The tutoring is tailor made for the personal needs and condition of the individual practitioner. Even within a large group.
A progressive approach will allow to achieve the right state of flow in order to improve mobility, breathing and circulation while strengthening muscles, tendons and ligaments.
Yoga with Perumal lessons progress from the least challenging/ simple to the most challenging/dynamic postures during a lesson. The same theme runs through the retreat as a whole. The level we go to is determined by the group that is attending. The idea is to peak in the last days of the retreat.
All lessons are designed to lead into the next lesson. The goal is also not to practice too strong otherwise the nervous system will react to tighten the body, injuries could easily inflamed and the body would not open itself up. The key is to make the body open itself up.
Perumal's method adapts to the moment with a strong attention kept on the ones who have specific problems or injuries. The first lesson usually avoids all things that may lead to pain. Please know that the same posture which will heal also can inflame a problem if approached without consciousness.
A result is felt immediately after the first lesson which creates motivation. Usually after the third night, participants experience a breakthrough in the practice and physical wellness that is measurable and often expressed. Some practitioners finally stop feeling an old shoulder or back pain that bothered them for years. Others accomplish postures for the first time that they always had trouble doing back home. This has to do with not only the method of yoga we are practicing but also the program as a whole.
The program does emphasize an easy and light form of intermittent fasting to help detox and alkalize the body. Mornings are a time for cleansing by drinking plenty of sugar free and caffeine free fluids to enhance the detoxification of the body. This first hours of the morning are paramount to cleansing the body. No solid food shall be eaten until after the morning practice.
A detoxifying practice session. Remove the head and limbs of the body and what remains are much of the core muscles. On this session we focus on the back and abdominal muscles in order to stabilize / activate our core. This series sets the foundation to limb based postures. The uses of deep abdominal breathing exercises along with joint preparations sets are also emphasized.
Hips, gluteus, hamstrings, quads and calves are well used. Postures range from lightning / chair, double warrior, Warrior 1-3, heel raises and various balancing sequences. Most with lower back issues will benefit greatly while others will feel a fluid yet challenging series.
Focuses on upper body postures in order to train the shoulders, chest and arms. These postures will range from plank, side plank, single leg plank and crow to chaturanga along with their variations. There is a strong emphasis on preparation for joints followed by isometric and then isotonic movements synchronized with breath.
Depth of progression into a sequence depends on the individual or group. Above sample sessions divide lessons to focus on specifics areas. This enables progression without overtraining. Additional sessions include pranayama and meditation and combining sessions with Vinyasa flow.
Please be advised that 2 yoga classes daily will be offered only if there are at least 2 people enroll the same date. If there is only 1 person enrolls, there will be only 1 yoga class per day.
Mr. Koshy born in New Delhi of South Indian parents began teaching under his Kung-Fu master. After over 10 years of martial arts he began exploring yoga by returning to his roots in Kerala, India. From here a yoga teaching experience grew through London (2001 - 2004), Milan (2006 - 2010) and Marrakech (2010 - Present). His yoga method, recognized by various international yoga journals, lead to him authoring articles for Italian, French and Dutch yoga magazines.
This yoga retreat within the Palmeraie of Marrakech is a lush garden landscaped by leading ethnobotanist and husband of Meryanne Professor Gary Martin. Meryanne a reputed pioneer in Marrakech tourism for over 20 years has hosted numerous guests. Under a seasoned foundation a spirit of nostalgia and timelessness soaks the atmosphere from old guests.

A hearty meal will be provided after the morning and evening yoga sessions. Yoga with Perumal use fresh, ingredients sourced from our own organic gardens. Every delectable delight is an aromatic, visually appetizing and delicious. Their Moroccan cuisines are a succulent twist of spice that is north African with the lightness of contemporary Mediterranean cookery. They offer vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.

We offer individual cooking classes with our house chef Bahija. You may learn how to make a number of classic Moroccan savory dishes. Instructions in classical dishes of Moroccan cuisine range from B'stilla made from fish and preserved lemon to lamb tagine with tomatoes and caramelized spring onions, roasted pepper, cucumber and tomato salad. Of course let us not forget desserts such as spiced pears with oranges and caramel sauce. You will chop, roast and grind your way through a cooking experience under Bahija an authentic Moroccan cook.
Angela Forest is the massage therapist available on demand. She is an Italian graduated shiatsu therapist with 26 years of expertise in energetic techniques for the psychological and physical well-being such as shiatsu, manual lymphodrainage (method Vodder) as well as harmony massage.
Horse riding lessons are also available at an additional cost.
The Hammam, a variant of a steam bath, is considered a wet relative of the sauna. They have played an important role in cultures of the Middle-East, serving as places of social gathering and ritual cleansing. Our serene Hammam will prepare your senses to receive a holistic treatment for beauty, relaxation or therapy. All treatments are under a beautifully hand crafted ceiling with a decor reflecting an African design carefully blended with Arabian influences. Hammam is reserved through our facilities in the neighboring Douar Abiad.
Take the Route de Fs out of town and turn left on the Circuit de la Palmeraie.
After passing the Decameron hotel (Club Issil) on the right, and the Palmier dOr on the left, continue until you find a paved road to your right where you will see various signs, including Douar Abiad, Le Murano and Les Deux Tours.
Turn off on this road, which will take you through the village of Douar Abiad; continue straight for about 300 meters to the walled garden with many palm trees.
Go through the green gate on your left and you will have arrived at Jnane Tamsna.
The drive will take 15 - 20 minutes, depending on your starting point in Marrakech.
