There is a range of accommodation to choose from, to suit every traveler's need. All rooms are a lovely mix between rustic charm and stylish design with a sustainable touch. Some private rooms have private baths, while others have shared baths. Rooms are located in larger cabanas or in stand-alone structures (casitas). Nicaragua is hot and while the lack of hot water for showering might seem like a disadvantage, you find it’s really not necessary.

There are five beds in each dorm and there will most likely be one all female dorm and one coed dorm. There is a shared bathroom and the dorm is located closer to the common area so it can be a bit noisier.

Shared room

In a shared room, if you come with a friend or a partner you will have a private room for two. If you are coming solo you will be in a room of two or three people. The shared rooms are a bit nicer and quieter than the dorm rooms.

Premium rooms

Most premium rooms are in the casitas which are stand-alone units in the quietest part of the village. They are the newest units and can be described as comfortable, cozy, airy, and well designed. There is also a premium room with a king bed that is in the back of one of the big Casas with a private bath.

Private rooms are for one person and you can choose between a standard private or a premium private.

The surf

Yogascapes foster an environment of advancement, where your level of skill isn’t nearly as important as your level of passion. Paddle out, charge hard, smile, and you’ll fit right in with the rest. The home break is Playa Maderas, a beach break that works best during the two hour period on either side of high tide. Due to its location just west of Lake Nicaragua, Maderas gets hit with about 320 days a year of offshore winds, making its consistency uncanny. It averages waves of four to six feet in the rainy season (April to October) and two to four feet through the dry season (November to March). The water temperature ranges from 20 - 25 degrees, so there is never a need for more than a vest.

  • Rachelle Tratt

Rachelle Tratt is a Los Angeles based yoga instructor, community leader, and Soulful entrepreneur. She created The Neshama Project, a yoga inspired and socially conscious jewelry company that gives back. Rachelle teaches from a very intentional place and truly offers her students an opportunity to fall back in love with their body and their life though her unique style of teaching yoga.

This retreat will take place in Maderas, Nicaragua. Maderas village is an airy, sustainably-minded surf village, nestled into a hillside jungle, overlooking Maderas beach. Guests describe the Maderas village as an undiscovered boutique resort, a summer camp for adults, or a retirement community for young people.

Nicaragua is full of natural beauty and a rich cultural history. While Yogascapes love to see people fall in love with the Maderas life and never leave, they also encourage people to experience the other parts of Nicaragua that make living here so much fun.

All meals are included in the price, except for the dinner out in town. Yogascapes take food very seriously. It’s personal to them. It’s not just the act of nourishment, but the source of energy. Nightly pre-fixed dinners are served to guests seated at the large communal table, and enjoyed over tales of surf and travel, philosophical quandaries, and debates of the mind.

Yogascapes will provide all meals during your trip (three daily) except for the night that you all go into town. Please let Yogascapes know as soon as you sign up for the trip or before you sign up if you have any special needs, food allergies, or other allergies, or any other special needs or conditions, dietary, or medical. Yogascapes can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options.

The following meals are included:

  • Breakfast
  • Lunch
  • Dinner

The crew at Madera can set up other activities, like a catamaran tour, horseback riding, or massages. While staying at the house, you’ll always find someone who wants to walk down to the beach, tell a surf story, share a surf secret, or debate a surf question. Yogascapes often take surf trips in their safari to Hermosa and Remanso (15 USD and 10 USD per person), as well as boat trips to more remote breaks of Colorado, Manzenio, and Panga Drops (30 USD per person).

  • 1 to 2 daily yoga classes
  • 2 group surf lessons with knowledgeable and experienced local guides
  • 6 nights eco-chic and rustic accommodation at Maderas Village
  • Delicious and nourishing breakfasts, lunches, and dinners daily
  • Dinner in town is not included

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Augusto C. Sandino International Airport (MGA) in Managua, Nicaragua. Airport transfer is not included because everyone tends to arrive at different times, but usually there are two or three others that will want to share one and Yogascapes always help arrange it.

Just let them know your flight details and they can take it from there. It’s best to try to arrive between mid morning and mid afternoon, and depart noon onwards. One way transportation is 140 USD for four people, 120 USD for three people, and 100 USD for one to two people.

For information about the booking conditions, please send Yogascapes an inquiry.

"Hard to organize, easy to get wrong, done perfectly well. We all thought that the Ecocamp was the pick of the places to stay in the Torres, the Circuit was excellent. Cascada was a million miles ahead of everyone else. Your food was far, far better than the Refugios. Your guides were world class. Safe and effective. I cannot speak too highly of Cascada and your efforts."

