Take this peaceful break and escape from your busy and stressful life. Open your heart and nurture yourself surrounded by the beauty of the Cotswolds woods. Join your hosts Dory Walker and Rory Viggers to create a space of surrender and stillness. During this retreat, you will enjoy daily yoga classes and meditation sessions, experience posture workshops, breathing exercises, and you will learn a taste of yoga philosophy while you relax in beautiful gardens.
During this retreat, you will stay either in a private or a shared room, in a yurt or in a tent, at Holycombe holistic retreat center. The residential holistic retreat center features rooms, a yurt, and a camping area. The campsite is situated adjacent to the Whichford wood, an area of outstanding natural beauty which boasts a wealth of flora and fauna. There are two five-meter bell tents with wooden floors, one double and two single futons, and they are attractively furnished with rugs, lantern, cushions, solar fairy lights, and bunting.
You can light a fire outside your bell tent on the firepit. You will have access to the campsite kitchen, bathrooms, and showers, and there is an exclusive shower and bathroom for glampers. You will need to bring your own bedding, such as duvets or sleeping bags, pillows, sheets, pillow cases, and towels.
Across a meadow, is the ancient Whichford wood with many rare species of trees and plants, an abundance of wood anemones, primroses, and bluebells in spring, and chestnuts, blackberries, and sloes in autumn. Wildlife abounds: everything from Muntjack to polecats and kingfishers. There is also a coppice that provides a shady outdoor space, there is also a campfire area and a large stone circle on the castle site.
A large sunny space called The Angel room is available for group activities and it opens out onto a terrace. On chilly days there is a log fire. A beautiful garden room is available for sharing meals and rose-scented terraces that overlook the pond and grass tennis court.
This retreat aims to be a warm and welcoming space in which you can deepen your yoga practice surrounded by beautiful gardens. Upon arrival, you will have your first yoga class at 18:00, but generally the days will begin with silent meditation sessions and mantra chanting. Led by Dory Walker and Rory Viggers, the traditional Hatha yoga sessions will naturally open your heart and nurture you to a space of surrender and stillness.
A typical class will include asana or postures, pranayama or breathing exercises, hands-on adjustments workshop, guided relaxations, chanting, and a yoga philosophy lesson. Each class will last for two hours.
After yoga class, you will enjoy a delicious healthy breakfast followed by free time for massage treatments, nature walks, reading, or maybe taking a gentle stroll to enjoy the nearby bluebell woods.
Then, you will enjoy an afternoon yoga practice followed by other activities that may include meditation, inspiring cinema exhibitions, and chanting. In the last day, departure will be after lunch.
Atiya is a warm and compassionate yoga teacher. Yoga became important for Atiya when working as a solicitor in London, where it had a profound effect on her life, keeping her steady, grounded, and positive during a major transitional period. Atiya studied yoga within the Sivananda tradition, has been teaching since 2011, and is certified to advanced level. Her aim is to share the teachings as best as she can - with love, inspiration and a sense of fun! She is also a registered and practising nutritional therapist with a degree in Biochemistry and training in Naturopathic Nutrition.
This retreat will take place at the Holycombe holistic retreat center in Whichford, UK. The area of Whichford is a few miles away from Stratford-upon-Avon, Oxford, Banbury, and Cheltenham towns. The beautiful Cotswold market towns such as Stow-on-the-Wold and Moreton-in-the-Marsh are also within a few miles from the retreat center.
Holycombe is a serene haven of beauty and tranquillity. It is warm and welcoming with a purpose-built space for yoga and beautiful gardens to relax in, you cannot help but fall in love with this very special place in the Cotswolds.
Set in a verdant wooded valley on the edge of the Cotswold village of Whichford, the Holycombe center is built on the grounds of a Norman castle, land which is believed to have been a sacred site many years before Roman occupation. A natural stream rises from a holy well in the nearby wood, passes through the grounds down to a waterfall. The sound of running water adds to the sense of peace and tranquillity in the grounds whilst a coppice provides a shady outdoor space and a campfire area.
During this retreat, you will enjoy three daily healthy vegetarian meals. The Holycombe center also features a kitchen available for communal use.
The program of this yoga holiday is planned in such a way so that you will have free time to enjoy additional activities. You will probably not want to do much when you get to Holycombe except relax, soak in the surrounding beauty, and go on bluebell walks in the nearby woods. Across a nearby meadow, is the ancient Whichford woods with its many rare species of trees and plants, an abundance of wood anemones, primroses, and bluebells.
You can enjoy additional massage treatments, have nature walks, or hang out in the gardens, reading, or maybe taking a gentle stroll to enjoy the nearby woods.
While in the retreat, you can book a massage or body treatment for an additional cost. The Holycombe retreat center offers different types of treatments such as holistic and ayurvedic massages, Shiatsu, Reiki, reflexology, block clearance and hypnotherapy, kinesiology and acupuncture, psychic readings, psychotherapy, and a person centered counselling.
Please book your flight to arrive at London Oxford Airport (OXF). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request. Upon arrival, it is suggested to take a bus to Chipping Norton or a train from Oxford to Banbury or Moreton-in-Marsh. You can also arrive at the Heathrow Airport (LHR) and take an airport coach from Heathrow to Banbury. Upon arrival to Banbury, it is suggested to take a taxi to the retreat center.
Buses from Oxford, from the Gloucester Green station, go as far as Chipping Norton station which is five miles away from the retreat. There are regular buses from London Victoria to Oxford - Oxford Citylink and Oxford Tube. There are also buses from Stratford-upon-Avon to Shipston or Long Compton. From Shipston, you will need to take a taxi to the retreat center. From Long Compton, it is a 45 minute walk.
The nearest railway station is Moreton-in-the-Marsh. It is five miles away and it is on the Oxford-Hereford line. From London, you can take the train to the Paddington station. The Banbury rail station is 12 miles away and can be reached from Paddington and Marylebone stations. From the North, there are trains via Birmingham to Stratford-upon-Avon. Upon arrival to either station, it is suggested to take a taxi to the retreat.
If you arrive to either Banbury or Moreton-in-Marsh or Chipping Norton, you will need to get a taxi. Sharing a taxi from Heathrow might be the best option. You can ask the Holycombe Retreat Center for taxi options.
