Each part following in the order listed acts as a synergist to the other.
The tutoring is tailor made for the personal needs and condition of the individual practitioner. Even within a large group.
A progressive approach will allow to achieve the right state of flow in order to improve mobility, breathing and circulation while strengthening muscles, tendons and ligaments.
Yoga with Perumal lessons progress from the least challenging/ simple to the most challenging/dynamic postures during a lesson. The same theme runs through the retreat as a whole. The level we go to is determined by the group that is attending. The idea is to peak in the last days of the retreat.
All lessons are designed to lead into the next lesson. The goal is also not to practice too strong otherwise the nervous system will react to tighten the body, injuries could easily inflamed and the body would not open itself up. The key is to make the body open itself up.
Perumal's method adapts to the moment with a strong attention kept on the ones who have specific problems or injuries. The first lesson usually avoids all things that may lead to pain. Please know that the same posture which will heal also can inflame a problem if approached without consciousness.
A result is felt immediately after the first lesson which creates motivation. Usually after the third night, participants experience a breakthrough in the practice and physical wellness that is measurable and often expressed. Some practitioners finally stop feeling an old shoulder or back pain that bothered them for years. Others accomplish postures for the first time that they always had trouble doing back home. This has to do with not only the method of yoga we are practicing but also the program as a whole.
The program does emphasize an easy and light form of intermittent fasting to help detox and alkalize the body. Mornings are a time for cleansing by drinking plenty of sugar free and caffeine free fluids to enhance the detoxification of the body. This first hours of the morning are paramount to cleansing the body. No solid food shall be eaten until after the morning practice.
A detoxifying practice session. Remove the head and limbs of the body and what remains are much of the core muscles. On this session we focus on the back and abdominal muscles in order to stabilize / activate our core. This series sets the foundation to limb based postures. The uses of deep abdominal breathing exercises along with joint preparations sets are also emphasized.
Hips, gluteus, hamstrings, quads and calves are well used. Postures range from lightning / chair, double warrior, Warrior 1-3, heel raises and various balancing sequences. Most with lower back issues will benefit greatly while others will feel a fluid yet challenging series.
Focuses on upper body postures in order to train the shoulders, chest and arms. These postures will range from plank, side plank, single leg plank and crow to chaturanga along with their variations. There is a strong emphasis on preparation for joints followed by isometric and then isotonic movements synchronized with breath.
Depth of progression into a sequence depends on the individual or group. Above sample sessions divide lessons to focus on specifics areas. This enables progression without overtraining. Additional sessions include pranayama and meditation and combining sessions with Vinyasa flow.
Please be advised that 2 yoga classes daily will be offered only if there are at least 2 people enroll the same date. If there is only 1 person enrolls, there will be only 1 yoga class per day.
The Mountain Retreat is a charter member of the National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World. It is situated 90 minutes from Marrakech, where Zen spirit and nature prevails, in the area of Imlil and it transmits a feeling of Tibet while in Morocco.
The venue, is so reminiscent of the Tibetan monasteries that it was chosen by Martin Scorsese as a location for his film Kundun, a movie about the Dalai Lama’s early years, as the venue and the surrounding scenery reflects the Tibetan monastery Dungkar with the serenity of Tibet.
During this yoga retreat, daily breakfast and dinner included. The venue offers healthy and fresh local cuisine with vegetarian options. Juices and herbal teas are provided after the yoga sessions. Water is complementary and comes from the house own spring water fountain.

You can rest and relax. Spend 1hour in a Hammam treatment and/or a massage. The Hammam warms up the skin which helps to maximise the detox.
Your body will be then be washed with a black soap, 100% plant based and made from olive oil, ground olive pits and eucalyptus. This has the effect of nourishing, soothing and cleaning the skin. Followed by a scrub, whereby the body is rubbed with a sil spun yarn glove to exfoliate the skin and ro remove impurities. Your skin will be left feeling silky soft. Finally, your body will be enveloped in 'rassoul', a desert mineral softened with rose water. Which will soothe and moisturize your skin.
Asni is a large Berber village 30 minutes distance from the venue. Particularly popular on the day when it plays a beautiful and authentic Saturday market where all the inhabitants of the surrounding villages gather to trade wares of all types.
A journey offroad between fields of olive trees and through traditional berber villages, breathtaking views over the lush colourful landscape. We can organize a freshly prepared lunch for you along the road.
A day excursion to Marrakech and a guided walk through the Medina. Enjoy Marrakech and go for mint tea at the famous Place Jemaa el-Fna and sightseeing fabulous historical sites in the city. Not to miss are the Palais de la Bahia, the Medersa Ben Youssef, the moorish style 12 kilometers long town wall’s ancient ports build in 1126 (Bab ed-Debbarh and Bab Aguenaou), the Minaret of Koutoubia (Mosque build in 1158), the Ménara and Majorelle Gardens.
