Each villa has beautifully carved Balinese furniture, handmade furnishings, a walk-in wardrobe with a dressing area, and unique garden bathrooms, walled and private with a view of the sky and rain showers, and some with a sunken stone bathtub.

Program

Ranging from their signature open chakra massage to luxurious baths, sunrise yoga, and sunset meditation, to getting closer to nature through an eco-forest walk, all activities are designed to replenish your being and relax your mind.

Yoga

Zen yoga ranges from gentle movements to increase stamina and suppleness to more energetic practices, all of which harmonize the body, mind, and spirit connection through breathing, concentration, and exercise.

Each session will be a different experience that expands your body awareness and enhances the feeling of inner peace through gentle and strenuous yoga, silent and guided meditation, and pranayama. Begin every day with sunrise yoga with Zen Resort's yoga masters.

Classes can be tailored to suit individual needs and can be taken privately or as part of a group session, including yoga retreat groups, in their specially designed Avani yoga pavilion surrounded by tropical flora, on the Nirvanam treetop terrace with rolling views across rice fields, vineyards, and on to the alluring Bali Sea, or in the ashram room and library.

Meditation

Meditation is based on the principles of concentration and consciousness, without which logical and successful solutions of physical, mental, or spiritual tasks would be difficult to accomplish. Zen Resort's treetop meditation terrace is the perfect location for sunrise and sunset meditation.

Pranayama

Pranayama is the science of controlled, regulated, and effective breathing, thus purifying the physical body and bringing inner peace to the mind and soul. At Zen, pranayama is a daily practice as part of yoga and meditation.

Taking a tour of Singaraja

Visit the Royal Palace in Singaraja and Beji Temple (Pura Beji). This temple was built in the 15th century, during the height of the Majapahit, and is considered to be one of the oldest temples in Bali. Also visit the Dalem Jagaraga Temple, a shrine to worship the god of destruction, and a trek to see the Sekumpul waterfalls.

Golfing with a mountain view

Designed by Pete Thompson, the golf course at Bali Handara Kosaido Country Club is considered to be one of the top five courses in Asia. It is an 18-hole course, located inside the crater of an extinct volcano, at an altitude of over 1,100 m. The course has incredible views of mountains, crater lakes, and a rainforest, creating a dramatic backdrop for golfing.

Witnessing the Mount Batur volcano

The villages of Kintamani, Batur, and Penelokan sit on the rim of Mount Batur crater, approximately 1,500 m above sea level, and offer dramatic views of the active volcano Mount Batur and the serene Lake Batur.

In addition to Mount Batur and Lake Batur, visit the Batubulan Village to see the Barong dance, Celuk Village for silver works, Tegalalang rice terrace, Bali's coffee agrotourism, Goa Gajah Temple, and Mas Village.

Spa treatments

Zen Spa is the only spa in Bali to use the ancient healing form of Ayurveda, an Indian holistic form of wellness, which uses diet, herbal treatment, and yogic breathing to maintain and improve health and well-being.

Relaxing, rejuvenating, and therapeutic massages, as well as body and beauty treatments based on ancient practices from India, Bali, Thailand, and the West, are offered in one of the spa rooms, the outdoor spa pavilion, or in the privacy of your own villa.

The Ayurvedic treatments below are included in your package:

Udwartana (weight loss herbal powder full body massage, one hour, two therapists)

Udwartana means to energize and elevate the whole body. A special mix of medicated powders is applied all over the body and deeply massaged with specific palm and finger movements. This treatment is highly recommended for weight loss and toning the skin and muscles. It also improves blood circulation and removes cellulite.

It imparts a good complexion, revitalizes the skin as well as the sense of touch, and enhances youthfulness.

Abhyangam oil (full body medicated oil massage, one hour, two therapists)

Abhyangam is Ayurveda’s principal healing tool and the mother of all massages. This is a powerful massage regimen in which medicated oils customized to your individual body type are applied liberally over the entire body and deeply massaged into the skin. This treatment is very effective in detoxifying, nourishing, and revitalizing the whole body.

Abhyangam achieves healing effects by naturally harmonizing mind, body, and spirit.

The benefits of this treatment include increased tissue strength and improved general fitness. It simulates blood circulation, rejuvenates the whole body, removes cellulite for anti-aging, helps you sleep better, promotes vitality, and reduces vata imbalances and stress. It is recommended for stiffness, stress, arthritis, and backache.

Shiroabhyangam (head - face - neck herbal oil massage, half an hour)

A soothing massage of the head, neck, and shoulder is given with warm herbal oils. This massage increases the oxygen supply to the brain along with the improved blood circulation. Massage of the eyebrows relaxes the whole body and is therapeutic for eyes and nerves.

The increased flow of brospinal fluid increases the level of life energy. The scalp massage cures dryness, reduces hair loss, and reduces the risk of premature baldness. Massage of the forehead improves sight and power of concentration, facilitates sound sleep, cools the eyes, and reduces headache. The treatment is profoundly soothing and relaxing.

Snana (therapeutic herbal bath, half an hour)

Snana is an Ayurvedic bathing treatment. A daily bath after an abhyangam or self-administered body oil massage is prescribed as part of the dinacharya (daily routine) in Ayurvedic texts.

The bath is filled with warm water that has been previously boiled with various roots, tree barks, and herb leaves selected individually for each person’s prakruti (constitution) and any specific ailments. Cleaning agents like green gram powder are applied all over the body, as is an herbal shampoo for the hair.

