We've just returned from a lovely Spa break at Ockenden Manor to celebrate my wife's birthday. The hotel, spa and restaurant are all fantastic. We especially liked the juxtaposition between the Elizabethan Manor House which serves as the hotel and the modern zinc, copper and glass spa which overlooks the Sussex countryside. We especially enjoyed sitting in the outdoor hot-tub in the rain! If we had one minor complaint it would be that the Spa/pool area could have done with a tidy up. We arrived at 15:00 and there were empty plastic water cups, used coffee cups and disguarded newspapers everywhere. When we left 3 hours later nobody had tidied up and the place was looking a bit of a state. Apart from that - 5 stars

This hotel has perhaps seen better days, but the staff are charming, service is good and everything was clean. We dined in the restaurant and the food was very good though not exceptional. As long as you require a relaxed, quiet atmosphere (I do), I am sure you will be pleased.

I have just returned from an overnight dinner, bed and breakfast package in spa room. Set in a lovely little village, this hotel is a mix of traditional and modern. I'm pleased to have chosen a Spa Suite instead of a room in the main house as it was wonderful; modern and extremely well appointed. The views across the countryside were lovely (even on a cold February weekend) and the rooms huge. The bath was free-standing and enormous with a wet room style shower which was really lovely. The room air-con was spot on and we slept beautifully on the huge, comfortable bed.

The spa treatment was perfect (as part of the package there was a £25 per person reduction on treatments) and the spa staff dealt with a mix up professionally and without fuss to ensure my experience was not spoilt. I was extremely impressed.

The dining experience was quiet, relaxed and very different to anything I have experienced. The food was beautifully presented, with so many wonderful tastes, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I agree with previous posts that the wine list was expensive .

A relaxing weekend and a real bonus to be able to stay on at the spa the day of check out until 4pm. My only observation would be that the spa allows families with children to use the pool for short periods in the day and that may disturb some people.

We booked a 2 night DB&B stay. We have not been to Ockenden Manor before but the website showed a sumptuous hotel and spa with lots to offer. The Hotel is oldy worldy with a roaring log fire at the entrance which was welcoming on a very chilly day. We were shown to our room (Luke) which didn't have the wow factor I was hoping for. The decor and furniture are dated, but the room was big and adequate for our stay. Although the bathroom has been updated and is big, there is nowhere to put your bathroom bits & bobs other than on the sink.. a little tricky at times. The bed was comfortable, however unless you like hard flat feather pillows, I suggest you bring your own from home. Neither myself or my husband slept well on either night with the pillows provided. The restaurant dining was exceptionally good both for breakfast and dinner, all the staff were very attentive. The wine list is extensive and quite expensive, but there are 'standard wines' available for about £40. The spa is a short walk down the drive and is very modern. The staff all very helpful and told you where everything was. Sadly the WC by the side of the pool area was out of order, and the poolside coffee & tea machine was generally out of water/milk and the hot/cold tea tap was also out of order...just little things but they are quite annoying. The general colour scheme of the spa and staff uniforms is all very beige.. as were the guest bathrobes! All in all a pleasant stay, but certainly the photo's on the website only show off the best of the rooms available which isn't a true reflection of the rooms in the main Hotel.
