5 Day Algarve Escape: Yoga Retreat in Portugal
Yoga Retreat in Portugal
Time to pause... The Algarve Escape is an offering shaped by understanding. Liladhar and Debbie live in the Algarve, and over the past eight years, they've come to know how deeply this land restores and rejuvenates. Its wild nature, golden beaches, calm and kind-hearted people, and the gentle scent of herbs drifting through the air make it one of the most beautiful corners of Europe. Just a short time by the ocean, held by sun, salt, and open skies, can melt stress from the body and gently connect you back to the true essence resting within your inner world.

Casa Águas das Calmas, the home of the calm waters, is thoughtfully designed with the principles of Zen Buddhism, where the space itself gently influences your inner currents. The garden invites wandering and wondering, where stillness becomes the adventure to be discovered.
Just beyond the doorstep, rural paths lead to hidden ruins and open landscapes, waiting to be explored at your own pace. Time slows here, and in this space, you feel at home instantly. Expect simplicity, serenity, and a garden that feels like a modern-day Eden.
The villa and the rooms are intentionally simple, designed in soft whites and natural tones to calm the nervous system and invite deep rest. Nothing excessive, nothing distracting — just space, light, and quiet simplicity.
In the warmth of Algarve July, the thick walls of the Algarve traditional villa keep the rooms naturally cool, creating a soothing refuge from the summer sun and offering the conditions for truly nourishing sleep.
As night falls, the world softens. You fall asleep to the gentle chorus of frogs and crickets in the far, their rhythmic songs weaving through the silence. Above you, a sky filled with a million stars watches over the land. A place to rest deeply. A place to be held by stillness.
Program
This retreat is created as a place to land. A place where participants are not asked to improve, perform, or know anything in advance, only to arrive as they are. The program unfolds slowly and with care, welcoming anyone who feels the need to rest. No prior experience of yoga asanas or philosophy is required. Each moment is guided with simplicity, warmth, and respect, allowing participants to soften at their own pace.
As July days in the Algarve are long, warm, and spacious, the mornings await the daily yoga and pranayama breathwork class guided by Debbie. The afternoons are intentionally unstructured. This is the time to rest, to soften, and to follow one’s own pace. Participants may cool off in the natural pond, lose themselves in a book or diary, or join Debbie for a mindful knitting workshop in the shadow of the garden trees. There is space for it all. Late afternoon meets again for Debbie’s Yin yoga class before settling into the perfect Algarve warm evenings.
Evenings invite deeper relaxation. They may be spent receiving therapeutic massages from Liladhar, or wandering to the beach together to witness the Algarve’s breathtaking sunsets as the sun effortlessly melts into the ocean.
Three meals are shared each day: a light breakfast, a nourishing midday lunch, and a light evening dinner, supporting balance, digestion, and restful sleep.
This daily rhythm is simple, spacious, and deeply restorative, allowing participants to rest, reset, and return to themselves.
Daily yoga and meditation
Debbie leads two yoga and meditation sessions each day. A more active morning yoga class with pranayama breathwork awakens and centers, followed in late afternoon by a gentle, restorative Yin yoga session to dissolve and reconnect. A yoga teacher at heart for decades, Debbie has shared her practice across Holland, Bali, and Portugal. Her guidance is remembered for its nurturing, motherly voice, deeply connected to the rhythms of Mother Earth. Gentle yet precise, Debbie’s presence guides participants effortlessly into their inner landscape, creating space for quiet reflection, release, and renewal.
Culinary and therapeutic care
Liladhar began his culinary journey cooking in the temple as a monk, where he spent around 13 years mastering vegetarian cuisine. Currently living in the Algarve, he expanded his skills, creating fusion dishes using the freshest local ingredients. He is also a renowned massage therapist in both Amsterdam and the Algarve, bringing the same care and presence to the massage table as he does to the kitchen. In Liladhar’s hands, participants feel his attention and energy—whether through the vibrant flavors of his food or the deep rejuvenation of a mindful, restorative massage.

Food
Meals are three lovingly prepared vegetarian, non-alcoholic dishes each day, made from fresh, local ingredients to nourish body and soul. Fresh water and seasonal Algarve fruit juices are freely available throughout the day, inviting you to sip and stay hydrated as you move through your practice and moments of the day.
Vegetarian food is at the heart of how OHM'at lives and how they host their retreats. Since leaving Amsterdam and embracing life in the Algarve, they’ve learned to live closer to the land — growing food, eating seasonally, and choosing what feels real and nourishing. Over time, they noticed a deep change in their health, energy, and well-being, simply by returning to natural, honest food.
Drink pure spring water from the mountains of Monchique, known for its mineral richness. Fresh local fruits, garden vegetables, village olives, and cold-pressed Algarve olive oil form the foundation of the meals. Everything is seasonal, simple, and carefully chosen, from the in-house garden or from local markets where they know the people who grow the food.
For OHM'at, food is more than nourishment for the body. It’s a way of slowing down, becoming present, and reconnecting with yourselves and the world around you.
Liladhar began his culinary journey cooking in the temple as a monk, where he mastered vegetarian cuisine, and has since developed his skills further by creating fusion dishes using the freshest local Algarve ingredients.
