We absolutely loved our stay at Senetan Villas & Spa Resort. From the start, the staff was super friendly, the villa was incredibly nice and the food was fantastic.

Do note that the location could be a downside as well as an advantage: nothing is really close. The resort does provide a free shuttle service to the nearest touristic center: Ubud, but still this is half an hour away.

The resort seems perfect for relaxing but the reception also provides some activities that can be booked. We asked them to book a jeep tour of the island, but unfortunately, they found out it only ran in the weekend. Alternatively, the reception arranged a driver to drive us around all day and they made some suggestions for hotspots to visit. A really positive experience!

And those villas... Wow! Everything except for the bedroom was in the open air (bathroom and living of course did have a roof). Especially for the bathroom it is a magical experience to fill a bath in the sound and with the views of the rainforest. Fantastic!

I had the pleasure of staying at Senetan Villas & Spa Resort during a get away with my partner in April 2016.

The place is set on the side of a Mountain in what can only be described at lush Jungle. The rooms were stunning with great views, private pool nice and cold also.

My partner became very sick while we were there with food poisoning (not from the Hotel but from a place in Ubud). The staff did everything they could to make her feel better from supplying medication, free food to help her and when it was required took us to the Hospital to see a Doctor. To put it simply, they were simply amazing.

I can not thank the staff, management and owners enough for everything they did during our stay.

    Restaurant food is great also!

I recommend to everyone to get to Senetan Villas & Spa Resort and check out the beauty that is the Bali Mountains. This Resort is run and owned by locals in the surrounding Village, so give back to the amazing people that make Bali great!

Thank you again and we will be back!

We are back at Senetan Villas for the second time in 3 months. We booked again as we were leaving the first time. Senetan is only new, so currently you can get great deals considering the excellent standard of this resort. Most villas are self-contained one-bedroom pool villas, with an outdoor kitchen and sunbaking deck. The rooms are spacious, with indoor/outdoor bathrooms with spa bath and shower. Wifi is good if you need to stay in touch with the world. There are also a couple of family villas and one-bedroom suites with a shared pool.

Senetan is located in Payangan, approximately 25 minutes from Ubud. If you're someone who likes to go to a new restaurant or bar everyday, this might not be the right place for you given you're not within walking distance of Ubud. There are free shuttles three times a day to Ubud - at 10:00, 14:00, and 16:00, with return shuttles at 15:00, 17:00 and 21:00. Or you can pay for a trip at whatever time suits you. You can arrange an airport transfer to Senetan, which takes approximately 1 hour 30 minutes, or they can collect you from your previous hotel, if you have been staying in another location in Bali.

If you're looking to simply relax and unwind, there's no better place. The only sounds are of crickets and frogs in the evenings; the villas look out over a lush valley and are surrounded by tropical gardens. There is a relaxation spa onsite, where I've sampled facials, a pedicure and the fabulous Balinese massage (have enjoyed quite a few of those!)

There is a choice of Indonesian and Western cuisine, and also cooking classes available with Dayu, the chef. We spent a very happy 2.5 hours learning to cook traditional Balinese dishes before eating them for lunch; I am actually hopeless in a kitchen, but Dayu is a very patient teacher.

There is a yoga platform down the hillside from the villas, where we had classes from Yogi Puspa, who is another very patient woman, as my husband and I are very much beginners at yoga!

We also took the morning walk one day with Sri and Kardi, which gave us a better understanding of the local community, as well as stunning views of the area.

It sounds like we did a lot of activity, but mostly we enjoyed our private villa, swimming, sunbaking and reading. Senetan Villas is the perfect antidote to stress. If you like a few drinks to assist your relaxation, you may want to bring your own. They do have beer, but no wine or spirits (although they do have mixers).

All the staff are incredible; polite, professional, welcoming and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble, they are genuinely committed to making sure you enjoy your stay with them. This resort is locally owned and staffed with locals, ensuring the whole community benefits.

