Rote Island is a beautiful, untouched island with crystal clear ocean water to enjoy your yoga holiday. A perfect getaway where wellness and relaxation will come together. If your ideal holiday includes morning yoga beside a breathtaking beach, healthy food, afternoon relaxation, perfect sunset meditation, and afternoon yoga session then this is a holiday you should not miss.
Built by craftsmen from Java and Rote with locally quarried stone, exposed regional hardwoods and traditional Rotenese alang roofs the design and architecture of all facilities at Nemberala Beach Resort, match the traditional feel of the region. The four large duplex bungalows are nicely appointed and each feature private and spacious outdoor bathrooms, porches and views of the pool, ocean and surf breaking on the outer reef.
The villas are duplex units; meaning each unit houses two rooms (each with private bathroom) that can be joined by an interior door to accommodate families or groups of friends traveling together, or kept closed for privacy. Rooms can be set up as king or twin or by specific request where children or triple occupancy may be accommodated.
Each room is cooled by two large ceiling fans as well as natural land or sea breezes flowing through the louvered windows. Each unit is furnished with bedside tables, lamps, large free standing closet, seating and luggage stand.
At this point the units are not equipped with water heaters. Each unit has a large raised water tank feeding the shower and sink warmed by the sun, so we refer to the water temperature as Island temperature. Both bath and beach towels are provided for your convenience and rooms are serviced daily.
Together with Nemberala Beach Resort, Carlotta has prepared this perfect yoga holiday where you will experience wellness and relaxation. Located on the beautiful Rote Island in southern Indonesia, this newly renovated resort caters to surfers, fisherman, yoga retreat seekers and their families. Here you will be practicing a fun Vinyasa flow class everyday followed by breathing techniques and alignment. Each class is designed to improve your practice with basic poses and creative sequencing no matter what your level is. This retreat will let you find time for your yoga, briefly escape the city life and simply enjoy the beautiful nature.
Donna is the second largest of the three islands and is largely limestone. Each side of the island has pockets of beach tucked on coves bordered by rocky outcroppings. Local legend has it that Donna is haunted by villagers who were slain by feuding Rotanese and tossed into the shallow lake in the center of the island; aptly named Blood Lake. We believe this must be true as Donna is one of only a few small islands in the region that has clean easily acceptable well water, wild deer and horses yet remains uninhabited.
Donna has excellent walking trails and unbelievable shelling along its south coast. A small cove on the west coast provides a calm area for landing small craft, protected swimming, snorkeling, and more. As Donna is the southernmost island of Indonesia so there is a temporary military camp on the island to protect Indonesia from invasion from Australia to the south. It is necessary to check-in with the military post prior to arriving in Donna
Doo is the smallest of the three islands and comprised mostly of clean white sand and Pandanis trees. Doo probably offers the best snorkeling off its pristine beaches. Although largely uninhabited, nomadic fishermen will occasionally use the island as a base to fish the channel separating Doo from NDoa. An afternoon on Do'o will give you the feeling of being on your own deserted island, be sure to bring food and water.
Rote Island (Indonesian: Pulau Rote, also spelled Roti) is an island of Indonesia, part of the East Nusa Tenggara province of the Lesser Sunda Islands. It has an area of 1,200 km2 (463 sq mi). It lies 500 km (311 mi) northeast of the Australian coast and 170 km (106 mi) northeast of the Ashmore and Cartier Islands. The island is situated to the southwest of the larger island of Timor. To the north is the Savu Sea, and to the south is the Timor Sea. To the west is Savu and Sumba. The uninhabited Ndana island, just south of Rote, with an area of 14 km2 (5 sq mi), is the southernmost island of Indonesia. Along with some other nearby small islands, such as Ndao island, it forms the kabupaten (regency) of Rote Ndao Regency, which in 2010 decennial census recorded a population of 119,711.

