Yoga and Meditation Holiday in Turkey
Maggie O’Grady will be teaching another yoga and meditation holiday on the idyllic Dalyan River in Turkey. Program
There will be a total of ten yoga classes and group meditations scheduled in the morning and evening, so that you have some time off to explore this wonderful region. Classes are suitable for people of all abilities as long as they have some yoga experience. There is a full set of yoga equipment, so you can pack it lightly!
Maggie brings the Iyengar principles of connection, alignment, extension, and balance to her teaching, along with a playfulness, urging students to carry out experiments on their own bodies. She recognizes the importance of both physical and subtle practices and the inclusion of philosophical concepts. Maggie is also an independent teacher of Transcendental Meditation and has an MA in Traditions of Yoga and Meditation from the University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies. She has made 3 visits to Pune, India, to study at Iyengar HQ; is a keen philosopher; and is a practitioner of Patanjali’s system.
Included excursions
Ahmet, the Likya owner, also runs award-winning boat tours, so he will host two different boat cruises – a sunset cruise upstream to the lake and thermal springs and mud bath then to the beach for the sunset, and another along the beach and up the coast.
Instructors
Margaret O'Grady
At the beginning of each class, Maggie will read out one of the sutras from Pantanjali's Yoga Sutras and read BKS Iyengar's commentary. She may interweave stories from the two major Sanskrit epics of ancient India, the Mahābhārata and the Rāmāyaṇa and will also include lessons from Ayurveda, yoga's sister science. All students, beginners and seasoned students alike, will learn some of the Sanskrit names for the postures and some of the more subtle aspects of yoga such as the chakras. Maggie will also lead an ecstatic dance session and a philosophical discussion on Karma.