If you are someone who likes 5 and 6 star multi-national hotels, this isn't for you. This isn't a place that's about being perfect in every way. I'm sure I could walk around and find small things to criticize. But this is a place that is warm and genuine; where staff are learning and improving all the time, and where you feel like you're on holiday among friends. And that, to us, is perfection. Thank you Sri, Dayu, Diani, Sushi, Kardi and everyone who makes Senetan the special place it is. We'll see you again soon.

We have stayed in some pretty amazing places around the world throughout our travels and this is ONE OF THE BEST! Just amazing!!! This is definitely a place for adults. It is peaceful and quiet and I wish for them to keep it this way.

Rio our driver told us about this amazing place and we took him up on his suggestion for our last two nights in Bali. This place is not easy to find so if you'd like to hire Rio to pick you up, please contact me. I'll be happy to get you in touch with him or you can just ask the desk staff at Senetan. They know who he is :-). Anyway, the drive in was down a dirt road and made us wonder in curiosity about where we were going. But once we got out of the car and walked in--- MAGIC! During check-in, they had us sit in the lounge area, handed me flowers, provided us with a cool fruit juice, and moist cloth to wipe our faces while they readied our room and moved our luggage. When we walked through the garden doorway to our room, we walked over water to flowers on the floor welcoming and congratulating us on our anniversary. They also gave us a mini footwash/massage in flower water. And in our room they had an anniversary cake and flowers waiting for us.

The staff is so friendly, unpretentious, quiet, respectful and willing to go out of their way to accommodate your needs. They will even drive into their village to find items that you request. The grounds and garden are lush, tropical and gorgeous. Each room is it's own separate compound and you feel like you are the only ones on the planet. The architecture is amazing and each room has its own pool. Our infinity pool had a view of the sunset. Our bathroom was hidden behind what appeared to be a wall of closets. When we opened one of the doors, it was an amazing outdoor bathroom and the bathtub was filled with flowers that read I "Heart" You.

One of the great things about this place is their customer service. They stay out of site and earshot, but if ever you are in want for anything, just pick up the phone and they are right there. There is a shuttle to take you into the main area of Ubud for restaurants and shopping if you like but we never left the resort.

If we go back to Bali, we are staying here for our whole trip and just hiring Rio to take us on day trips. Love Love Love this place!!! I wish I could give it more than an excellent rating!

Senetan Villas are about half an hour north of Ubud, on the edge of a traditional Balinese village, looking out over lush tropical vegetation and distant mountains (vocano?). As a result they are extremely peaceful, with little, if any noise other than birds and cicadas - bliss.

The villas are quite modern, with traditional indoor/outdoor bathrooms, lap pools, outdoor dining and lounging areas. Everything you need for a comfortable stay. The food at the restaurant is very good - a mixture of western and Balinese - both of which were very good (didn't get chance to try the Balinese Green Crepe!). Breakfast was perfectly good - standard fare in Bali, but good quality which you could have in your villa or at the central restaurant.

The staff made every effort to make our stay comfortable and attend to our needs, although it should be pointed out that the place is run like a hotel - there is no individual villa service. However, staff were on hand to assist, although language was sometimes a bit of an obstacle - all part of the charm! We organised yoga in the villa's yoga area amongst the tropical plants, which was very enjoyable.

Some of my party did experience some minor problems with their villas but from my own perspective, my villa was absolutely fine and I must say very good value for money. If you want to walk out of the door to restaurants/shops/cafes etc or don't want to rely on having to hop in a taxi every time you want to go anywhere, then this might be a bit remote for you. However if you enjoy your own space, peace and quiet, with friendly service, I would certainly recommend Senetan Villas. It might not be the go for children but there are several nearby activities which I know would appeal to older kids, such as Quad biking, white water rafting and tree top Adventure. For adults there are some exceptional restaurants in and around Ubud as well as the cultural attractions. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Senetan and would recommend them to people wanting a Balinese villa experience, with peace and quiet and good value for money.
