The property is located on the ocean in the center of the Gastronimica Routa, a restaurant rich area along Playa de Salinas. There are two houses on the property, the smaller one is a one bedroom, one bath is is a good choice for a couple or friends that want more privacy. This house has a nice deck that would be yours alone to enjoy.

The larger house with three bedrooms and two baths was nearly destroyed in Hurricane Maria and will be back online for guests in on January 1, 2019. There is direct access to the ocean from the house, a laundry house, and a big courtyard for yoga sessions and a cozy shaded-all-day outdoor area with a sink, table and chairs.

The large house has a marvelous porch with good cross breezes from the ocean. Meals will be held here. The three bedrooms are set up in a traditional island layout, two with separate doors to the porch. The third is reached through one of the other bedrooms and has it's own bath.

There are three double beds and a set of bunks. The program is intimate in size with five to eight people maximum and two hosts. There is a cozy living room, a good sized kitchen, and a protected ocean-side dining porch.

Program

While each day is nicely configured, the order they may be experienced could change as YogaPaddler negotiates with their vendors for the best packages.

Day 1: Thursday - Arrival

Airport pick ups will take place mid-afternoon with a get to know each other lunch on the way to the villa in Playa Salinas. You will acclimate, unpack, go for a grocery run for special items, and enjoy a paddle outing to the first island or a yoga session with Shanna. Dinner, meditation, or a night swim; all are possible!

Day 2: Friday - East side of the Island

After a hearty breakfast, you head out to explore El Yunque, the rainforest. The route along the way follows the rugged south coast and up towards Fajardo. You will stop in transit for photos and a swim or wading.

Lunch includes a delicious smoothie on the way to the nearby beach where you can sun, walk the shoreline, or take an optional surf lesson. Much of the rainforest was damaged in Hurricane Maria, though now some trails are open. You will try the hike to the waterfalls.

Days 3 and 4: Saturday and Sunday - Through the mountains and north shore visit

You start the day off with a good breakfast and load up to cross over the island mountains. You will be amazed at the terrain; very tropical, with curvy roads, steep cliffs, and beautiful visits. Your first stop will be a coffee plantation and tour.

You next stop in Isabela where you will enjoy a seaside lunch and bicycle riding. Then, you will check into your lodging for the night and head to the beach for a walk across the coral ridge and a yoga session on the beach.

Here, you are on your own to explore Jobos beach and the many restaurants. You are spending the night in the area. You return to the beach the next morning for an optional surf lesson and lunch. You will enjoy horseback riding for an hour before you return to the villa.

This night in Salinas, you are on your own for dinner. There is karaoke and dancing at a little place down the street from the villa on Sunday nights that YogaPaddler has found to be fun and a great way to meet some of the neighbors.

Day 5: Monday - Gilligan's Island

This is a marvelous experience. You will bring enough kayaks / SUP boards for each of you to paddle one way out to the island (the other direction, you will each ride the ferry). You order lunch from the counter before you take off for the island and they deliver it a few hours later.

This is a great place for yoga in the water. Snorkeling is super fun here. You will see iguana and many colorful fish. You can stay here all day if you like or pack up a little early and head into Ponce and enjoy dinner on your own, stop at the casino, walk the square, or explore the Fire Station Museum. Returning to the villa, you will enjoy a starlit restorative yoga and an optional evening swim.

Day 6: Tuesday - Playa Salinas

You will explore the town you are staying in starting with a paddle outing to Caye Matias (there is an ferry option). This is a tropical island with beautiful clear waters and good snorkeling. You can enjoy a rest at the local beach. You will do SUP yoga today. Dinner is on your own (choose from the many little restaurants in the area).

Day 7: Wednesday - Old San Juan

After parking, you will meander to the white-walled villa of Ponce de Leon, now a museum. You can enjoy the gardens, with sweeping views and steeped in history. This is a relaxing hidden enclave in an otherwise bustling city. Here, you are on your own to explore as a group or in pairs. Head to the forts for more wonderful views and look for the crystals store and the chocolate bar; both are worthy stops!

You will meet up again for lunch at a restaurant called St. Germain and continue your walking tour past the oldest church, the gates, the pigeons, charming shops, and lastly, the craft vendors. Dinner will be at the villa.

Day 8: Thursday - Departure

The morning will be spent readying to go, doing the laundry, cleaning up, and putting away stuff. Then, you head out for your farewell lunch at a favorite restaurant: Believe and then off you will go to the airport.

Yoga

You will explore some of the different styles yoga has to offer including Vinyasa Flow, Restorative, Yin, Chakra, Bhakti, SUP yoga, and yoga Nidra.

Meditation

Meditation series with three break out session helping you to further your meditation practice. Including an introduction into the Transcendental, Mindfulness, and Loving Kindness styles of mediation.

Facebook group

Participants are invited to share photos, notes, memories, and more on a private Facebook group page.

Included excursions

Paddle outing

A rare and unique opportunity allows for daily paddles around the harbor and park. Mornings are the best times to spot manatees, dolphins, nurse sharks, star fish, sting rays, and other sea life.

Coffee plantation tour

High in the mountains on your way to Aguadilla, you will stop at the coffee plantation and have a tour.

National park entry fees

These fees get you into the historic forts in Old San Juan.

Horseback riding

This fantastic ride along the north shore ocean will give you oodles of photo opportunities.

Bicycle rental

This is part of your north shore itinerary to Aguadilla with super views.

Food

This retreat includes 6 breakfasts, 7 lunches, and 4 dinners. All meals served at the retreat center are vegan with a vegetarian option. Meals out have no restrictions, though all the restaurants we will be visiting have exceptional choices for vegan/vegetarian meal choices. Both of this event's coordinators are whole food/plant based.

Breakfast will be made on your own, we will supply a good choice of ingredients so you can do smoothies, granola, oatmeal, your choice. Lunches are often on the road as nearly every day has a new adventure. These are all included. Dinners at the retreat center are included, dinners out are on your own.

Recreation Equipment is free. This includes SUP (Stand UP Paddle) boards, kayaks, snorkel gear, paddles, life jackets, and yoga mats. There are two optional opportunities for surf lessons priced from 60 to 75 USD. Optional horseback riding along the surf on the north shore, 65 USD. The yoga instructor is available for private yoga. This session will help deepen your practice focusing on alignment amd safety, 75 USD. Massage is also available for 75 USD.

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Luis Munoz Marin International Airport (SJU). Transfer from and to the airport is included if your scheduled arrival and departure is for mid-afternoon. YogaPaddler will pick you up from the airport.

Cancellation Policy

  • A reservation requires a deposit of 25% of the total price.
  • The deposit is non-refundable, if the booking is cancelled.