"A tough review to write, as we'd rather keep news of this place to ourselves, but I really have to give credit and kudos when it's earned!9999 The surfer of the family was happy with the waves, local knowledge and service provided getting to the breaks, along with the available surfboards. The surfing widow was relaxed, replete and loved the day spa, casual atmosphere, live Sunday arvo music and entertaining conversations. The 8yo offspring was over the moon with the local kids, pool and the games room (even if we remain the worlds worst pool players). Great, substantial meals, genial management and wonderful staff all contributed to a wonderful holiday. Spotless rooms, very comfortable beds and very tidy, attractive grounds. It's a bit of a trek to get there and those intending to visit should bear in mind the location and region will dictate the facilities but as Queenslanders we coped happily with ceiling fans, coolish showers and no wi-fi. Management and staff were so welcoming and accommodating that we feel as though we have left with a whole group of wonderful new friends. Our entire family looks forward to returning to Nemberala Beach Resort."

"We had a wonderful 9 nights at NBR with a group of surfers, and myself (the wife) and enjoyed every aspect of our stay. NBR is very well run and caters so well for surfers. There are three boats and the resort is happy to take people out whenever they want to go, which is not the norm in similar places. That meant the guys could pick and choose the breaks and times they wanted to surf. And if someone was out during lunch then lunch was saved for them when they got back. Spare boards, board racks, paddle boards etc were also available free of charge. The rooms are lovely, clean, spacious and good beds. Some rooms don't have air con though so make sure you request one that does. The bathrooms are open air and fabulous and don't let the lack of hot water put you off, you really don't need it.The meals are simple, delicious and generous, made with local ingredients. The bar is well stocked and well-priced.With five local breaks there are waves for every tide and wind option. Some of the breaks did get busy but the resort does their best to find an empty wave. And if there is no surf there are bikes, kayaks, paddle boards etc to keep you entertained. The pool is so nice and I became very well acquainted with it.My husband and I have been to numerous surf resorts around the world and Nemberala would top the lot so far."

"Great spot, great service, great food! You get what you pay for and at NBR that means first class everything. From the moment I stepped onto the property, I was treated with excellent service. Greg, the manager, was especially helpful. As a surfer, he made sure I knew where to go and when to go, and his boats and boatmen were first rate, getting me to uncrowded waves almost every session. The other places had shoddier boats and guests told me they sometimes told them they would not take them to breaks other than Nembrala, even if that is how they had advertised. I fully recommend staying at NBR!"

"What an epic trip with 6 of my best mates. First 3 days we had no waves, but that was no problem since there was so much else to do on the island. We had wind the same 3 days when it was flat and had epic kitesurfing. We also SUP'ed to the nearby islands, went spearfishing, line fishing, and had plenty of fun chilling at the resort drinking Bintangs while watching the sun go down. The resort is fantastic, with great facilities, amazing food, and great hosts to make you feel at home and ensure that you are having a good time. It was nice not to break out the wallet until the end of the trip to pay for the Bintangs, as everything else is included.Only complaint is that the wave (whilst fantastic), is WAY too crowded - more crowded than any wave even in Bali!"

"I spent a weekend break in Rote and heard that Nemberala had the best beaches and Nemberala Resort was the place to stay. I was given the correct information. The rooms are great and all with an amazing ocean view. Swimming pool was just what I needed after a day spent out on the ocean fishing. When I was there it was clear, I forgot how many stars you can see. Awesome!Food is amazing and healthy, compliments to the kitchen staff, and they cooked up the fish I caught and it was shared among the guests. Spa was great, the girl giving me the massage was well trained and had a great smile.I'm not a surfer but will definitely come back for a relaxing week at my next opportunity as a weekend was not enough. They have everything you need, fishing, snorkeling, bikes, volleyball, pool, pingpong, and of course lots of surf boards and stand up paddle.Try this place it's really great."

"I was in this resort the week of Easter for a yoga retreat and was one of the best holidays of my life. The journey from Italy was very long but it is really true that the beauty of the adventure is just the journey. The resort is very nice, huge and welcoming and the staff polite and kind. The bungalows are very spacious and clean but I recommend you choose the ones with air conditioning if you suffer the heat. The Resort is located right on the water and offers sup board, kayak and surfboard. But the best thing was the Yoga Retreat organized by Carlotta and her husband Federico. The location is perfect and the atmosphere of calm and peace. Do yoga at sunrise and sunset was one of the most beautiful gifts that life could give me and Carlotta is an amazing teacher. The owner of the resort Greg and his family are people really hospitable and positive and it was a pleasure to be their guests. If you are looking for an exotic and wonderful place I recommend you to fly to Nemberala Beach Resort and try the wonderful experience of a yoga retreat and surf course."