This highly cleansing and toning treatment removes toxins of the body through sweating, reduces body pains, acts as an energizer, and enhances complexion and feelings of health and well-being.

Choornasweda Podikizhi (herbal powder mix and compressor body massage, one hour, two therapists)

Podkizhi is another method of therapeutic sweating by fermenting the body thoroughly with linen bundles (kizhi) - compressors containing a powder mix including various herbs. The kizhi are heated in a pan smeared with castor or neem oil and subsequently applied all over the body to induce sweating.

This treatment is effective in relieving ailments involving vitiated vata and kapha doshas, for example, rheumatism and joint pains.

Pizhichil (or “royal treatment” herbal oil compressor body massage, one hour, two therapists)

Pizhichil means an oil bath. Lukewarm medicated oil is soaked in a palm-sized linen bundle and squeezed briskly and kneaded all over the whole body. This is followed by a gentle massage. It is an effective treatment for musculoskeletal disease and chronic fatigue syndrome. It increases body immunity through renewal of the skin and removal of toxins.

It is recommended for rheumatoid arthritis, joint pains, lumbago, sciatica, hemiplegics, paralysis, sexual disorders, tiredness, and nervous disorders.

Bashpasweda (herbal steam weight loss bath, half an hour)

Bashpa means steam. Here, herbal steam is applied evenly to the entire body. Before starting therapy, you will be given cool liquids to prevent dehydration and then made to sit down in your individual wooden steam box. In this position, the entire body except the head is exposed to the medicated herbal steam built up within the box compartment.

This Ayurveda treatment is recommended for all types of body pains and aches. It opens the pores, flushes toxins and impurities, and cleanses the whole body system. It is excellent for improving blood circulation, fat removal, and weight loss.

Shirodhara (forehead flow with medicated oils, one hour, two therapists)

Dhara means flow. This treatment involves a continuous flow of warm, heated herbal oils from an earthen vessel on the forehead. When medicated buttermilk replaces oil, the therapy is called takkadhara. And if it is herbalized milk, then it is called ksheeradhara.

This treatment profoundly relaxes the nervous system, relieves stress and strain, and is highly effective in improving memory, treating migraines and E.N.T disorders, enhancing deep sleep, reducing tension, etc.

Marma energy (ginger herbal oil compressor body massage, one hour, two therapists)

This Ayurvedic treatment focuses on rejuvenating and revitalizing the body’s energy points. It begins with warm ginger compresses all over the body, followed by a powerful energy balancing massage achieved through gentle and firm circular motions with herbalized oils.

The treatment ends with a cleansing and relaxing facial mask that uses customized herbal ingredients to your Ayurvedic body type.

This treatment is a very effective treatment for revitalizing the body and mind. It enhances well-being, feeling of confidence, and helps relieve hemiplegia, paralysis, and rheumatoid ailments.

Talapotichil (medicinal paste head treatment, one hour, two therapists)

Wrapping up the head with medicinal paste is known as talapotichil. It is a recommended treatment for a range of ailments that afflict the head. The paste is applied on the crown and built up to three centimeters thickness and the whole area is then wrapped over with leaves. The paste is removed after some 30 minutes.

This form of treatment is effective for mental stress relief, insomnia, headache, migraine, depression, and hyperactive conditions.

Abhyangam fruit (full body fruit massage, one hour, two therapists)

The same treatment as abhayangam oil is given first, and then fruit juices are applied all over the body, followed by a massage, then repeated. This is very effective for all types of skin diseases. It beautifies and enhances skin complexion, as well as revitalizes the sense of touch and feeling.

Urovasti (heart and cardiac medicated oil massage, one hour, two therapists)

Urovasti is administered to an area of the chest to treat pain in the sternum area. As in kativasti, a reservoir is built up on the chest with black gram paste. Medicinal oil is poured in and retained there for some 30 minutes, followed by a gentle, relaxing massage all over the body.

The benefits of this treatment include strengthening of the heart. It also relieves deep anxiety, anger, and sadness, and is beneficial for cardiomyopathy.

Avagaha sweda (herbal steam water bath, half an hour)

Avagaha means immersion, while sweda is sweating. You will be seated in a large tub filled up to the navel with steaming and warm water prepared with anti-vata herbs. This process will induce body perspiration, thus releasing impurities and toxins.

This treatment is particularly effective when taken after abhyangam. This treatment is effective for stomach and digestion problems, urinary complaints, hernia, rheumatism, and other disorders of the vata and doshas. It is highly effective for aching and sore muscles and painful joints, as well as removing cellulite.

Shastika pinda sweda njavara kizhi (ricemilk compressor body massage, one hour, two therapists)

Njavara is a special kind of rice widely used in Ayurveda treatments. The rice is cooked in milk and an herbal medicated decoction made of kuramthotti. Two to four bowls are made of this specially prepared rice and tied up in a linen kizhi. This kizhi is cooked in herbal warm milk and skillfully massaged all over the body.

This treatment is effective for strengthening and toning skin, tissues, and muscles, and for relieving debilitating monoplegia, weakness, and rheumatism, as well as joint pains, osteoarthritis, and cholesteramia. This treatment also softens the skin and enhances the complexion.

Sarvangadhara (full body flow with herbal oil, butter milk, or herbal milk, one hour, two therapists)

An Ayurveda treatment in which herbal oil, medicated milk, or buttermilk, etc. are poured in a continuous stream all over the body. This treatment helps to soothe the frayed herpes ends, promotes blood circulation, relaxes muscles, and induces sleep. It is recommended for neurological problems, spondylitis, and paraplegia.
