Each part following in the order listed acts as a synergist to the other.

The tutoring is tailor made for the personal needs and condition of the individual practitioner. Even within a large group.

A progressive approach will allow to achieve the right state of flow in order to improve mobility, breathing and circulation while strengthening muscles, tendons and ligaments.

Yoga with Perumal lessons progress from the least challenging/ simple to the most challenging/dynamic postures during a lesson. The same theme runs through the retreat as a whole. The level we go to is determined by the group that is attending. The idea is to peak in the last days of the retreat.

All lessons are designed to lead into the next lesson. The goal is also not to practice too strong otherwise the nervous system will react to tighten the body, injuries could easily inflamed and the body would not open itself up. The key is to make the body open itself up.

Perumal's method adapts to the moment with a strong attention kept on the ones who have specific problems or injuries. The first lesson usually avoids all things that may lead to pain. Please know that the same posture which will heal also can inflame a problem if approached without consciousness.

A result is felt immediately after the first lesson which creates motivation. Usually after the third night, participants experience a breakthrough in the practice and physical wellness that is measurable and often expressed. Some practitioners finally stop feeling an old shoulder or back pain that bothered them for years. Others accomplish postures for the first time that they always had trouble doing back home. This has to do with not only the method of yoga we are practicing but also the program as a whole.

The program does emphasize an easy and light form of intermittent fasting to help detox and alkalize the body. Mornings are a time for cleansing by drinking plenty of sugar free and caffeine free fluids to enhance the detoxification of the body. This first hours of the morning are paramount to cleansing the body. No solid food shall be eaten until after the morning practice.

Core series

A detoxifying practice session. Remove the head and limbs of the body and what remains are much of the core muscles. On this session we focus on the back and abdominal muscles in order to stabilize / activate our core. This series sets the foundation to limb based postures. The uses of deep abdominal breathing exercises along with joint preparations sets are also emphasized.

Leg series

Hips, gluteus, hamstrings, quads and calves are well used. Postures range from lightning / chair, double warrior, Warrior 1-3, heel raises and various balancing sequences. Most with lower back issues will benefit greatly while others will feel a fluid yet challenging series.

Arm and shoulder series

Focuses on upper body postures in order to train the shoulders, chest and arms. These postures will range from plank, side plank, single leg plank and crow to chaturanga along with their variations. There is a strong emphasis on preparation for joints followed by isometric and then isotonic movements synchronized with breath.

Depth of progression into a sequence depends on the individual or group. Above sample sessions divide lessons to focus on specifics areas. This enables progression without overtraining. Additional sessions include pranayama and meditation and combining sessions with Vinyasa flow.

Please be advised that 2 yoga classes daily will be offered only if there are at least 2 people enroll the same date. If there is only 1 person enrolls, there will be only 1 yoga class per day.

  • Perumal Koshy

    Mr. Koshy born in New Delhi of South Indian parents began teaching under his Kung-Fu master. After over 10 years of martial arts he began exploring yoga by returning to his roots in Kerala, India. From here a yoga teaching experience grew through London (2001 - 2004), Milan (2006 - 2010) and Marrakech (2010 - Present). His yoga method, recognized by various international yoga journals, lead to him authoring articles for Italian, French and Dutch yoga magazines.

This yoga retreat will take place in Marrakech, Morocco.

A large Kaidal tent nourishes guests with a mix of traditional Moroccan delights and authentic Italian cuisines. A hearty meal will be provided after the morning and evening yoga sessions. Vegetarian options are available.

    CONS Cons: My only comment I would have loved some fish dishes at dinner, but the food was amazing and always so fresh so I cant complain.

    PROS Pros: My time at the Kasbah Du Toubkal and with Perumal Koshy was pure tranquility. From the moment I arrived, the staff where so accommodating and always on hand if I needed anything. Perumal greeted me with a very warm welcome and told me about the few days of yoga to come. I had started my practice of yoga about two years ago and only really doing Ashtanga I was a bit on edge to try a different style., but I can say after my few days with Perumal his approach to yoga and his method have made me a stronger person. the difference in my practice at the end of the week was amazing. I would highly recommend both the yoga and the accommodation for anyone looking to escape life for a few days, pure tranquility.

    CONS Cons: we did not feel that Perumal had the right personality type to host a retreat at a destination of this quality. we found him to be egocentric and more concerned about himself than making us (his clients) fulfilled. we expected the class to be tailored to our needs (it was just the 2 of us) but he refused to step away from his rigid program.

