The accommodation is away from the city and a little into the foresty mountains. Being in the lap of Mother Nature and her healing sounds and vibration is considered part of your practice as a time to detox from your daily electronics usages and be present in the training and back to yourself.

Accommodations are non-AC wooden bungalow rooms with fans available. Mosquito nets and bathroom with hot shower available in every dorm, shared and private room. Bedding, sheets, towel and basic toiletry set is provided in your room with daily room cleaning service.

Program

The 200-hour yoga teacher training in Chiang Mai, Thailand is an intensive 22-day program. The yoga teacher training course not only strengthens the essential foundations of yoga to ensure students would be able to build upon these foundations to further their practices.

The yoga teacher training course is also a prerequisite to the 300-hour yoga teacher training course, an advanced level of yoga teacher training.

The main lead teachers are brought up in spiritual families with yoga as an important part of their youth and life principles. They aim to bring balance between all subjects of yoga which are mainly categorized as yoga philosophy, yoga anatomy and physiology, pranayama, meditation, relaxation (yoga Nidra), and practical yoga sessions (i.e. Hatha yoga, Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga).

In this modern-day, yoga has been made into a sort of sport and exercise by many fitness companies and even adopted by many freelance yoga teachers. Yoga has lost the spirituality that is the essence of it all. Yoga Samaadhi wants to be part of the movement that brings the spirituality aspect back into what people call “yoga”. They aim to give you the experience that makes you understand how meditation is linked to the practical yoga session more than you realized, and that all yoga concepts and practices are just a part of going deeper into yourself and brings you closer to peace and self-realization.

Course structure

The training is structured to follow the standards under the "Five Educational Categories of Studies and Practices" of yoga, plus self-study hours (referred to as non-contact hours). Yoga Samaadhi makes sure to integrate all essential subjects such as pranayama, shatkriya, yoga philosophy, yoga anatomy, yoga asanas, meditation, and relaxation, to ensure the students undergo a wholesome and well-rounded environment of yoga studies and practice during the training at Yoga Samaadhi.

1. Techniques, training, and practice (TTP) – 105 hours

Analytical training of how to practice each technique. Students will undergo guided practices with yoga instructors.

  • Mantra chanting
  • Basic Ayurveda: basic principles, dosha, tri-guna, Ayurvedic diet, and health
  • Shat kriya (cleansing techniques)
  • Pranayama (breathing techniques): sitting posture for breathing practice, nadi shodhana, anulom viloma, ujjayee, kapalabhati, introduction to advance practices
  • Mudra (energy seals or spiritual gestures): jnana mudra, dhyan mudra, introduction to advance mudras
  • Bandha (body locks)
  • Meditation: basic sitting posture, relaxation meditation, So-Ham meditation, mantra meditation
  • Relaxation (yoga Nidra): tension and relaxation technique, systematic relaxation, breath relaxation, 31 points / 61 points relaxation, preparation for yoga Nidra

2. Teaching methodology (TM) – 20 hours

Students will cover the overview and analysis of teaching methods.

  • The 8 limbs of yoga (Ashtanga yoga): yama, niyama, asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana, and Samadhi

5. Practicum (teaching practice) – 10 hours

  • Practice teaching as the lead instructor

6. Self-study and assignments – 20 hours

During the training, you will have assignments to be completed and submitted and self-study time that is to be utilized efficiently for studying manual, texts, revision, designing your class, preparation for teaching class, etc.

Sample daily schedule

You follow a tight daily schedule to ensure that our students get the most out of yoga teachings and practices during this short yoga teacher training program. It is encouraged to take full rest every night by sleeping early as part of your practice and to maintain health and focus throughout the program.

Training takes place 6 days out of 7 days of the week. The 7th day is considered resting day, normally set on Sundays. Students are free to use this rest day to practice, review, and reflect lessons and practices during the past week. Yoga Samaadhi also organizes a half day excursion during the rest day for students to take some time to explore and experience Thai attractions, nature, and culture.

Important disciplines / rules

These are some rules that are most commonly violated. Students are expected to follow rules and disciplines during the course.

