Yoga Holiday in Spain

Enjoy a cozy house in Madrid's mountain area. You will stay in a simple but cozy rural house in a homely environment shared with the host, with two double bedrooms for the guests.

The common areas include a kitchen, a living room (which is also used as a yoga shala), a fully equipped bathroom, a big balcony, and a terrace with a chill-out area. Free Wi-Fi is available in the whole house and there is a television in the rooms that you can use for streaming.

The double rooms feature a double bed and can be booked by two persons traveling together (couples, friends, etc.) or for individual use. This means that there can be between one and four persons in the house at the time.

Program

Overview

The retreat is open to everyone (solo travelers, couples, friends, and family members), and is of course LGBTQ-friendly. There is a maximum of four guests per program because of limited space, and also in order to keep an intimate atmosphere and ensure that full individual attention can be given during the classes.

The asana (physical) practice will be based on the Iyengar yoga method, while there can be influences from other lineages in the mental practice. Each class will begin with taking awareness (e.g. visualization or meditation exercise) and end with relaxation.

Every day, there will be a different focus - for instance, standing poses, forward bends, backbends, inversions, or restorative practice. There will also be pranayama and yoga Nidra sessions, as well as some yoga philosophy sessions.

How your days will look like:

The retreats start every Tuesday and finish every Sunday during the season. On your arrival day, there will be an afternoon yoga class followed by dinner. The rest of the days will start with a yoga class followed by breakfast (except on Thursday when you have the day off to visit Madrid or do other activities). If the guests want to, a little morning meditation can be held on that day.

During the day, you will be free to go trekking (one day there will be a guided tour), receive a shiatsu or relaxing massage (therapists available on request), visit the local swimming pool (June to September), or relax.

In the afternoon / evening, there will be a second yoga / meditation / pranayama class followed by dinner (except on the day off and on Friday or Saturday, during which you will be free to try one of the restaurants in the village while you enjoy the atmosphere found especially during the summer months when the center of the village is full of life).

On the departure day, there will be a morning yoga class followed by breakfast.

The schedule is adaptable and guests will be free to participate in as many activities as they'd like to as well as to skip any of them. This is a holiday and it's understandable that sometimes, you might just want to chill and have some time off.

Please note that shorter stays could be organized if requested (according to availability) and that there are also 1-1 options available.

Included excursions

On one day, you will go by car to the nearby village Manzanares el Real (Pedriza National Park), 20 minutes' drive from Miraflores. From there, you will do a one and a half-hour trek to Charca Verde where you can take a break, put your feet in the fresh water, and eat a sandwich before you trek back. Total time will be four to five hours.

Nearby the house, you can find "Gruta de Begoña," a sanctuary which is one of the most visited places in Miraflores. It's a perfect place to go and sit for meditation, especially during the weeks when there are less tourists. The host will show you how to get there, so that you can go by yourself at any moment during the week.

Only 50 kilometers north of Madrid, in a privileged enclave of outstanding natural and ecological value, you will find Miraflores de la Sierra - part of the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park, as well as the Cuenca Alta del Manzanares Regional Park (a protected natural area declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO).

Located close to the mountain slopes of the Najarra, and on the southern slopes of the Pico de la Pala, at a height of 1,150 meters, it is the ideal starting point for many routes through the Guadarrama mountains.

The unparalleled environment of Miraflores, together with its climate, landscapes, natural resources, and its exceptional gastronomy, make it a privileged place for the visitor to enjoy.

During the summer months, Madrid City reaches many times a temperature of 40ºC, while Miraflores generally has a more pleasant weather with up to seven to eight degrees less, and in the evening, there is always a gentle breeze.

Surrounded by the largest vineyard in the Community of Madrid, this small valley is ideal for discovering corners that invite you to walk, both inside the village and in nature, with local trails on foot or by bike, enjoying outdoor sports (horseback riding, paragliding) and observing flora and fauna. It is an unbeatable destination for hikers, cyclists, or fans of active tourism.

But not everything is nature in Miraflores de la Sierra, those who want to enjoy the long and rich cultural tradition of the mountain town will find a wide cultural heritage there. There are also a lot of bars and restaurants to enjoy Spanish food and drinks, as well as vineyards not too far away.

Food

A healthy breakfast will be included every day. Typically, you will have oat porridge or overnight oats with fruits and / or berries, fresh juice or smoothie, tea or coffee, and homemade bread.

Dinner is also included, except for the day off (Thursday) and on Friday or Saturday night, when you will be free to try some of the many restaurants in the village. Dinner examples are Ayurvedic kichari, vegetarian lasagna, detox Moroccan lentil soup, quinoa salad, pasta salad, gazpacho or salmorejo, and yogurt or fruit for dessert.

Most of the meals will be served outside, on one of the two terraces. Tea, coffee, and water will be available at any moment.

Please inform the host if you have any food allergy or intolerance. The meals will be mainly gluten-free and vegetarian, but can be adapted to vegans or to include eggs or tuna if requested by the guests.

Also, there are several supermarkets within walking distance where you can buy your lunch or other supplies you might need.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

The closest airport is Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport (MAD) at a distance of 41 kilometers, and the easiest way to get from the airport to the location is by taxi, Uber, or the pickup / drop service Yoga with Ida offers you (40 to 45 minutes and 50 EUR for the service or 70 EUR for a taxi).

Arrival by train or bus

If you arrive in Madrid by train or bus or if you prefer public transport from the airport, you'll need to take the metro to Plaza de Castilla (if arriving at terminal T4, there is also a train that you will need to combine with metro).

From Plaza de Castilla, take bus number 725 (one hour) and the bus stop is "Gruta de Begoña," a one-minute walk from the house. Total time will be one and a half to two hours, depending on the connections.

Arrival by car

If you drive to Miraflores, you will need to turn left where you see the sign "Gruta de Begoña," and the house is the first one you will see in the first curve. There is a possibility to park just between the road and the house.