    PROS Pros: the Kasbah, the local people, the food and hiking were exceptional

    Organizer response: Perumal's program is tailor made for the personal needs and condition of the individual practitioners. What you call a rigid program is a progressive and meticulous approach to improve the practitioners mobility, breathing and circulation while strengthening muscles, tendons and ligaments. The lessons progress from the least challenging to the more dynamic postures during a lesson. Perumal's method - preparation and foundation of a practise - is well recognized by the international yoga press. The editors in chief of Yoga Journal Italy, Esprit Yoga France, Yoga Magazine Holland are very keen to practise with Perumal. And after they did they decided to publish more on his method and many of his sequences. The editor-in-chief has the final say on what gets published in the journals and magazines. I think that they are more experts in the matter and more reliable than you giving such a harsh and unpleasant judgement. Many retreat practitioners stopped feeling a pain that bothered them for years. Others accomplish postures for the first time that they always had trouble doing back home. This has to do certainly with the method of yoga Perumal teaches. Normally when you go for a yoga retreat your mindset has to be open enough to surrender to the teachers's method and program to get the best out of it. If you close yourself and try to play the teachers role, than certainly you can not get anywhere far.

    "I stayed 3 nights at the resort Jnane Allia at Marrakesh. After the manager himself picked me up at the airport he gave me a short sightseeing tour through Marrakech while we were driving to the resort. It was a warm welcome and I felt comfy very easily. After the check in with lovely and refreshing mint tea I was served an amazing dinner with three courses. I actually thought that this will be just for the first night but no this amazing dinner is every evening. You get served meat every day which was fine for 3 days for me but it would have been no problem to switch to a vegetarian meal even shortly or during dinner time. The waiter Ayoub who’s there the whole day makes your stay even more amazing. It doesn’t matter what you want he brings it for you - he even rescued me from a spider :) All the people at Jnane Allia are very very nice and friendly. I met the owner and his wife at my last day while he took me to town-they are both super nice as well!!!"

    "The Yoga lessons are in the morning before breakfast and in the evening before dinner. I like the concept of doing yoga in the morning an then having a big breakfast then do whatever you like and do yoga again and eat afterwards. I did Yoga before but after the stay I understand more the Yoga and the different levels or why you should not do this but do that etc. Perumal is a great teacher who explains a lot and I loved the little talks we’ve had after every session. I still do Yoga every morning, of course not 1,5 hours but I do a few breathing techniques and a few postures he showed us which helps me to start a the busy day :) I’m really thankful that I went there and I will definitely come back again-next time 1 week cause 3 days are too short :)"

    "The yoga teaching by Perumal was exceptional. He very quickly became aware of the ability of the group and tailored the classes so that we all got the maximum out of each session. Jnane Alia is a grat setting for a yoga retreat very peaceful and beautifully designed. Unfortunately the hotel part was a little like Fawlty Towers or the Best Exotic Marigold Hotel with fairly amateurish service which did not really align with the concept of a retreat Basically it was great yoga in a fantastic location with poor service and no real attempt to provide healthy food. The food was delicious but as a retreat.my expectation would be some effort to provide very healthy food. To summarise we enjoyed it because the yoga was so good, likewise the location but for the price I also feel that we shold have also received exceptional service."

    "I had a great time on this retreat. It wasn't exactly what I thought it was going to be - I ended up going alone, and there was no one else in the hotel to chat to - but in terms of yoga, I felt I progressed so much and Ines and Perumal were incredibly kind and generous in ensuring I had a good time! I would definitely do something like this again - it did exactly what I needed it do, chilled me out so I was ready to go back into the office with new eyes.     "From start to finish my experience of the yoga retreat was exactly as I would wish. I was picked up, as arranged, in Marrakech for transfer to Jnane Allia where I was greeted warmly, made to feel both welcome, and comfortable. My room was large, comfortable, had a door which opened onto a patio, and out onto the terrace with pool. Yoga classes twice daily at 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. were tailored specifically to the experience level of the group. The teacher was patient, informative, but most importantly, extremely proficient in yoga. His dedication, knowledge, and understanding of yoga made my experience educational, encouraged me to learn, and practice more. Food at Jnane Allia was superb: delicious Moroccan cuisine, plentiful, and each day delivered by polite and friendly staff who could not do enough for us. Indeed everyone I met was gracious, sensitive to the needs of their guests, and keen to ensure the whole experience was the peaceful, relaxing, and yoga enriching retreat that it should be."

    "I booked a weeks yoga retreat at Jnane Allia at the end of March. The plan was to escape the tale end of winter in the UK and return home fitter and stronger. I have to say that all I hoped for was delivered, with the temperature hovering around 25 to 30 degrees and the exceptional yoga provided by Perumal. Although I'm a yoga novice, I felt I had improved during the week, found some of that strength I was looking for and gained an enthusiasm to keep the yoga going on my return. Jnane Allia itself is peaceful and relaxing, set in lovely gardens with 8 stylish Moroccan villas set around a beautiful pool. The evening yoga session in the garden was a highlight, with the sun slipping down behind the palm trees and faint call to prayer from the mosk in a nearby village....I hope to return."

    "The yoga retreat with Perumal was an amazing experience. Perumal is a very professional teacher and the yoga classes are both strengthening and relaxing, I improved my yoga quite a lot, in the 6 days, I was there. We sometimes did our afternoon yoga on the rooftop, while the sun was setting over the Atlas Mountains. Absolutely beautiful. I give Yoga with Perumal my best recommandations, and I can't wait to go again. Jnane Allia is a beautiful tranquil place and therefore it gives you the possibility to relax in beautiful surroundings, and with only 20 minutes of transport to beautiful, colourful and hectic Marrakech, it is the perfect place to stay. Staff was very helpfull."