"Our stay in El Chaltén was magical. Our visit to the Ecocamp was also magical. Our guides, Hernan and Nico were perfect. We really enjoyed our yurts, the food was excellent, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the mountains were beautiful. This is a very special place."

"Our EcoCamp experience was clearly the highlight of our 10-day Patagonia visit and one of the best of our many years of international travel. We loved everything about EcoCamp, even though we had one day of mostly heavy rain."

"The Iceland trip in a nutshell: double rainbows and hot springs everywhere, amazing people, one of the best yoga instructors I have ever encountered, Aarona rocks, great lodging, daily active adventures, and just a darn good time. I went with a friend but would have been comfortable going solo. I would definitely recommend going, it was one of the best trips of my life!"

"By the end of the first yoga session, I felt incredible. My hands were hot, tingling with a reinvigorated circulation, and I could not feel any tension in any part of my body; everything hung loose. The calming effects of this yoga class were heightened due to an earlier visit to the Blue Lagoon, the geothermal spa that lies in a lava field in the south coast fishing town of Grindavík."

"I did not think I needed this workshop. I thought I had a decent relationship with my body, yet over the course of the workshop, I became aware of the myriad ways in which I internalize negativity and undermine my body and, therefore, myself on a daily basis. It was powerful to realize that transforming negativity could have such a profoundly beneficial effect on me and those around me, daily, lastingly."

"Kimber’s open and generous discussion of her body issues and that of the other women in the workshop helped me understand my own and taught me easy ways to overcome them. Highly recommended for anyone who would like a better relationship with their body."

"I left the retreat refreshed. I loved the yoga sessions, they energized me for the day and relaxed me for the night. The teachers, Shannon and Micah, were amazing in that I lost myself in the yoga and the fabulous surrounding. The food was plentiful and very yummy. As a first-time rock climber, I was exhilarated to make it to the top of a tricky climb that I thought was far out of my skill, but the instructor talked me through step by step and I made it to the top. And the group was wonderful."

"Thank you, guys, for an awesome retreat in Moab, Utah. You have great instructors, with Shannon and Micah for the daily dose of yoga on the rocks next to the Colorado River. The most amazing thing was the abundance of free spirit of the other travelers. It was a great experience!"

  • Review by Kimber Simpkins

"My whole life I have loved to hear and share stories and I know from experience there is nothing quite like letting a powerful, heart-shifting story seep into your pores as you settle into a breath-filled yoga pose. Chopping vegetables for dinner at night, I often turn on my favorite snappy storytelling radio show and listen for inspirational stories to share in yoga class. I believe sometimes a single story can change your life."

  • Review by Alisha from Washington, USA

"Deciding to attend the women's spring awakening retreat was probably the best decision I have ever made for myself. I suppose I somehow manifested the experience because I was struggling in my life and had been looking at options to get away for quite some time. Five days before the retreat started, I found this with Amber and Tawny, and everything about it screamed do this! Thankfully, Leah from Yogascapes wrote me back immediately urging me to join! I was looking for a place to lose myself in yoga and heal. This experience turned out to be so much more than that. Never have I felt so rawly accepted for who I was down to my core right from the moment I walked in the door and was greeted by hugs and bindis. The yoga was unique, challenging, and inspiring. I am an adventure guide for at-risk youth and have spent a lot of time creating environments and activities to push the young people I work with; so it was quite interesting to be on the receiving end of a therapeutically designed activity. The instructors are so well rounded, creative, and driven. Amber and Tawny brought such love, compassion, and genuine peace to each beautifully designed activity, that inner reflection, and self-love developed naturally. This experience was the most incredible combination of beautiful people, fabulous food, and the most amazing atmosphere that fostered and guided me through some much-needed soul searching. It is hard to describe how this time of emotional vulnerability, with fear of expressing feelings, and anxiety towards life choices, turned into confidence in dreams and compassion for experiences. Any woman would benefit from this retreat in some form. I also walked away with 20 new beautiful women in my life who I am overjoyed to call friends, who make me feel loved every day still. I am choosing to be happy and wholeheartedly enjoy my now, but I am so thrilled for next spring already. Thanks!" website, edited

"All in all, I thought it was a good retreat. Pedro is a wonderful person, as well as a good instructor. Avalon Springs is a bit on the rustic side and had too much vegetarian food for my taste, I was starving when I got home. The staff at Avalon Springs are all really lovely people and the hot springs are very rejuvenating. I thought the cost was a bit high for less than 48 hours of being there. I think the seven days pricing was much more appropriate. I went to this three-day yoga retreat in January 2014." website, edited

The energy and restoration of this week will live with me for a long time. I am filled with gratitude for Ben and Georgie in helping to restore my soul."
