YogaPrema has been running retreats for many years at Shekina Yoga Retreat. It is certainly one of their favorite places. Very quickly the relaxed atmosphere settles you into your retreat. The primary focus is you. It's your time to immerse into traditional yoga practices such as Hatha Yoga, Meditation, chanting mantras, kirtan (devotional singing). Alison will be hosting the retreat and looks forward to welcoming all of you. The retreat is open to all levels of practitioner.

Accommodation

Yogaprema offers clean and comfortable accommodation. You will be accommodated in shared cabins (up to 5 persons), shared cabin / yurt / unidome in the garden or shared room in the house (twin or double). In addition, there is one single room in the house. Accommodation is allocated on a first come first served basis and is subject to availability. You are suggested to book early to secure the accommodation of your choice.

Program

Flowing traditional Hatha yoga sessions will naturally open the heart and nurture you to a space of surrender and stillness. Practices will be intuitive, strong, deep and supportive, and cater for all levels from the novice to the seasoned practitioner. A typical class will include asana (postures), pranayama (breathing exercises), hands-on adjustments, guided relaxation, chanting, and a taste of philosophy.

The schedule also includes kirtan, puja, devotional chanting of mantras and some talks/readings about inspiring yoga philosophy. There will be plenty of time for you to indulge in a massage or you may like to relax and steam detox in the sauna or simply curl up in the garden with a book, the choice is yours.

Yoga classes

Traditional Hatha yoga. The classes will vary accordingly, some classes will be more dynamic and flowing, others will be slow, meditative and with the use of mantras. Classes are suitable for all levels.

Kirtan / mantra chanting

Kirtan is a very beautiful practice that melts away any worries and concerns, opens the heart and simply makes you feel great! Kirtan is an essential part of Bhakti yoga and is the singing of mantras or prayers, usually with musical accompaniment. Kirtan is an opportunity to open the heart and sing to the Divine. Joining in song and voice, you can open to pure consciousness and love. You don't need to be a singer to participate, just sing from your heart and feel the bliss!

Instructors

Alison Powell
Alison was introduced to yoga at a young age and danced around her practice for many years, exploring different traditions. In 2005 she found her way to the Sivananda Ashram in Neyyar Dam, India, where she discovered a steady practice that allowed her flighty spirit to settle. In 2013 she completed her Yoga Teacher Training with Yoga Prema in Rishikesh, North India and became a member of Yoga Alliance. She now has a strong daily practice that she loves to share with others. Alison believes that regular practice of yoga enables her to see life as the beautiful ever-evolving journey it truly is.

Retreat location

Shekina Yoga Retreat is situated on the side of Chalice Hill and has been a hub of activity in Glastonbury since its inception in 2003. It is a place of retreat and celebration both peaceful and dynamic, the ambiance here is homely, relaxed, grounded and is focused on living consciously, peacefully and truthfully. This is a place to take rest, reflect and journey deeper into your spiritual practice. As a spiritual community, Shekina Yoga Retreat is a western evolution of an ancient tradition where sacred space is created away from the world where individuals come to both cultivate and draw upon spiritual sustenance.

Food

All meals are wholesome, nutritious, vegetarian, homemade and cooked with love. You will follow a yogic diet. Herbal tea are available.

How to get there

Driving directions from Dod Lane Glastonbury

  • When driving up Dod Lane, the lane bends to the left.
  • At this point, drive straight on into the Shekinashram parking area (sign posted Footpath to Tor).
  • Please park on the right or the left of this area, allowing public access through to Chalice Hill

Arrival by airplane

You have to book flights to Bristol Airport (BRS).

Arrival by bus

There are regular buses into Glastonbury from Bristol and Bath (approximately 1 hour away).

Arrival by train

You can take the train to get to Bristol, Bath or Castle Cary. There are buses from there to Glastonbury. The bus service from Castle Cary to Glastonbury is sparse.

Arrival by taxi

You can take a taxi from Castle Cary to Glastonbury at the price of around 35 GBP.

  • Bath - 1 hour
  • Bristol - 1 hour

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 50% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
  • The rest of the payment should be paid 14 days before arrival.
