Vinis journey into yoga started many years ago. As a young boy he practiced daily as part of his school routine merely as a form of exercise where there was no form of any spiritual intent. As a young adult he began to work a very busy schedule for a large Japanese corporate company which resulted in an extremely hectic lifestyle. It was at this point where he started to discover the true form of yoga. His daily practice enabled him to find not only the relaxing power of his action but also developed the true consciousness inside of him. He travelled to Rishikesh, Northern India, where he sought out potential locations for a yoga shala. The perfect location was sought at the foot hills of the Ganges in Laxmanjhula, the tranquil setting was perfect for finding inner balance and silence. After much hard work and help from friends and family he succeeded in his dream and opened his own Yoga Shala, known today as Yoga Vini Welfare Society. Situated below the infamous Trivambkhula Temple Yoga Vini does the perfect host for those want to deepen their practice through higher spiritual awareness.

After spending many years working abroad Mittra also decided to move back to India to work alongside with his brother. Two young men having both worked amongst diverse cultures was only going bring double the energy into their dream. Before embarking on his teaching career in Rishikesh, Mittra trained at Swami Vivekananda Yoga Anusandhana Samsthana and Sivinanda, Kerela. Mittras classes are based on traditional Hatha yoga focusing on alignment and hands on adjustments. Mittra takes great pride into trying to help each and every student with their individual needs. Mittra teaches wholly from his heart and has the unique ability to be able to respond flawlessly to the differentiated energy from each and every class. He thrives on the energy from his students which is what enables him to fully emerge into the harmony of the class and adapt for the needs of his students. Definitely a class not to be missed while visiting Rishikesh.

Marie, originally from New Zealand, spent in excess of ten years working a stressful job in central London. As with many Yogis, she felt a pull to something deeper in her life, something more than working for weekly pay check and something more than partying on the weekends. After taking advantage of redundancy opportunities, she decided to embark on career of teaching yoga. Maries classes follow the traditional Hatha Yoga format and conclude with a guided deep relaxation. She is well renowned for her deep relaxation techniques where students rarely fail to experience deep savasana following their practice. Marie also has specialism in guiding Yoga Nidra. Yoga Nidra is a process of conscious deep relaxation which opens the deeper phases of the mind.

"I have so many good things to say about Yoga Vini that I could write a book! The classes I have taken here have completely changed (not just my yoga) but my life for the better. I had been in Rishikesh a while and was planning to leave in a few days, but after taking just one class with Mitra, I changed my mind and decided to stay another two weeks just to take his classes because I knew how beneficial it would be for me. Mitra is such a kind, sweet teacher and puts his all into giving each student in class the best instruction possible. You can see how important it is to him to make sure that you are getting the best of the best as far as instruction, and correction of postures....and he does all of this with such good humor and the kindest heart. If you want to dramatically improve your yoga and get the most hands on instruction, try Yoga Vini! Changed my life!"

"During my stay in Rishikesh I went to five classes of Mittra. The classes were detailed, pleasant and professional. There are no more than 12 students per class, therefore the atmosphere is intimate and caring. Mittra is a wonderful teacher and I would definitely recommend his classes. Enjoy!"

"Fear not: though Rishikesh has a multitude of yoga options (some just middling), Yoga Vini is a great find. Three classes per day: 7:30am Hatha, 10am beginners, 5:30pm Hatha. The teacher, Mitra, is a real gentleman, and the small class size means that he can give you a ton of individualized attention. He puts a real emphasis on making sure that you're doing the basic yoga postures 100% correctly, so the class can feel a little slow, but I left with the confidence that I was definitely doing the right thing. The classes tend to be a little long because of this, which I felt was great. Overall, definitely a highlight of Rishikesh! (Practical side note: this place is a little hard to find. When crossing the Laxman Jhula bridge, the studio is actually inside the big temple on the left hand side. Go in through the first door of the temple itself and down a few flights of stairs to find the studio. Also, you can just ask people working around the temple: they'll know.)"

"Having had very little experience with yoga we were nervous to do yoga in rishikesh given its such a yoga hotspot. However Travis at yoga vini was the nicest guy, super helpful, supportive and lovely. We went two days in a row and loved it and him. Our third day in rishikesh we went to another yoga studio as we went hiking and the times didn't work out, this experience just made us realise how lucky we were and how good we had it at yoga vini. Definitely go here!"

"This being my 3rd time to India - I wish I would have discovered Yoga Vini's before. I was fortunate enough to do some drop in classes with Mittra, he is truly a very intelligent and beautiful being. Always learning from him and being motivated and pushed to our limits. I have learned so much from him and will definitely do some workshops with them my next visit to Rishikesh. I did not do my YTT with them but just from the experiences I had - I recommend it :)"

"After having got in touch with many ashrams in the area which (sorry for saying that) only gave me the feeling that is all about money, I decided to have a look directly once there. I walked into this place and had a try and I was amazed. Classes were given by Vini's brother (sorry I forgot your name), he's a very nice guy and I really felt making yoga for the first time, it was so intense and nice and feeling really comfortable there. Well done guys, hope to have the chance of coming back and stay longer."

"I might not be a yoga expert but I've done some yoga on and off for the past 10 years and I can easily say Yoga Vini had the best classes I've ever been to.The hands-on instruction is superb. In a matter of a couple of classes I was doing poses that I had been doing for years completely differently as I was finally getting the hands on instruction and guidance I'd needed. It's like having a private tutor on steroids to help, particularly in the slow season when the classes aren't too busy in the off season. I'll be benefiting from what I learnt here for the next 10 years as it took my practice and awareness super quickly to another level.Vini's brother was teaching the classes while I was there and he is an adorable mix of reverent and irreverent, which makes for a fun but really grounded and deep class. If youre a yogi of any description, come to Rishikesh. DONT MISS coming here!"

"December isn't really the season so we were only three people taking the class - which was good for us because we got more out of the teacher. He was great and the time just flew, the next day our muscles were sore and happy."

"Back in November 2013 I spent a few weeks in Rishikesh, and by chance I found myself at Yoga Vini, it was one of the best things to have happened to me during my time away.Vini's style is truly authentic, while remaining accessible. I learned a ton during my couple of weeks working with Vini and I had a great time while I was doing it. Vini was patient with me when it was required, but held me to ambitious expectations that really pushed my development. Vini is heavily invested in making sure his students achieve their goals and develop within their practice. It's that authenticity and focus on his students that truly made my time here special. This was the exact yoga experience I was looking for during my time in Rishikesh: It was earnest, it pushed me to learn and I spent time with a teacher that had a real passion for working with his students. Do yourself a favor a give Vini a try."
