SHARAN has chosen SwaSwara for the magical healing energy of that place. The tranquil ambiance, the sea, the lush greenery, the hills, as well as the beautiful individual villas, the holistic planning, and the attitude of the staff will stand out to make your stay comfortable and memorable.
Amenities in the room are towels, soaps, shampoo and conditioner, electric kettle, and purified water in glass bottles for drinking.
If you wish to share a room, you should let SHARAN know at the time of booking. It is best if you find a friend to share the room with as they cannot ensure an amicable match. If someone else of the same sex applies who also wants to share, they can help to coordinate.
If no share will be found for you by the time that the retreat is full, then you will be given a choice to take a room at single occupancy or withdraw your application.

They use no medicines, no surgery, no gimmicks, no expensive supplements, and no imported or extraordinary foods - just some simple scientific information as well as tips and practices about what to avoid and how to prepare your food to retain more fiber and nutrition. Everyone can learn to do this, become their own doctor, and lead a healthier and happier life.
Each year, they run a 22-day residential program in one of the most beautiful health resorts in India. This will be a relaxing, educative, healing, and fun vacation that can change your health destiny!
Day-to-day program will include

Participants can choose what activities they would be doing on the activities that have the same time as the others.
This program is especially useful for:
- Those who want to reverse lifestyle diseases and are willing to make dietary changes
- Those who want to know how to keep themselves and their families well by learning all they can about health and nutrition
- Doctors, nutritionists, health coaches, cooking instructors, or lay people who want to help reverse diseases through nutrition

This program is not ideal for
- Those who cannot understand English instruction; since the program is currently in English, a non-English speaker would miss a lot

- Those who need frequent hospitalization and interventions like dialysis, etc.
- Those who are not self-reliant, unable to walk, and climb two flights of stairs
- Those who have psychiatric illnesses
- Those who are frequently traveling, or cannot be in control of what they are eating (living in a hostel, air hostess, etc.).

Dr Nandita Shah
Dr Nandita Shah, the recipient of the prestigious Nari Shakti Puraskaar in 2016, is the Founder, Director, and trustee of SHARAN. She founded SHARAN in 2005 with the aim of helping people to heal themselves, and the planet, by connecting to animals and nature. Dr Shah is a registered medical doctor, specialised in homeopathy from the CMP Homeopathic Medical College in Mumbai. Having always been interested in natural health she chose homeopathy because it was the treatment which did the least harm. Graduating in 1981, she had a thriving practice in Mumbai and also regularly taught all over the
Captain Joseph Pinto
Capt Joseph Pinto retired from the Indian Airforce as a pilot and started flying helicopters in the Civil Offshore Industry India and abroad. Born into a typical Keralite Christian family, he was naturally a hard core non-vegetarian, and had eaten almost all types of meat. He even used to kill home grown chicken and rabbits in his village for cooking. The result? He suffered from fissures and despite an operation, he always had problem of irregular motion. Jaishree Kannan
Jaishree Kannan has a Master’s degree in Social Work from Madras University and is a qualified Counselor from Xavier Institute of Counselling Psychology. She also holds a Certificate in Plant-Based Nutrition from T Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies from E-Cornell University. She has over 17 years of experience working with various child welfare projects in Mumbai & Chennai. Jaishree is a Nutritional Consultant at SHARAN and also conducts cooking classes, workshops and talks. She was diagnosed with 3rd stage ovarian cancer in 2007 which was successfully treated, but relapsed within 9
Palak Jain
Palak Jain, a Facilitator at SHARAN, is an artist and has worked as a commercial artist, art educator and is currently working as a graphic designer in Ahmedabad. Palak was a vegetarian and had already removed dairy products from her diet since 2 years. On a regular visit to the market, she had a fainting spell. Her doctor diagnosed it as hypertension and told her she would have to take medications for it, every day for the rest of her life. Shashi Rungta
Shashi Rungta who is now in her early fifties, adopted the whole food plant based diet about 2 years ago. Her husband Nirmal had chronic hyperacidity and was over weight (95 kgs) & she had hypo- thyroid. He was advised to switch to a vegan diet. The instruction was to strictly follow it for 21 days without cheating. For Shashi who had never actively engaged in cooking, it was a nightmare. Since her marriage, for almost 30 years, she had barely entered the kitchen. The hired cooks that she had relied upon all these years, were no good for her with the changed diet regime.

SwaSwara in Gokarna is easy to reach by air (Goa’s Dabolim airport is the nearest, being three and a half hours away and Mangalore airport is five hours away). It can also be reached by road or by train on the Konkan Railway, with the nearest stations - Gokarna Road -with Karwar and Kumta on either side of it.
