, the food and meditation as well as the information and dialogue with Patricia and Zarqa inspired us to reflect on our eating, exercising and thinking habits. "Great "

The yoga lessons were great, I liked, that the morning was a classical yoga lesson and the afternoon classes had a different focus, so that we experienced a lot more beyond the yoga practice. For example partner exercises, massages, breathing techniques, working with essential oils... Plus they organized additional acitivites for us as a sound meditation.

Also the massages Patricia and Zarqa give are very good.

Both Patricia and Zarqa are very empathetic and give lots of tips and insights in different (spiritual) ways of working with your body and soul. Both have such a calming and positive vibration, so that I felt very comfortable in their house.

Also Zarqa is a great cook and I really liked what he cooked for dinner!

We are very satisfied with our stay at Patricia and Zarqas yoga retreat Shamballah. From the beginning to the end they took very good care for us. They always made sure that we where welcome and having a good stay so that made us feel very comfortable. Patricia who had the yoga classes was very calm, patient and observant. She always made sure that the classes where on our level. And she always observed us, so when she could see our progress she challenged us to try to go deeper or she tried to challenge us to try other more difficult poses. For us, as beginners in yoga she was good to correct us in the different poses so we learnt to do the poses correctly and we learnt how to breathe correctly through the different poses.

Zarqa served us varied, healthy and tasteful meals every day. We learnt many new ways too cook vegetables! And it tasted very delicious! When we where on sightseeing or at the beach he always made delicious lunches we could bring with us.

Zarqa was also our meditation instructor. He had a good calmness. We learnt different breathing techniques and how to not consentrate on our thoughts but to be in this moment right now. We also had one meditation at the beach so we could see the beautiful sunset.

We had also the Ayurveda massage for one hour each. The massage was very good and deep, and afterwards we felt very relaxed.

Patricia also introduced us to essentials oils that she used in the beginning of every yoga class. Each oil has different use for health issues. One of us had a cold and used the Breathe oil and after a few days the cold got much better. And also when we got sun burned we used Lavendel oil and almond oil to calm down the burned skin. And that was really helpful!

The retreat was very nice and clean. We had a double bedroom with shared bathroom with another guest. It was always very clean and fresh. The retreat was close to a beautiful beach. We could either walk beside the car road or go hiking for 30 minitues. Hiking in the landscape around the reatreat was very beautilful! One day we rented bikes so we could go to another beach where one of us had a surfing class. Patricia and Zarqa made sure that the surfe instructor took good care of me while I was surfing. We also had some days sightseeing in the beautiful gardens and palaces of Sintra. It was nice to explore the gardens of Sintra and then finish the day with afternoon yoga and meditation.

Now when we are back home in Norway and back to our daily routine at work we try to use yoga and breathing techniques we learnt to reduce stress. And we can say that this yoga retreat experience gave us some new ways to handle stress on a daily bases.

Totally we are very satisfied with our stay at Shamballah retreat and we will definitely be back! We strongly recommend Patricia and Zarqas yoga retreat for yoga, meditation, and detox.
