Who is this course suitable for?

This module is suitable for existing yoga teachers who wish to integrate pregnant women into their general classes and those who wish to offer classes and/or courses to pregnant women and baby and me classes and/or courses.

Participants should have completed a 200-hour Teacher Training diploma or equivalent. This module is also suitable for midwives, doulas and anyone involved in Obstetrics, childbirth education, and other pregnancy health professionals with a committed yoga practice of at least 2 years.

Please note that for those who have not completed a Level 1 Yoga Alliance Registered Training, or registered with Yoga Alliance at the 200-hour level, you will receive a graduation certificate from Yoga Shala Ibiza upon completion of this training, but you will not be able to register with Yoga Alliance as a prenatal yoga teacher.

    Program content and aims

Forward and backward bends, rotations, inversions, standing postures and arm-stretching Asanas.

At the beginning of the module, participants are encouraged to examine their own strengths and weaknesses and to develop a personal set of goals regarding the specialty of teaching pregnancy and postnatal recovery yoga.

There is a crying need for pregnancy and postnatal recovery yoga classes. We aim to set out basic guidelines for setting up and running pregnancy classes and classes for babies and mums.

Lots of expecting mums are referred to by their midwives and doctors and during their yoga sessions they have the opportunity to develop a profound bond with their unborn child.

As well as enhancing the vitality, mobility, general health, and emotional wellbeing of the expectant mother, pregnancy yoga also provides a valuable quiet space in which to develop their relationship with the baby inside.

Once those babies are born, we owe it to them and their mothers to give them the chance to continue to develop that bond through yoga, promoting postnatal wellbeing for mother and child.

It is a special kind of work, and we need more teachers who are able to run these kinds of classes.

An important aspect of the role of the yoga teacher in both pre and postnatal work is to mother the mother. For both the expectant and the new mother, her yoga class can be a time to rest in the assurance that she is in safe hands, and that the experience and training of the teacher can allow her to enjoy the sense of being cared for, understood, supported, and encouraged in her role as mother.

The holiday will be at a Luxury Villa in Ibiza also known as Eivissa, The Balearic Islands, Spain.

The luxurious villa sits in an idyllic, heavenly spot, super high above the village of Sant Lorrenc (San Lorenzo) with stunning panoramic views over the ambrosial land of Ibiza and out to the Mediterranean Sea and to the nearby Island of Formentera.

Set within 6 acres of land, there is plenty to explore including a hill walk leading to one of the most beautiful sunset views. Cosy in the wintertime, the house is centrally heated and feels warm and homely. There is a warm and welcome atmosphere. We get many of warm, sun filled days in Ibiza in the winter so when the sun is out, there are plenty of outdoor spaces around the beautiful infinity pool for relaxing and soaking up the rays.

The light brunch and dinner are prepared using the finest available ingredients, including homegrown organic produce.

"My retreat at Yoga Shala Ibiza was quite interesting in the sense that it was the first time I took yoga and diving clases. I liked the combination of both. Both sports have to do with breathing, so one adds up to the other one. The yoga exercises were quite challenging sometimes, and the diving was good fun. Cala Martina, where I took the diving clases, has a very nice beach and the diving club has a great atmosphere. The apartments are decent; although maybe a bit expensive. But I'm sure this depends of the season. I had a good time and would certainly recommend this vacation to anyone who is interested in yoga and diving. Some organizational aspects could be improved, but I'm sure that will be taken care of in the future as this was the first time it was organized."

"It is now 3 years since I completed my 3 weeks intensive yoga teacher training at Yogashala Ibiza, and I am so happy to be returning this year to help out and to learn some more. The course was one of the most challenging but also rewarding and transformational few weeks of my life. I gained so much knowledge and confidence. I had undertaken the course mainly for my own learning, and to have the confidence to develop my own personal practice at home. But I left there feeling humbled by the the knowledge I had gained and really wanting to share it, and so I did start teaching. Now I realise how much I have learnt from teaching, and how much I enjoy it.Thank you Jacqueline for all your care and advice and for asking me to come back. I am so excited to be a part of this course and would highly recommend it for anyone wanting to deepen their understanding and practice of yoga."

"I just finished Teacher Training with Jacqueline Purnell in Ibiza. Already, I'm signed up for further training, coming back in two months for the Pre- and Postnatal Yoga course."

"Why I chose Jacqueline? Having met her at a yoga retreat before, I already knew her as very knowledgeable, but also down to earth. Looking for a teacher to provide a thorough and grounded training, I was not disappointed. While training was intense, it was also a lot of fun. Jacqueline put special emphasis on our understanding the physiology of yoga, applying various teaching methods to cater to every type of learner. We all gathered extensive teaching practice during the three weeks. From the beginning on, we exercised applying the correct modifications for various physical conditions and assuring all levels had a safe and pleasant experience. Jacqueline provided a life changing experience in a breathtaking location. Through her as well as her assistant Lynn Ramsson's support I feel not only excited to start my career as a yoga teacher, but well prepared - with an intense hunger for more!"

"I have had a brilliant 3 weeks at Yogashala. I felt appreciated, supported and encouraged as an individual and this has greatly boosted my confidence. The trainer took the time to give me some advice to improve on my own personal practise which was much appreciated. Also i needed some extra practise teaching and this was provided which was very helpful for my professional development. I spent an amazing three weeks with amazing people that i feel lucky to have met and i was sad when it came to an end. I would definitely return there to do the pregnancy and postnatal course and my Advanced teacher training. The setting is beautiful and the meals were delicious. The activities were fun and I learnt so much about yoga. I came on the course to develop my own personal practise but instead have come away and am now working on a career in yoga. It was an experience im deeply thankful for."

