Course syllabus

Techniques, training, and practice

This segment emphasis on analytical training to teach and practice multi style asana training, practice of Hatha and Ashtanga, pranayama, meditation, kriyas, and chanting. Every student will be guided through the techniques which will also allow them to practice themselves.

In asana, the focus will be on alignment and correct way to perform each technique. Initial first week will be foundation and gradually built awareness and strength and also develop flow, teaching of different pranayamas, its subtle practice and effects on respiratory and nervous system.

Teaching to withdraw senses, for example Pratyahara (base of meditation practice), and different meditation techniques will be taught and experience its effects on mind like om, chanting, heart meditation, and yoga Nidra.

Yoga philosophy, lifestyle, and ethics for yoga teachers

In this segment, Yogvit Yogshala gives a brief introduction of background and history of yoga. Teachings of yoga sutras, Hatha yoga, Pradipika, Bhagvad Gita. In lifestyle and ethics, you will explore the eight fold paths of yoga. Teaching values of yoga as a Karma yogi.

More than two hours will be spent on living yogic lifestyle. Learning on how to reduce power of kleshas which all human beings are born with. This segment of learning involves spiritual and practical aspects of the course.

Teaching methodology

Teaching methodology segment emphasis on alignment for the asana and its sequence. Principle of demonstrating asana in the class and its effectiveness. Explore different aspects of teaching, communication skills, time management, and designing class according to age, group, and any special needs. In business aspects of yoga, Pradipika teaches how to use individual, professional, and marketing skills.

Anatomy and physiology

This segment of teaching includes the study of physical anatomy of a human body such as skeletal, muscular, respiratory, digestive, nervous system, and organs. This segment also includes study of pranic body (subtle energy) chakras, nadis, bandhas. Further, all this learning will be related to its application to yogic practice.


Student will ask to demonstrate yoga technique taught during the course with necessary adjustments and teaching skills. Practicum involves a well-structured sequence taught in group with clear instructions, movements, and breath understandings. With open heart, everyone will learn to give and receive feedback.

Driving directions from Delhi

Come to Haridwar.

Pass Haridwar.

Go 15-16 kilometers.

You will see the Hanumanji Temple (Baba Neem Karoli Temple) on your left.

Just past the temple is the IDPL Gate on your right. Turn right at this gate.

Keep going straight.

Ask for the Barrage Bridge. Follow the way to the bridge. There will also be signs for Parmarth. Follow these signs.

Cross the Barrage Bridge. You are now eight kilometers from Parmarth Niketan.

Immediately after crossing the bridge, turn left.

Go straight through the mountains. First you will go up, and then go back down.

There will be a fork in the road. One road goes off to the right, for Neelkanth. Dont take this road. Take the road that goes left and down.

Head down until there is a left turn. There will be another sign for Parmarth; turn left.

Go a few hundred meters to the first road (the only road). Actually its more like an alley in the back of the ashrams. It is directly parallel to Ganga, a few hundred feet inland).

Turn right.

Parmarth Niketan Ashram is at the end of this road.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Dehradun Jolly Grant Airport (DED).

The airport is well connected to Delhi with daily flights, probably the best way to reach. Yogvit Yogshala can arrange a taxi for you for 20 USD payable at the time of booking.

Arrival by taxi

Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) to Rishikesh by car is also an option. It's a six to seven hours journey depending on traffic. You can book a cab at the airport prepaid taxi counter.

Students should plan latest to arrive one day before the day course begins and depart after the last session or the next day.

Course information

At Yogvit you will be provided with all of the necessary study materials and learning aids for the yoga teacher-training program. To make the best out of the program, participants are required and advised to attend all asana and pranayama classes, lectures, spiritual activities, and meditation sessions. Students are kindly requested not to engage in any other activities during course time. However, there are no lectures on Sundays and during the course students do have few breaks and advised to keep that time for self. Participants need to comply with the ashram rules.

Admission requirements

Healthy individuals, any level with minimum or no experience of yoga, are welcome. A basic knowledge and practice of yoga postures and philosophy would be helpful however not mandatory. An open heart with self-motivation for learning would help achieve the objective of the course. Yoga practitioners who have been doing yoga and want to become teachers, and people who want to learn the Indian traditional yoga and understand the yoga way of life are also welcome.

Electricity is 220 volts. You may need to bring an adapter for charging your computer, phone, or any other sophisticated electronics.

Carry appropriate, casual, and yoga clothing for local climate. Yogvit Yogshala request the students to respect the local culture and sensitivity by dressing modestly

What to bring

At Yogvit Yogshala there are yoga mats; however a new mats can also be purchased in the store nearby. Yogvit Yogshala suggests you to travel light and purchase necessities there, which are easily available in local market near ashram. However it is advised to bring any medicines that you are taking regularly during your visit. Carry at your own risk expensive items like cameras, MP3 players, laptops, tablets, kindles, mobile phones, etc.

Passport / visa

You need visa, if international travel rules and regulations require you to have a visa for the travel into India. Kindly google for details of your local Indian Embassy website. A tourist visa is easy to get. Please bring two copies each of your passport main page (the inside cover which has the passport number and photo) and the page that has the India visa. Also advisable to scan it and keep in your emails as spare copy to print whenever you need.
