Tibetan Yoga Tour in Tibetan Plateau/Sichuan

To end the summer of the year, you will ascent the Tibetan plateau to do one of the most exciting trips yet. Zouba Tours will blend their intimate knowledge of the Great Outdoors around the Genie Mountain in Litang with a masterclass in the unique Tibetan yoga practice known as Lu Jong. This tour will be a traverse from the northwest of Yunnan, all the way up to the over 4,000 meters plateau deep in the Tibetan parts of Sichuan. Their aim is to get as intimate as they can with the Tibetan ways of life and do that through the careful practice of Lu Jong and the appreciation of the formidably pristine nature around.

Accommodation

During urban exploring and road-tripping, you have a total of 11 nights in comfortable (boutique) hotels along the route, carefully selected by your expert tour guide, Frank. When in the Genie mountain area, you’ll be camping for four nights at two different campsites. The first campsite will be in the fields among the herders. You'll walk up the valley to find natural hot springs to bathe. Your walks are all very manageable and there will be a lot of time to practice Lu Jong exercises. The second campsite will be next to the oldest and most stunning Buddhist temple in the area. Again, you’ll stay here for two nights and organize an excursion to look for the mystical 'Maitreya rock' further up the valley. You’ll practice Lu Jong in the fields and the forests. On the last night in the Genie mountain area, you’ll stay over at the house of a Tibetan family.

Program

This 17-day expedition will lead you through a diverse scale of destinations in Southwest China. Expect modern Sichuan city life alternating with Buddhist monasteries and historical towns in Yunnan and the Tibetan Plateau area. Expect stunning road trips to ascent the Tibetan Plateau, meeting local lamas, and hanging out with nomad families. Expect flowery fresh green fields stretching long and wide, impressive high altitude forests, crystal-clear alpine lakes and holy snow peaks towering out above all of it. Expect to breathe in the fresh air while practicing Tibetan yoga. Expect to eat wonderful Tibetan foods and to sleep in the wilderness under the starry sky. -Difficulty

Zouba has ranked this expedition in the 'intermediate-difficult' category. This means accessibility is relatively low, altitude is moderate to high (2,500 - 4,500 meters) and there are no real technical trails or exposed terrain. All of the expeditions in this category are suitable for outdoor lovers with hiking experience, if they have a strong physique, have some altitude experience and do not suffer from obesity or high blood pressure. Zouba Tours will provide very detailed information about all the distances and how to deal with the thin air. You travel with a small group, so Zouba Tours can still give a very customized service. They will use an expedition-style approach so that you can practice Lu Jong yoga at the campsites. They are able to organize shorter and more challenging excursions from the campsites for the more experienced members of the group.

Food

Frank started Zouba Tours touring his bicycle in southern Yunnan. Because cycling up and down the mountains made him hungry just about any time of the day, he invested a lot of time and effort into finding all the best restaurants. Today scouting restaurants and ordering exactly the right dishes for the group is still one of Zouba's most distinguishing specialties. Having such wide experience, they also know which restaurants to avoid in terms of hygiene, and they can almost (99%) guarantee that their guests will not get any food poisoning, even though they do select some very local joints. On your caravan treks, there will be much more cooking, and this is a favorite activity to do together, with guests, muleteers, everyone loves good food. Zouba edges towards vegetarian food but can order the most delicious meat on request.
