Your accommodation during this yoga retreat will be at eXtreme Hotel, this is where the Yoga Loft is located. eXtreme Hotel is one of the leading ecologically sustainable hotels in the Caribbean and is directly located at Kitebeach, Cabarete. It is an adventure sports and fitness hotel which encompasses the following facilities: kiteboarding school, fitness center, yoga loft, D’Moore massage, circus arts center, beach side restaurant, and a swimming pool.

The facilities at the hotel are designed to be as eco friendly, sustainable, and self sufficient as possible to reduce the ecological footprint. With ventilation systems that use the wind to naturally cool the hotel, tiled floors that keep the heat down and low energy fans, energy consumption is kept at a minimum.

Green vegetation throughout the hotel help to naturally cool the air during the summer months. The hotel also facilitates a small scale Aquaponics system, where wastes produced by farmed fish are used as nutrients to grow edible plants which in turn purify the water, thus conserving water.

As an eco-friendly hotel, they offer environmentally conscious, comfortable rooms where you can relax in without unnecessary amenities such as televisions and air-conditioning systems, minimizing both your and the hotels carbon footprint. The rooms that you will be staying in all come with balconies that allow in natural light and 52” ceiling fans provide sufficient ventilation.

The rooms also come with a mini fridge, screens against mosquitos, private bathroom and a 5-gallon jug of drinking water. All rooms are solar powered, so do remember to conserve when possible. They are functional rooms for active people. So do remember to bring all your own toiletries.

Two free Wi-Fi access points throughout the hotel allow you to get work done and stay in touch with people if necessary. Think of your stay here as an opportunity to digitally detox yourself, spend time time soaking up the sun, and participating in energy infused nature/ health and fitness orientated activities. All guests at the hotel have the opportunity to become part of the community. With a majority of Dominican staff at the hotel, you will get to interact with the locals and also practice a bit of Spanish! eXtreme Hotel is the perfect place to meet amazing people and have an incredible holiday in a tropical paradise.

Retreat location

The Yoga Loft is located on Kite beach, Cabarete, on the North Coast of the Dominican Republic. Cabarete is the perfect place to escape to for a yoga retreat, giving you the opportunity to unwind and be at peace without removing yourself completely from everything. Located only 20 km from Puerto Plata airport with daily international flights it is easily accessible.

Once you arrive and find this unique adventure sports town built between a breathtaking, semi-circular beach and the El Choco National park it is like stepping into a different world. Year long trade winds, glassy waves and the dense tropical rain forest and mountains close by pull in a diverse, active crowd and no two days here are quite the same.

The center of Cabarete-just a 5 minute ride from the hotel- is full of international restaurants, bars, live music spots and much more. Since the town is a hub for active travelers, with a large expat community, there are also a variety of healthy food options. The local fruit stand offers fresh produce at unbeatable prices so even keeping your snacks healthy becomes easier. You can grab a moto for just $1 to take you to a close by vegan restaurant or stroll along the beach into town for freshly caught seafood.

With so many things to try out it’s almost impossible not to pick up a new hobby while you’re here. Cabarete is famous as one of the top kitesurfing destinations in the world but one of the best kept secrets of the Caribbean is that the area also boasts world class surf breaks.

If neither surfing or kiting is for you there are other water-sports to choose from, you can learn windsurfing stand up paddle boarding, or body surfing or if the ocean isn’t your thing you can go canyoning, river tubing, or mountain biking. Most of the instructors for the classes are Dominican locals, so you will also get the opportunity to interact with them and learn more about the country and it’s culture.

Dominican culture is very social and full of passion and life, a great example being the importance of sharing music and dance with popular styles including Merengue, "Bachata" and "Salsa". You can go to the local hotspots and see the experts in action or even try out a few moves yourself as the friendliness and infectious enthusiasm of your new friends will have you up and dancing in no time.

Being outside of the town center, you also have the luxury of heading to bed at 8 pm, as soon it gets dark if an early night sounds more enticing than Latin dancing with no need to worry about the music following you home.

The english term "Yoga" comes from the Sanskrit word "Yuj" meaning "to unite as one". True yoga is practiced in everything you do and is more a way of life, rather than simply performing different yogic postures. The experienced instructors will lead you in daily yoga practices in the beautiful ocean view studio but they also focus on the food you eat during your stay. A healthy balanced diet plays an integral role in both our physical and mental state.

It is important to know where your food comes from and know that the people farming it or the environment in which it is grown is not being exploited. At the hotel, there is an Aquaponics system where the Tilapia fish used in the restaurant is grown, any other fish is caught locally following fishing guidelines to keep numbers at a sustainable level.

Eggs and veggies all come from the Taino Organic Farm 20 minutes away from the hotel. At the farm, everything is grown organically, with no use of pesticides or store bought fertilizers and as a Permaculture farm, it is grown naturally in harmony with the existing ecosystem. This means that the food prepared and served for all programs is organic, natural, farm fresh and nutrient dense, unlike most of today’s store bought products.

If you’re not convinced or want a closer look, you are invited to sign up for the farm tour and have a see for yourself! The menu are carefully planned to provide you with maximum nutrition and energy, all the food is prepared with love, and is to be enjoyed with the same pleasure with which it was created!
