In a destination where one of the world's oldest cultures still thrives, the mystery, color, and wisdom of the local Anangu people is interwoven into every facet of Sails in the Desert's modern design. More than luxury accommodation, Sails in the Desert hotel is a destination of exploration and indulgence.
Imagine spending a week in the Australian outback, communing with nature and immersed in luxury at Sails in the Desert. A week of indigenous celebrations with the annual Tjungu Festival in town, daily spiritual and shamanic adventures, new moon rituals, yoga and meditation, holistic workshops, a trip to scenic Kings Canyon, camel riding, time with community and elders, private healing and of course luxurious treatments at the world renowned Red Ochre Spa.
Kirtanists Lulu and Mischka joined Yoga Spirit Journeys in 2016 and helped make the experience even more memorable for everyone and in 2017 Yoga Spirit Journeys are incredibly lucky and grateful to be accompanied by master sound healer Matt Omo, aka The Gong Guru, alongside local indigneous musicians and healers. This will take your spiritual work next level yet again. The powerful combination of yoga, shamanic journeying and sound healing will allow you to fully immerse yourself in the culture, sounds, tastes, sights and scents of Uluru and the surrounding landscapes. It is a beautiful accompaniment to the healing intentions of these retreats and something that will stay with you forever.
The daily format includes exciting cultural adventures alongside therapeutic yoga, healing circles, musical sessions, and meditation; all designed to align you with your heart, seasonal energies, and the shifting vibrations of the land. You begin your week with a traditional Welcome to Country or Inma, performed by local Anangu dancers and storytellers. This is an amazing experience and one that is sure to leave an imprint on your soul.
It is an honor to be greeted by the custodians of this beautiful land and the traditional dress and storytelling displays are sure to excite and inspire you. When you're not up early doing yoga, you'll be up early heading towards an exquisite Uluru sunrise or bidding farewell to the day with a spectacular Kata Tjuta sunset.
You'll also take the base walk around Uluru after sunrise yoga on location one morning then learn about bush tucker, indigenous lore, and the creation story song lines plus other interesting tales from your local guide.
You'll take a camel ride by sunset and enjoy drinks and canapes afterwards. You'll consciously walk the sacred Valley of the Winds at Kata Tjuta and commune with the spirit guides and power animals that call this place home. You'll enjoy fine dining under the stars surrounded by the incredible artistic exhibit by British installation artist, Bruce Munro, Field of Light.
With over 15 years of teaching experience exploring the relationship between the seasonal cycles, five element theory, esoteric modalities, and body/mind spirituality; Denby has founded the innovative practice she calls Mana yoga, a unique flow that reflects her own journey with yoga, energetic healing, and motherhood. Her shamanic work weaves an empowering layer, unbinding and aligning, inspiring, and recalibrating bodies, hearts, and minds through an intuitive sequencing of remedial and seasonal yoga postures, breath work, meditation, and mantra.
This fluid integration of individual adjustments and bodywork, ritual and healing techniques makes for an enlightening and potent experience. You will be moved, in many ways and on many levels and often feel like you have just received a massage, counseling, and yoga session all rolled into one. Denby has led healing retreats in Bali, Hawaii, and Tonga for the past decade. Yoga Spirit Journeys is her newest venture where she intends to respectfully share her knowledge, teachings, and ever evolving spiritual awakenings in service to others as they develop and anchor their own innate powers in this most sacred of lands.
Maruku arts dot painting workshop provides a fun introduction to local Indigenous art. At the end of the tour pay a visit to the adjacent indigenous art markets to see local artists at work and purchase an authentic piece of Anangu art or craft to take home.
