Yogamagic Eco Retreat is an oasis of tranquility amid the coconut palms of Anjuna, Goa, India.
With wooden beams, exposed stone walls, and clay tiles, the Maharaja and Maharani suites are part of the main house sharing a large garden veranda and have an earthy, "castle" feel about them.
Yogamagic Eco Retreat's bamboo-thatched eco-lodge provides shade over a luxurious Rajasthani hunting tent with two adjoining rooms built from mud, stones, and coconut wood. Colorful saris drape the elevated palm-fringed roofs, keeping the lodges cool with natural cross-ventilation, while a private veranda, hand molded from baked mud and cow dung, has sunset views and lean back chairs for daydreaming, star gazing, or moon bathing.
In the mornings, you will be taught Dynamic flow that combines the integrity, precision, and alignment of Iyengar with the mindful movement and breath awareness of Vinyasa. The afternoon sessions will vary and may include Restorative, Nidra, playing with inversions, and movement meditation. This program is beneficial for beginners and experienced practitioners alike, as the techniques used can be both calming and challenging.
Jaya now lives and works in London and periodically leads retreats abroad. She teaches a Dynamic flow style that combines the integrity, precision, and alignment of Iyengar with the mindful movement and breath awareness of Vinyasa. Her techniques tend to suit students of varying abilities, as they can be both calming and challenging. Most importantly, she creates a safe and nurturing environment that encourages self-discovery and non-competitiveness. She is particularly skilled at one-on-one adjustments.
This retreat will be held in Goa, India. From the lush green hills of the western ghats in the east to the golden tropical sands in the west, Goa is the smallest state in India - just 20 to 30 miles wide and home to over 60 miles of palm-fringed coastline. Colonized by the Portuguese for over 450 years, Goa once more became a part of India in 1961.
Today, the towns and villages reflect that Mediterranean influence, mingled with the exotic magic of India. This is apparent in both the architecture and the world-famous Goan cuisine. There's a beach in Goa to suit every taste. Lounge in the sun, enjoy water sports, or explore further afield to find solitude and tranquility.
There's more to Goa than seaside sun worship. Inland the fertile hills and valleys are studded with colorful temples and grand churches depicting the rich and diverse cultural heritage. Adventuring is safe and simple, and local people are both friendly and helpful. The main languages spoken in Goa are Hindi and Konkani, although English is widely understood.
The pace of life is relaxed and, thanks to the hippies "discovering" Goa in the 1960s, the tourist infrastructure caters for western needs. Thankfully, however, Goa retains much of the charm that initially drew people here.
Brunches and dinners will be served, although one evening meal is not included. You can try out Yogamagic Eco Retreat's fare for other meals.
Food at Yogamagic is simply delicious, organic where possible, and increasingly home grown as their gardens develop. Everything is cooked lovingly by local girls with plenty of freshly picked herbs, spices, and coconut milk. It starts early morning with chai or ground coffee delivered to your veranda.
Eat as much fresh tropical fruit as you can, some of it grown by Yogamagic, with creamy home-made buffalo curd, wild honey, and wholesome muesli. If you are still hungry, follow up with a cooked dish, eggs done in many ways, or a local puri bhaji. Drink juices, lassis and shakes, or fresh organic coffee and teas.
Eat lunch by the pool or in the shady tower restaurant. Take your pick of pitta pockets, raw salad, or dhal of the day. Lunch is not included in the price.
Eat dinner on low cushions in candlelight or at tables by the pool. Exotic vegetarian east-meets-west thalis or banana leaf spreads bursting with flavors, every night a different menu, a different experience - each meal is always a surprise.
Every juice is lovingly prepared to order, and lassies are created using locally sourced buffalo milk and curd. Coffee is organic, and chai comes western style or masala. A range of herbal teas is also available. Please note that some drinks are at an extra cost.
Massage service to relax your body is available on site at an additional cost.
Please book your flight to arrive at Goa International Airport (GOI). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request. Transfer may cost around 15 GBP.