  • 1. Participants are required to attend 90% of the training hours. Participating in only half the class will not be counted as a full class and one should not sign his / her daily attendance as if for full class participation.
  • 2. No alcohol, drugs, or addictive substance are allowed during the course. This applies no matter inside or outside of the school premises, including during any extra nights before or after the course if students are staying at our accommodation. Any alcohol/drug consumption will lead to being asked to leave without certification.
  • 3. No smoking of any kind, including e-cigarettes allowed on-premise. Yoga Samaadhi promotes physical and emotional purification during the training. If you have a strong habit of smoking, please try to keep it to a minimum and smoke only outside of accommodation / resort premises. Please dispose of your cigarette buds at safe and appropriate disposal.
  • 4. No consumption of non-vegetarian (i.e. no meat, no poultry, no eggs, etc.), within accommodation or school/resort premise. Yoga Samaadhi realizes that not everyone interested in the course is pure vegetarian. However, by signing up and booking for this course, you have agreed to the disciplines and the dietary requirements. Students are responsible for bringing dietary supplements that they require during the duration of the course. If you really need non-vegetarian from time to time, you may discreetly plan for your meals outside the school. Please do not request the staff to prepare non-vegetarian meals, including eggs (Yoga Samaadhi follows Indian vegetarian diet rules). Yoga Samaadhi has rented out 90% of the resort during the training. There will be guests from another tour group, not attending the training, who takes their usual non-vegetarian diet and an occasional beer. They do not impose their disciplines on them as they are not students. They also do not force the resort to omit these options from the menu. However, they expect the students to follow school rules and discipline while staying at the premises.
  • 5. No verbal or behavioral aggression, including passive aggression, towards classmates, school management team, teachers, and resort staff at any time.
  • 6. No using mobile phones for external communication or social media during an ongoing class. This is considered disrespectful to teachers and classmates who may require a positive and focused class environment.

School holds the right to ask a student to leave the training without certification if he or she does not follow or violates school discipline.

During your stay, all meals are vegetarian (no eggs are allowed but dairy and honey is available). Meals are mainly Thai local cuisine made with fresh, organic ingredients bought from His Majesty the King's Royal Project. Gluten-free options is available. Full-range gluten-free products are not commonly found or available in the area, so please note that you would be have limited options for meals during your stay but Yoga Samaadhi will do their best to provide you what you need.

Smoking and alcohol are strictly prohibited in school area. They strongly encourage all to take a break from smoking and alcohol consumption habit during their time at the yoga teacher training as part of their personal growth and practices, as well as to support a healthy and holistic lifestyle.

How to get there

Recommended Airports

Arrival by airplane

Please book your flight to arrive to Chiangmai International Airport (CNX). It is located at the southwest corner of Chiang Mai city. If there are no direct flights from your city, there are certainly connections you could make to reach Chiangmai.

Arrival by train

From within Thailand, there trains between different provinces and Chiangmai province. From Bangkok, the journey takes about 12 hours. You can choose to take the overnight trains that feature comfortable bunks with or without air-conditioning. Train tickets from Bangkok are between 600-1,000 THB depending on the level of comfort.

Arrival by bus

Buses are available roughly every hour from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. There are a few bus terminals in Bangkok and they destined for different parts of the country. As you would be travelling north to Chiangmai. You will be departing from Bangkok’s Mo Chit Station and arriving at Chiang Mai’s Eastern (main) Bus Terminal. The first departure of the day is at 05:30 and the last is at 22:00. From Bangkok, the journey takes about 10 hours and bus prices range from 12 USD to 25 USD per trip from Bangkok to Chiangmai.

Yoga Samaadhi is 53 km in the southern direction from Chiangmai city and 55 km from Chiangmai International Airport (CNX). The bus for Mae Wang district leaves from the corner of Wualay Rd. and Chang Lor Rd., opposite the Chiangmai Gate (1 of the 4 city gates) on the south side of the moat that surrounds the old city. Look for a bus that goes to บ้านกาด (Baan Kaad), it’s a yellow pickup truck with seats at the back and a sign on the roof, the route stops in Mae Wang. Sit to the end of the line which is 5km passed Baan Kaad fresh market. The ride costs only 35 baht per passenger. From there, you have to pay extra fee of around 250-300 baht to reach the guesthouse.

Arrival by taxi

Yoga Samaadhi is happy to assist you in arranging a taxi pick up once you arrive in Chiangmai. The taxi fee and travel time will depend on your pick up location and traffic. It is an average of 1.20 hours from Chiangmai International Airport (CNX) to the guesthouse by taxi and costing around 1,500 baht per trip. We also have a contact with a local Chiangmai public transport. So if you don’t mind an open air yellow pickup (back seaters with roof) taxi, this will cost you only 800 baht per trip from the airport.
