Since it is an ashram, YogTemple can be best described as a home away from home for students undertaking yoga teacher training in India. The ashram building is spread across two floors; the yoga classes are conducted in the garden outside or inside the ashram in a spacious hall. Fully furnished bedrooms are allotted to students, each provided with western-styled bathrooms, beds, cupboards, ceiling fans, and electricity sockets. Students are more than welcome to make use of the fully operational kitchen to prepare their own meals. Also, stay connected with the world with a provided Wi-Fi connection.

Accommodation will be provided on first come, first serve basis as per availability. Every student will get a personal room or a shared room depending on the booked package. Each room is equipped with a bed, shelves for clothes, a fan, and a small side table. No adjustments from the total course fee would be done on the basis of accommodation. In case all rooms are occupied inside the ashram, Yogtemple will provide the same accommodation in the near vicinity.

The 200-hour intensive Hatha yoga teacher training course is a mix of theory and practice sessions involving mantra chanting, asanas, anatomy and physiology, philosophy based on the eight limbs of yoga, pranayama, and meditation. Special correction and alignment sessions will also help you learn the best yogic practices.

The Intensive residential 200-hour Hatha yoga teacher training course is an in-depth study of yoga practices that will nurture and sharpen your yoga teaching techniques. Taught by an experienced and highly skilled teaching team, the certified yoga teacher training course is the perfect way to inherit the yogic wisdom of ancient yogis, adapted to meet present-day needs. The residential program allows the students to leave behind worldly distractions and experience spiritual awareness and transformation, as they get ready to play the role of teachers themselves.

You do not need to have prior experience as a yoga teacher to be part of this course - a natural interest in learning and teaching yoga is all you are required to bring to the ashram. Upon the completion of the yoga teacher training course, you will feel empowered with life changing yoga knowledge and skills that you can share with others. You will also be awarded the Yoga Alliance International yoga teacher certificate (CYT), the international recognition for certified and registered yoga teachers.

YogTemple provides all necessary study materials for the course. Students are evaluated on their understanding of the guidelines and discipline for the yogic path. Student conduct also forms part of the assessment criteria.

Practice sessions

The 200-hour yoga teacher training course includes over 50 Hatha yoga postures (beginner and advanced level postures). Modifications and advanced variations of all postures are also taught. Feedback will be given daily by teachers immediately after the asana class, based on their observations. Individual corrections, modifications, and variations are suggested daily in these classes, held on alternate days in accordance with the observation and feedback made by the teachers about your practice or your own individual need. You will also attend daily workshops held on alternate days on topics like arm balances, back bending, headstand, and inversions; these workshops are aimed to help you practice safely and effectively. Lastly, the hands-on adjustments will enable you to deepen your physical practice.

Teaching practice

This practice includes exercising teaching, receiving feedback, hearing and giving feedback, and observing others’ teaching. It also includes assisting students while someone else is teaching. You begin to teach from the second week of the course. You will learn to give hands-on adjustment. You will also teach at least one full open class during the course. You will receive regular feedback by the teachers and your fellow students regarding your teaching style. This will help you improve and find your unique voice and style as a teacher.

Course theme

The course leads you through the proper techniques for various yoga postures and includes sessions on key alignments, modifications, and contraindications as well as hands-on adjustment techniques, teaching methodology, and teaching practice. You will learn about the principles of sequencing so that you can create a Hatha yoga sequence on your own, according to the need of your future. Learning the Sanskrit names for postures will be emphasized, which will not only expand your knowledge but also enhance your professionalism as a teacher.

Posture correction and alignment

The morning Aasana teacher will make observations about your personal practice and alignment during the main morning asana classes. You will be given feedback based on these observations immediately after the class so that you can correct your alignment or choose the suitable modification on variation. All necessary corrections in your practice will be suggested to you the same day or during the posture clinics.

Posture corrections and alignments are included in the course with the sole purpose of helping you practice with correct techniques and alignment from the first day itself so that you can improve and deepen your practice every time you hit the mat. It will also ensure that you advance your practice to a much higher level by the end of the course.

Pranayama (breath control)

This part of the course includes an introduction, breathing essentials, energy enhancing breaths, mechanics of breath, prana and lifestyle, yogic breathing, nadi shodhana (alternate nostril breathing), bhastrika (bellows breath), sheetali (cooling breath), sheetkari (hissing breath), kapalabhati (frontal brain cleansing breath), bhramari (humming bee breath), and ujjayi (psychic or victorious breath).

Bandhas (energy locks)

Introduction, types, moola bandha (root lock), uddiyana bandha (abdominal lock), jalandhara bandha (throat lock), maha bandha (great lock).

Mudras (psychic gesture)

Introduction, types, hand mudras, head mudras, postural mudras, lock mudras, perineal mudras, chin mudra (psychic gesture of consciousness), jnana mudra (psychic gesture of knowledge), bhairavi mudra (terrifying attitude), shambhavi mudra (eyebrow centre gazing), shanmukhi mudra (closing seven gates), kechari mudra (tongue lock).

Shatkarma (body cleansing)

There are seven ways of cleansing the body. During the course, two types will be tought: Jal Neti (nasal cleaning with water) and Sutra Neti (nasal cleaning with thread).

Yoga therapy

A guide to practices directed to specific areas of the body and the prevention and improvement of common diseases.

Anatomy and physiology

Principles of asana, pranayama, mudra, bandha, and their effects on the body. The functions, organs, and diseases of skeletal, muscular, digestive, respiratory, circulatory, excretory, nervous, endocrine, reproductive, and immune systems. Basic Ayurveda and Tridoshas.


The meaning of yoga, history of yoga, the relevance of yoga today, the eight limbs of yoga, the essence of Bhagavad Gita, talks on chakras and Kundalini (dormant energy).

Mantra chanting

Introduction and types of mantras: beeja mantras (seed mantras), nirguna mantras (mantras without form), saguna mantras, deity mantras (related to specific divinity energies).

Trataka (concentration gazing)

Trataka acts as a stepping stone between physically-oriented practices and mental practices which lead to higher states of awareness.

Dhyan (meditation)

Introduction, why do meditate, mechanics of the mind, the basics of meditation, guide to meditation, health for meditation, peaceful diet.

The business of yoga

Opening up your own school or studio, advertising and business strategies, teaching career, networking with different yoga schools, teachers, and studios.

No classes will be held on Sunday; it is a day during which you can rest and explore the beautiful surroundings.

Retreat location

The course will take place in the beautiful neighborhood of Siolim, around the Chapora River in North Goa, India. Goa is India’s smallest state famed for its colonial Portuguese and Catholic past. Most tourists visit Goa for its endless selection of sandy beaches and coastal attractions. Standing proudly next to the Arabian Sea, Goa is a particularly compact state and often feels like a large town, being easy to travel to most locations around the state by bus, car, taxi, or auto rickshaw.

Two of the most notable locations within Goa are Panaji (the capital city) and also Vasco da Gama, Goa's biggest town. However, it is the many beach resorts of Goa that have become tourist hotspots, where bamboo beach shack accommodations can be found and water sports enjoyed. The beaches of Baga and Calangute are especially popular all through the year.

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Goa International Airport (GOI), also known as Dabolim Airport. Please note that Yogtemple will be able to arrange an airport transfer for you, for an extra charge.
