According to author Dan Buettner, a blue zone is a concept used to identify a geographic area of the world where more people live to be centenarians (past 100 years) than elsewhere, and reported to show the highest levels of well-being. While visiting Blue Spirit, you will feel the resonance of a vibrant, inspiring, and healing energy because of the rich subtropical environment, and the cultural lifestyle.

Raw food is purchased from local farmers, and organic produce when available.

If you have lactose intolerance, food allergies, or any other similar food issues, you may request for special meals. These requests must be communicated at least two weeks in advance with Yoga Town. Also, please keep in mind that a huge variety of non-allergic products are not as easily available in Costa Rica (as for example, in the U.S.).

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Liberia International Airport (LIR). Transfer from and to this airport via Blue Spirit shuttle is available on Saturdays only from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The shuttle will depart the airport as they fill. This costs 60 USD.

If you need transportation out of schedule, you may request for reservation with the following rates:

  • Arrival from Liberia International Airport (LIR) costs 160 USD
  • Arrival from San Jose International Airport (SJO) costs 240 USD
  • Departure to Liberia International Airport (LIR) costs 160 USD
  • Departure to San Jose International Airport (SJO) costs 240 USD

It is recommended to fly into Liberia International Airport (LIR), which is only a two-hour scenic drive to Blue Spirit Costa Rica. But you can also fly into San Jose International Airport (SJO) as sometimes flights from the US, Canada, or other parts of the world are less expensive or more direct. Getting to Blue Spirit from San Jose International Airport (SJO) by ground transportation however, is more costly and can take four and a half hours.

An alternative option is to take a 40-minute short domestic flight from or to San Jose International Airport (SJO) to or from the local Nosara Airport (NOB), which is only a 20-minute drive from Blue Spirit.

Each departing passenger must pay a 29 USD departure tax at either San Jose International Airport (SJO) or Liberia International Airport (LIR) before exiting Costa Rica. It can be paid in cash in US dollars, Costa Rican colones, or with a credit card.

Driving directions from Liberia International Airport (LIR)

  • Driving from Liberia International Airport (LIR) may take approximately two hours going to Blue Spirit resort. Exiting from Liberia International Airport (LIR), turn right in the direction to Santa Cruz and Nicoya.
  • Following the paved highway, you will pass through different villages (such as Filadelfia, Belen, Rio Canas, Santa Cruz) until you reach after approximately 65 kilometers per one hour the outskirts of the town of Nicoya.

Driving directions from Nicoya

  • You will come to an intersection with a four-way red flashing light and there will be signs showing a right turn into the town of Nicoya.
  • Make that right turn and drive straight through the town of Nicoya, staying always on the main road, no turns.
  • Drive slowly, as there are a lot of pedestrians in this bustling town. As you leave Nicoya on the other side, continue south on the paved road in the direction of Samara. There will be some twists and turns as you pass through different villages, but you stay always on the paved main road.
  • After approximately 30 kilometers, you will see a large gas station to your left. There is also a hardware store and a little soda cafe for snacks and drinks. Stop here and get gas if needed because this is your last chance for a stopover on the way to Nosara.
  • Shortly after the gas station, the paved road makes a sharp curve to the left.
  • At the apex of that curve, you will notice a small dirt road turning off to the right, downhill. Take this dirt road going to Garza, Guiones beach, and Nosara. It is marked with several signs.
  • Stay on this dirt road for about 20 kilometers. There are, once again, some turns and twists, but stay on the main road.
  • There are also occasional signs that tell you how many kilometers you still have to go to reach Playa Garza, Guiones, and Nosara.
  • You will pass through different villages, until you come to a T-intersection, turn right here in the direction to Playa Garza where you’ll soon meet the ocean on your left.
  • Continue straight through the village and leave Garza behind in the direction of Playa Guiones and Nosara.

Driving directions from Nosara

  • After approximately 300 meters you’ll see on your left, a gate and the Blue Spirit Costa Rica sign in blue and orange letters.
  • Make a turn to the left, and follow the little winding road all the way to the parking lot and main building.

Driving directions from San Jose International Airport (SOJ)

  • Driving from San Jose International Airport (SOJ) may take approximately three and a half up to four hours going to Blue Spirit resort.
  • Leave San Jose International Airport (SOJ) following the signs towards San Jose Escazu, and stay on this road for about 10 to 15 minutes depending on the traffic. *Turn right at the intersection, you will see a McDonalds on the far left-hand corner. This is Autopista del Sol or Highway 27.
  • Follow the signs to Caldera and Puntarenas, approximately 63.3 kilometers.
  • You will pass the port of Caldera and once you get to Puntarenas Route 27, turn into Highway 1.
  • Leave Puerto Caldera and travel northeast toward Liberia and Limonal at 84 kilometers.
  • After 28 kilometers, you will pass the little town of Esparza.
  • Keep on going straight for six kilometers, passing the first turn off to Puntarenas, then turn off to Puerto Caldera, and later the second turn off to Puntarenas.
  • Keep going straight for approximately 50 kilometers until you reach the center of Limonal.

Driving directions from Limonal

  • Leave Limonal to the West and travel toward the Puente de La Amistad at 29 kilometers and Nicoya at 63.5 kilometers.
  • Pass over the Puente de la Amistad (it's a bridge), and continue for another 21 kilometers until you come to a T-junction.
  • Turn right at the "T" onto the road 21.
  • Follow this road for 13 kilometers and turn left toward the town of Nicoya.
  • Enter Nicoya and drive straight through the town always staying on the main road, no turns. Drive slowly, as there are a lot of pedestrians in this bustling town.

Driving directions from Nicoya

"I joined for a month and just signed up for auto-renew. I am hooked. After doing yoga at a gym for a while, I decided to try a studio. I am honestly surprised by how different the experience is! My gym has a few excellent teachers that I love and follow like a groupie. The quality of instruction at Yogatown is really high, and really consistent, which I appreciate. I no longer have to pick and choose what classes I attend based on the teacher. All of their classes are fantastic. Highly, highly recommended."
