Accommodation ranges from simple en-suite beach huts, to stylish wooden eco-lodges and luxury adobe-style dwellings that are built in a beautiful palm grove and face towards the sea (which can be viewed from some of the upper-floor balconies).

The palm grove dwellings are built of local wood, giving an Asian feel with finishing touches borrowed from classical Indian design, with plenty of natural fabrics and antique Rajasthani furniture. The beach huts are simple yet chic.

All the rooms are spacious and comfortable with large windows and wonderful views. The en-suite bathrooms have been built to allow a little of the outside in, with large open window spaces and blinds. Each room has ample cupboard space and its own balcony with a charpoy daybed.

This opportunity in studying the chakras is to learn how to master each one's essence and unite them all into a unified field of luminescence. The material body could not exist without the chakras for they serve as gateways for the flow of energy and life into the physical body. The openness and flow of energy through the chakras determines our state of health and balance.

Knowledge of the more subtle energy system empowers you to maintain balance and harmony on the physical, mental, and spiritual level. All yoga systems seek to balance out the energy of the chakras by purifying the lower energies and guiding them upwards. Through the use of yoga and living consciously, with an awareness of how you acquire and spend your energy, you will become capable of balancing your life force with your mental, physical, and spiritual selves.


“Chakra” is a Sanskrit word literally meaning "wheel." These centers were named as such because of the circular shape to the spinning energy centers which exist in the subtle etheric body, the non-material energetic counterpart to the physical body. There are seven main chakras and they are located along the spine, extending out the front and back of the body.

Each chakra has a number of specific qualities that correspond to the refinement of energy from the base-level material self-identity, located at the first chakras, up to the higher vibration spirit-level awareness of being at the crown. These energetic centers represent the highest level of integration split, prism like, into a spectrum of colors.

Each chakra is associated with a certain part of the body and a certain organ which it provides with the energy it needs to function. Additionally, just as every organ in the human body has its equivalent on the mental and spiritual level, so too every chakra corresponds to a specific aspect of human behavior and development.

Each center has an integral function in creating our energetic balance. It is through the study of the energetic and physical being that you can create health, emotional stability, and spiritual bliss.


The yoga and activities offers you an access to deeper connection with the different dimensions of your being. Creating a safe place for you to relax, renew, and restore your energy. This deep work will support you to get in contact with your body and listen to it. Moving forward in your life, bringing into light the things are not aligned with your heart, allowing you to start creating new, supportive, and healthy habits.

You will leave the retreat with new tools to use in your daily life and a deeper knowledge of the seven main chakras, allowing you to step into your power and taking responsibility for what you manifest in your life.

Daily schedule

  • 07:00 Pranayama practice (breathing exercises)
  • 08:00 Asana practice (Vinyasa yoga). A dynamic yoga linking the movement with the breath. Every day you will focus in a different chakra in this yoga practice.
  • 10:00 Brunch buffet
  • Holistic therapy with Didier
  • 16:00 Afternoon session, focus in the theory of the chakras, with different activities related to the chakras, finishing with sharing from the heart circle.
  • 19:00 Dinner buffet
  • 20:15 Optional evening activity: documentary about chakras, Restorative yoga, chanting, meditation, etc.

Alicia Ruiz
British Wheel of Yoga (Hatha Yoga)
Alicia has been teaching since 2010. Her fascination with yoga and living in connection with the heart and nature is growing day by day. She has a very deep connection to shamanism and she works on a regular basis with Ali Calderwood and Daniela Broder known by Anima, supporting their amazing energy. She also works with Yogateam providing private yoga classes in London. Alicia is a fun and calm teacher. She has an advance 500-hour yoga teacher training and she is fully insured with British Wheel of Yoga to teach Hatha, Vinyasa yoga, Ashtanga, Gentle yoga, and yoga for children.
Didier Fernandes
Didier Fernandes was born in France. At the age of 15 years old, he moved to Northern Portugal where he experienced a wider contact with nature and a simpler form of living. He left his hometown in Portugal to work as a nurse. While working with cancer patients, he understood the importance of helping people to connect with themselves and to find their own voices in the world. Didier became interested in a more holistic approach to health. He studied many different techniques. This brought him to travel to different sacred places in the world.

Retreat location

The Ashiyana location offers a balance between the serenity of a coconut palm grove, bordered by the enchanting Mandrem River, and a beautiful quiet beach with the invigorating sound of the waves breaking against the shore just beyond the dunes.

Mandrem, a remote and sleepy fishing village in the north of Goa, has a number of restaurants, an internet cafe, a travel agent, a small organic shop, general grocery store, and places to rent motorbikes or hire taxis. Thirty minutes away by road is the large market town of Mapusa, which has good coach connections to other Indian towns and cities.

A pleasant 40-minute stroll (10 minutes by taxi) north along the beach is the lively and colorful village of Arambol. One of the main attractions to this distinctly 'hippy' hangout is the fresh-water lake separated from the sea by broad golden sands and it also has a post office, a small market, restaurants, and beach-front bars, some featuring live music. A southward stroll takes you along a quiet stretch of beach dotted with beach shacks and restaurants.

Daily brunch and dinner is included in the price. Ashiyana’s organic restaurant offers buffet meals with an excellent fusion of freshly-prepared Indian and western vegetarian cuisine. Breakfast-brunch includes home-made muesli or porridge with curd (yoghurt), coconut or milk, fresh fruit salad, plus a daily menu selected from the following - toast, butter, jam, scrambled eggs, dhal, rice, and other daily specials.

Fresh juice and teas are available. Fresh fish dishes are served once or twice a week. All water is filtered, including that used for cooking.

Things to do (optional)

There is plenty of time for sightseeing, swimming in the sea or pool, relaxation, or massage. Wednesday afternoon is free to explore the exciting Anjuna Market if you wish or simply to relax, having an India masala chai in the beach or in the natural pool.

Spa treatments

Extra holistic therapy can be booked on the retreat for an additional discounted price. This therapy would focus on yourself, using different body work and emotional release techniques.

How to get there

Arrival by airplane

International charter flights and national flights arrive at Goa Internal Airport in Goa (GOI). Transfer from and to this airport is available upon request. Pre-paid government taxis are available as you exit the airport terminal, or Yoga with Alicia can organize a local Mandrem taxi to collect you for approximately 1200 INR or 15 GBP. Overseas charter companies offer direct flights to Goa International Airport (GOI) in Goa. Fly from Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Kochin, and Chennai. For domestic flights, Yoga with Alicia recommends Deccan Air, Jet Airways, and Spice Jet.

Arrival by bus

The closest large town to Mandrem is Mapusa which has coach or bus connections to Mumbai, Bangalore, Mangalore, Mysore, Pune, and other tourist destinations. Mapusa is 25 minutes by taxi from Ashiyana.

Arrival by train

Goa has two main railway stations, Margao and Vasco da Gama. There are major connections to Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Rajkot, Thiruvananthapuram, and other nationwide destinations. The closest stations to Ashiyana are Pernem, Thivim, and Margao.
