During this retreat, you will be staying at Namo Buddha Resort in a shared twin, quadruple, or private room. The resort is built in traditional Newari style, surrounded by organic farmland, flower gardens and forest, where they encourage sustainable methods of cultivation as well as preserving the natural wildlife habitat.

On this retreat, you will practice yoga, meditation, chant, and pranayama - the usual things but you will also take your practice to very special places. Ancient places, full of the energy of past and present yogis. You will visit six in total:

  • Kopan Monastery
  • Swayambhunath
  • Buddha Par
  • Pharping
  • Namo Buddha
  • Boudhanath

The pilgrimage

Kopan Monastery

You will receive teachings, enjoy a monastic lunch and stroll through the beautiful gardens.

This sacred temple is one of the oldest in Nepal - over 1500 years old.

Buddha Par

As you walk around, you will say the mantra for each deity as you take in their beauty.

Lunch, shopping, traditional Buddhist artwork (Thangkas), and the best lassi of your life.

You will practice mantra inside the cave where Padmasambhava attained his enlightenment.

Namo Buddha

This is one of the three main stupas of the Kathmandu valley, a very sacred place.

Here, you will spend time walking around the stupa, performing virtuous action through body, speech, and mind (and a little shopping!)

Each location has some spiritual meaning and benefit. The focus will be to develop an inner awareness of compassion and kinds towards yourselves and others. Through this practice, you will come to know more happiness and ease in life. Be prepared to meditate mindfully and allow the beauty of these places to infuse inspiration to propel you further on your yogic journey. This retreat has a strong spiritual focus but rest assured, you will still have the opportunity to relax, explore, and buy those perfect little gifts for yourself and others.

The practice

Most mornings will begin with 60- to 75 minutes Vinyasa (flow) practice to get the body moving and the mind awake and ready for the day. In the afternoons, you will practice a lighter Yin class.

The meditation sessions will follow the teachings on compassion and kindness, which come from the Mahayana Buddhist school of thought training. These will be in the morning and evenings.

The mantras you will practice will be Tibetan Buddhist mantras. You will practice these at the Resort and then use these when you will go to visit holy places as part of your practice.

A typical day at the resort:

  • 07:00 Vinyasa yoga and meditation
  • 09:00 Breakfast
  • 11:00 Teaching / Mantra / Meditation practice
  • 12:30 Lunch
