Very friendly and helpful management, ( my daughter forgot her teddy bear, and they were kind enought to look for it and send it back to us) lovely and great first impression of the hotel. Couldn't have been better, giving me directions along with a helpful map for diverses hikes and things to do around the hotel. The hotel view on the montain is exceptional.

Hillside is the best place for a couple of days of total relaxation. The location is picture perfect and only half an hour by car from Luang Prabang. Being surrounded by the beautiful hilly Lao countryside made us feel quite special, and we took full advantage of the facilities at Hillside: the wonderful pool and chill out area, the restaurant/common area and our bungalow.
The owners made us feel very welcome, and run the place efficiently. They give you a map of the area so you can do some self guided walks, excellent for those wanting to explore a bit. We walked up to the viewpoint behind the lodge and Nahm Dong nature park, both great for a short excursion.
The bungalow was comfy, with a good bed and nice balcony. The restaurant serves decent food (with veggies from their garden), make sure to book directly with them to have breakfast included in the room rate.
My wife and I arrived on a very wet and cold 27 Dec 2017. As Holger, the owner, drove us to Hillside through uneven roads, I could not help but have feelings of trepidation. But day one was just that, day one. The remaining three days were excellent. We've been to quite a few hotels around the world and Hillside's service was excellent. Though relatively far from town, we were shuttled to and from town for only USD2 per pax. Dining at Hillside was also enjoyable. Although it was located far from competitors, meals were good and pricing was reasonable. Hillside also provides the best USD to KIP exchange rate. We searched the whole of Luang Prabang and nobody could beat Hillside. Special thanks to Louis Duchatteau. He connected us to 3rd party transportation providers so we didn't get ripped off by the more well known tour operators there. Only regret is that we could not spend one more day there. Would have loved to trekked the area with Buddy, the 'rock star' guide dog. And yes, the photos of the beautiful surrounding mountains are REAL. Would love to come back again!