"The course is excellent in terms of practical teaching skills and experience - being exposed to teaching rapidly, and to teaching external attendees for classes right away is fantastic. The clear focus on safety and alignment will also absolutely stand me in good stead going forwards. It is clear that the leader of the course is tremendously experienced and knowledgeable in the field and she responded really well to the overall feedback from the group as the course went along as well. "I am excited to be returning to Yogashala Ibiza for the pre-natal and post-natal teacher training course with Jacqueline next month. I think it will be beautiful to be able to offer yoga to mothers and babies, for them to have that yoga connection, from the womb and beyond. During the five years I lived and worked in Dubai, my students were mainly women - of all ages and stages of life - I feel this training will complete my circle of experience.Since my very first Power yoga class with Jacqueline over a decade ago, progressing on to the BWY foundation and diploma course and through the years that I have been teaching, I have found Jacqueline to be an exuberant and dedicated teacher who has been an inspiration to me; always supportive and full of wisdom and experience."

"The awesome sweet location where I started after two years no training due to Hernia troubles was a hearth warming welcome back to yoga. As a boot camper I joined the teacher training program and with focus, concentration and beautiful build up I was within three days getting more and more back in my body. The sweet and strong guidance was uplifting and did bring a feeling of wanting more. More understanding and more training, hope to be back soon."

"Having just arrived home from a 200-hour teacher training course with Jacqueline, I feel completely renewed and energized. Instead of lamenting at the London weather, I find myself now walking with a smile on my face and yoga mat on my shoulder as I continue on the path I started paving in Ibiza. Studying to become a yoga teacher has been one of the more difficult things that I have done in my life (and I thought I was tough after 10 years in the city!), as its physically and mentally demanding, but the sense of accomplishment and personal growth I gained as a result of graduating to become a yoga teacher has made it very worthwhile. Jacqueline is one of the most experienced and knowledgeable yoga practitioners I have come across, and I feel really fortunate to have had her share her knowledge and passion with us on the course. She also understood that all the students came from different walks of life and had differing depths of yoga practice thus far, making everyone feel included and important. We were also given the opportunity to spend significant time teaching full 90-minute yoga classes to external students a great confidence booster! While my newfound Ibiza tan will unfortunately fade, I think that the internal glow this course has given me will last."

"Jacqueline provides a unique opportunity to immerse oneself in one activity of yoga across a period of three weeks. This, together with the in-depth knowledge that Jacqueline has of her subject, an amazing location, superb food, and prearranged accommodation add up to a period where one can focus totally on the one subject a luxury in its own right! If you have the passion for yoga and want to know more indeed be qualified to teach it then I cannot think of a better way of achieving your goal. Added to this, Jacqueline's positivity always shines through, creating a path of joy and hope. This is a very inspiring memory and inspiration for ones future. Thank you, Jacqueline."

"Many greetings from my first 500-hour teacher training course. Here, I realize that with the Yogashala TTC 2012 I am well educated and qualified for the advanced study period. I feel well-informed about asanas, anatomy, philosophy, and didactics. And what differentiates me from the others is that I have the self-confidence and security to teach groups, because at the Yogashala, we started teaching nearly from the first day on.Before the TCC on Ibiza, this would have been unthinkable to me. The TCC transformed me. It made me stronger, more secure, trustful and more vital. Why? Because within these three weeks I had to cope with many challenges - both physical and psychological - and so I could discover myself. And I was supported by so many beings: A funny and loving group (thanks, you wonderful people!), expert teachers that I was allowed to learn from (thanks, Jacqueline, Arlette, Chris and Seba), delicious meals (thanks, Sol and Olli!), the magic of the island (thanks, Ibiza! and myself, my courage, my confidence, the support by my loved ones and my own way (thanks, Jette!). The transformation goes on."

"Ibiza, the perfect location for yoga! I am a recent graduate of the three-week intensive yoga teacher training course. Well, where do I start?T he food was flawless, totally vegetarian, full of flavor, excellent quality, and large portions, thanks to Sol, our chef extraordinaire! The intensity of the course, in the heat of Ibiza, was very challenging physically but achievable with the right attitude and effort, and almost addictive, once one was familiar with the routine of 6.30 a.m. starts! During the three weeks of training, I felt my body and mind had woken up to reality after a long, long sleep! How often does one have the opportunity to experience this and open ones heart to the feeling of peace and serenity? No distractions, no chit-chat to fuel the mind with irrelevant scenarios and negativity, just oneself. Being in the now is sufficient. Talking is overrated anyway! The creativity that was evident in all of the student's demonstrations. They were so inspiring and so memorable. The bonding between all the students was unexpected but boosted the group dynamics from the very beginning of the course, so that in the end, we were friends who had the spirit of yoga as a common denominator. The course tutors opened our minds to the human potential in all of us.I thoroughly recommend the course, tough as it was at times, but so worth every second of effort. I am a different person now. More confident, grounded, content, knowledgeable, skillful (oh, and modest!). If you can dedicate this time to the course, you will be overwhelmed at what can be achieved, with the guidance of Jacqueline, a truly beautiful soul who surely has enthusiasm, inspiration, wisdom and knowledge on yoga well beyond her years, in the beautiful, magical location of Ibiza.Do it! In life, opportunities will present themselves, it is up to us to seize them! Namaste."
