During this retreat, you will stay at Nikki's home, a quaint 300-year-old farmhouse set in the Breton countryside. Surrounded by four acres of private farmland, Nikki has lived here for over twenty years with her Mum, Sylvie. The ground floor offers two double bedrooms used for single occupancy, comfortably decorated with French-style double beds, and a large shared family bathroom (toilet, wet-room style shower, and deep bath).

The first floor has a large open planned kitchen/diner with a huge oak farmhouse table seating up to twelve, a utility with washing machine, a garden room used as a quiet space for reading, and double French doors leading to the terraced garden featuring a wisteria pergola and garden furniture. The immediate enclosed garden is full of colored flowers, trees, and secret areas to explore during the pauses and relaxation breaks.

Across the driveway is the Lodge, a converted stone-built stable block. The ground floor offers an open-planned yoga and meditation space, a shower room with a toilet. The upper floor has two double bedrooms, for single occupancy, a shared bathroom with bath and sink, a separate toilet, and a lounge area for the workshops. Within one kilometer, is a green route which is perfect for meditation walks in the beautiful countryside.

Program

With two daily sessions of activated Zen yoga (descendant of Hatha-style), meditation, and workshops Yoga Thym offers a mindfulness program to hone your creative energy. Balanced with three local, lovingly home-prepared meals per day, and surrounded by the Breton countryside, this retreat replenished your energy through loving care. Your daily itineraries are diverse and balanced as well as entirely optional in all respects.

Nikki maintains that it is important to craft your contentment. So, the objective of this retreat is to provide the environment for your energy to flow, however, that comes to you. Everyone’s needs are different. Maybe you wake for morning practice, then disappear to roam the beautiful countryside in walking meditation. Maybe you want to read and just practice in the afternoon or maybe you take a day off from practicing entirely and head into Chateaubriant for shopping or a visit to the Spa at AquaChoisel.

The choice is entirely yours. And because this is Yoga Thym’s home, they never cancel a retreat through low numbers. They offer two starting days every week, Monday or Friday so you can choose the best arrangements around your busy schedule.

This journey of peace, clarity, and inspiration to transform your mind and body is set among idyllic rural countryside in northwest France. The region is known as La Pays de le Loire. Chateaubriant is a large market town situated between the cities of Rennes in the north and Nantes in the south.

Chateaubriant is always visible on route maps due to its remarkable history in royal connections, resistance during world war two, Victor Hugo, and, of course, the Chateaubriant steak. Rest, relax, and rejuvenate among rolling hills and private fishing lakes, only a five-minute drive from the center of town.

Food

On a Yoga Thym retreat, even the delicious vegetarian meals are part of the program. Known locally as the queen of puddings, Sylvie, will provide you with an array of wonderful dishes that will tempt and tantalize your senses. Between 09:15 and 10:30 enjoy a buffet-style breakfast in the farmhouse kitchen/diner, choosing from cereals, yogurts, fruit, toast with homemade jams, or croissants.

Mouth-wateringly scrumptious lunches are served al fresco during the summer months between 13:15 and 14:00. A satisfying supper and delicious dessert are ready around 19:30 with an optional glass of local wine. Everything is lovingly prepared using only the freshness of ingredients that are locally sourced, many of them are grown on our veggie patch. Beverages including tea, coffee, fruit teas, water, soft drinks, are available throughout the day too.

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive at Nantes Atlantique (NTE) Transfer from this airport is available for an additional cost of 30 EUR. You can also book your flight to arrive at Rennes-Saint-Jacques (RNS). Transfer from and to these airports takes approximately 1 hour to the retreat and is subject to availability. Please inquire before booking.

Arrival by train

You can take the train to Paris, via Rennes, to Chateaubriant or Paris via Angers by train and then to Chateaubriant train station by bus (bus ticket included in the train fare). Nantes to Chateaubriant is accessible via the Train-Tram. Transfers from Chateaubriant Train Station are free.
