Khadine Morcom

Khadine came to yoga by chance in 1997 via a meditation course. The very first class she attended felt like it had found her! She knew that she was going to practice yoga from that moment on. From those very first classes Khadine became calmer, clearer happier and more embodied. It didn't take long for her yoga practice to become a daily ritual as she felt the benefits in body, mind and spirit.

She traveled to India for 6 months in 2003 and spent time exploring yoga in more depth, spending time at the Yoga Niketan Ashram in Rishikesh and practicing with many teachers all over India and returned in 2008 for further study. During the earlier trip she became really inspired and truly started to connect with yoga philosophy and teachings beyond just the physical asana practice. It also affirmed her desire to teach so on returning to the UK she trained with Jim Tarran (her teacher of several years and the founder of Vajrasati yoga) in the Vajrasati School of yoga and started teaching in 2004 and became fully qualified (Yoga Alliance 500 hours) in 2006. Khadine is now a Senior Teacher of the Vajrasati school and she assists training new students on the Vajrasati teacher training course. As she believes yoga is a constant journey of learning she continues to further her development with regular training with teachers such as Cathy-Mae Karelse, Judith Lasater, Sarah Powers, Donna Farhi and Paul Grilley.

Khadine’s teaching style is calming and focused with particular attention given to breath awareness and cultivation and recognition of energy and connection with our inner state of being. She uses dynamic and restorative, (and a whole range in-between) classical and modern postural yoga asanas to bring you towards yoga / integration. She teaches based on the Ashtanga (8 limbs - not to be confused with Astanga Vinyasa) path of yoga, incorporating yoga philosophy into her asana classes, and teaching other practices such as pranayama (breathing practices), dhyana (meditation) and mantra (chanting). Khadine is inspired by the Yoga Sutras of Patanajali and tantra texts such as the Vijnana Bhairava and the siva sutras and a mindfulness practice but she also takes inspiration from anything and everything from being a mother to being an environmentalist or just simply being a being in the world!

On the brow of Seaford Head, Sussex, sits Florence House set in 6 acres within an area of outstanding natural beauty on the edge of the South Downs National Park and has views of Seaford Head and Seaford Head Golf Course. In many ways its situation is a metaphor for its life’s purpose - a haven for the spirit however the wind blows. It’s a much loved venue for life enhancing workshops, retreats, weddings and conferences. In essence, it lovingly embraces divine inspiration, the sacredness and potential of each individual and the healing power of the landscape in which it sits.

Nestled at the bottom of the wild garden, The Florence House Yurt is an invaluable addition to the house providing a place of tranquility and peace. It is ideal for meditation and intimate gatherings complete with comfy cushions and a wood burning stove. There are magical places within the gardens and where guests can take advantage of these areas for activities, ceremonies and rituals as well as fun and games.

"Thank you for a lovely weekend it was just the break I needed & everything was just right. The setting was glorious, the weather perfect & I loved the food, even though I never eat that healthily normally! I especially enjoyed your classes & the quiet time it was bliss to just lie in the grass and gaze at the sky my soul really needed it. I love your classes, you have just the right touch and know intuitively when to push it & when postures need to be more nurturing. Thanks again for a great weekend."

"Khadine provided a wonderful balance of yoga, meditation, and breathing instruction and practice that went perfectly with the idyllic surroundings of Gayles. Little takes my mind out of the business of life like her teaching. We couldn't have wished for better weather, which allowed comfortable use of the pool, hammocks and footpaths, but even without this added bonus, it was a wonderful weekend."

"I'm still feeling the benefit of the retreat. I have been practicing yoga more regularly & with greater awareness. So that is incredibly positive. Thanks again for a wonderful weekend."

"I have also been meaning to drop an email anyway to say how wonderful, challenging, and transformative the Florence weekend was. Thanks so much for creating such a great space to come back to myself and set new and better patterns in motion in my life. I can't say every day is exactly zen! But I feel the mindfulness practice in particular that we did, has reminded me of / strengthened my "anchor" inside."

"I wanted to email you anyway to say a huge THANK YOU for another fantastic weekend, it really was blissful. I arrived with earache, headache, period pain and it all faded away during the weekend, and I felt incredibly nourished. I enjoyed it even more than last year. of all those incredible deep and wonderful restorative/yin postures...they are so fantastic. It came just at the right time . I've been coping much better than I normally would and I'm sure its partly down to the lovely weekend I had. The weather was perfect too this year...I feel very blessed to have been part of such a lovely gathering of beautiful women with you leading us all."

"I just wanted to thank you again for the most amazing weekend, I was chatting to J today and we both felt that it was one of the best times we have ever had, with the combination of the beautiful surroundings, wonderful yoga and delicious cakes! I feel really privileged to have been there, you are such an inspiring teacher and I came home feeling totally relaxed and rejuvenated. I am doing my best to carry what I have experienced with me and be mindful and peaceful as I go back to everyday life!"

"I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you again as well as your students for making me feel welcome at the retreat back in August, and you would be pleased to know that all me work colleagues and customers alike have noticed a massive change in my character in that I am now much calmer and more resilient than before. I now practice the meditation you taught me every day including chanting some of the Sanskrit mantras, and the candle flame concentration exercise was amazing."