    "Yoga-Tastic,I have just returned from a wonderful 3 night stay at Jnane Allia. The primary purpose to stay here was for Yoga with Perumal: 2 daily sessions of yoga each day while staying in a more rural retreat just outside Marrakech centre.The accommodation was comfortable: large clean rooms opening onto a patio with pool beyond. The food was fresh Moroccan dishes (brunch + dinner) that were plentiful + fabulous quality. All staff were excellent- friendly, obliging + intent on ensuring a pleasant + relaxing stay. That's exactly what I got!"

    "Beautiful, Beautiful & Peaceful Retreat. I recently spent a wonderfully peaceful week at Jnane Allia. Jnane Allia was the only place that I came across during hours of searching on line that ticked ALL of my many boxes - quiet surroundings, not many people, Yoga, sunshine, good swimming pool, great food, option to have a small drink, easy airport transfers, a touch of WiF and feeling safe. Obviously I read the reviews - and the booking communication was very efficient - so I felt pretty hopeful that it would deliver in reality .....and it did! Jnane Allia's grounds are beautiful - incredibly lush and lovingly tended. There are only 8 villas at the retreat so it was perfect for someone like me who doesn't like to be around too many people. The pool was a good size - bigger and deeper than the disappointing pools you get at many hotels. I was happy that Jnane Allia's pool was big enough to do a decent length in. Sitting by the pool reading in the large and comfortable loungers was lovely and relaxing but if you need to do 'something' with your day then Jnane Allia's yoga sessions (which are an optional add on) are scheduled perfectly at 9am and 4.30pm daily and break up the day very well, making you feel that you have 'earned' your hours by the pool! I also liked that the morning yoga wasn't at a crazy early hour and allowed for a reasonable lie in. Yoga teacher Perumal is great and clearly incredibly passionate about the practice. The sessions covered both relaxation and strength work - and I really like that the sessions were challenging (although still suitable for beginners) and that you really felt like you had worked. Food was great - very tasty, very varied and lots of it - you could also have a drink if you wanted. The masseuses were great, the transfers went like clock work...I could go on....but suffice to say that I couldn't fault it."

By coincidence, I found the Yoga class of the team Perumal and Ines in Morocco by website. Although it took a long hours to go to Morocco from Japan, we had wonderful experiences in Morocco owing to Perumal and Ines."

We have been to multiple yoga retreats and yours is the most memorable, refined and educational one we have been to yet!     "I was lucky enough to be introduced to Perumal in Marrakech during a one-week stay at Jnane Tamsna. I had a one hour session with him every day for a week, and it really got me back into yoga. I have done yoga for years, but due to small children and too much work I handt practiced for a few years. The trip to Marrakech was supposed to be the start of a new life; with more yoga, less stress, and more love and greatfullness. High goals! But it worked! Perumals soft being and spiritual presence was just what I needed. During that one week we built up a good basic program for me to continue working on when I got back home, so it is really something that you easily can add into your everyday life very easily. I am extremely thankful to Perumal for the gift he gave me."

    "The yoga retreat with Perumal inspired me to really start practicing yoga in my daily life. I practiced some yoga before, but was never inspired to also wanting to learn more about yoga, nor to improve. Some people just know how to trigger you with their personality and the way they teach. Perumal is one of them. I was lucky to have had one to one attention in a beautiful environment, which also contributes to be inspired. Before and during the retreat I subconsciously knew I had to fit in yoga in my daily life, but it was after I had left I realized I was missing my daily practice with Perumal. While at home I am still practicing with the online course! This is how I feel. When I was a teenager I used to play tennis on sub national level. I have had several trainers, and I still remember clearly the one who got me back on my feet after some years of not having any fun at all. It was his personality and his way. I am sensitive to that. I compared the retreat and Perumal with that time. I needed the retreat. I hadnt have a proper holiday for some time and also had a rough time in my personal (lost 3 people I loved dearly within 3 years, the last one was my mother almost 2 years ago) as well as in my professional life (many changes because of one of the 2 other losses). When I booked the retreat life was starting to get better, but I was exhausted. Still I enjoyed the yoga practice, was even looking forward to it (I know myself as lazy) and I managed to speak English at one moment and French the other. I was not used to that and I just loved it all. I believe that everything has its right time (even the losses). For me the retreat with Perumal was right timing and it gave me a boost. After 2 years of pause I found the play button again and I am grateful for that. "

The combination of the constructive lessons with Perumal and the peaceful rest in a beautiful environment are an ideal way to escape some time from the daily grind and to charge the batteries. Perumals yoga style fits me because it brings my body to a higher level without forcing anything.     "Great hospitality and awesome accomodations! I truly enjoyed my stay at this nice secluded accommodation. I stayed here for four days for yoga retreat with Perumal. The food was wonderful, hammam was great and secluded location was the best to get away from the city. The staff was extremely attentive. The place was nice and clean.
