The yoga retreat in Byron Bay is based on the classical teachings of yoga as taught by Swami Sivananda and the 5 points of yoga of Swami Vihnudevananda, as taught in the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Ashrams around the world for over 50 years. For those who are experienced, you will go deeper into the practice. If you are a beginner, you will learn step by step how to take yourself on this journey at your own pace.

About the retreat

Most people look to go on a yoga retreat so that they can relax and rejuvenate. There are many on offer with yoga classes, massages and with lots of free time to read and go to the beach or do whatever else the mind finds attractive or what it relates to relaxation. But did you know that relaxation is not really rejuvenating unless you can disconnect from your thoughts even for a few moments?

What most people do not realize is that yoga is a science, a science of body and more importantly of mind. This ancient science has been shared with us through the scriptures of yoga.

The yoga classes are taught in a specific way to maximize the movement of energy through the body, benefiting also the mind and the spirit. It cannot be intellectually created or randomly formed. In this way, the practitioner fully rejuvenates from the core of their being. The experience of a properly taught yoga class is not just one of exhilaration, blowing off steam after a hard days work, but there should be that feeling of complete balance. A feeling of lightness, that everything will be okay. The purpose of the retreat is so that you can experience the true essence of a yoga practice and understand what it means to do yoga.

You will learn what the benefits are of practicing all the aspects of yoga (thats right, yoga does not only mean physical postures). Yoga class

Based on the classical Sivananda yoga class structure: initial mantras, relaxation, pranayama or yogic breathing exercises, preparatory exercises, practice of classical Hatha yoga asanas, final relaxation and concluding mantras.

Satsang (group meditation)

To open your heart and elevate your emotions. We practice, silent meditation, kirtan and chanting of classical mantras, spiritual reading or interesting lecture on a yoga topic.

The yoga retreat is located in Byron Bay. This is the most easterly point of Australia. It is a mystical sacred land charged with uplifting spiritual vibrations used in the past by Aboriginals for rituals and still continues to draw an eclectic mix of modern day spiritual seekers. There are 40 kilometers of beautiful, clean beaches in this coastal region. Byron Bays' climate is sub-tropical.

The location of Tallow Beach House Retreats is set among a 30 acres sanctuary lined with 630 meters of Byron Bay's most beautiful beachfront and situated on the edge of the Arakwal National Park. It is a secluded oasis, away from the hustle and bustle of the city life, surrounded by breathtaking and peaceful beach and bush landscape. Definitely nature at its best, offering us the ideal conditions for the practice of yoga.

Vegetarian meals based on Ayurvedic principles

As an important part of the yogic lifestyle, a yogic vegetarian diet also supports the yoga practice. The meals are specifically scheduled and prepared to support the bodys natural rhythm for the digestion of food. The meals provide complete nutritional requirements for the healthy functioning of body and mind. Prepared with loving awareness the meals are always wholesome, unexpectedly tantalizing to the eyes and especially the taste buds, it is full of flavor and color. The retreaters have found meal times to be particularly something to look forward to. Special dietary requirements are catered for.
