This retreat program is a complete detox for the body and mind. All activities are optional but the days are structured and full, giving the opportunity to immerse yourself in the program, connect with your intuitive wisdom, and practice the art of letting go. There is also time built into each program to relax, explore the surrounding countryside, and take advantage of the holistic treatments available.

The main house is equipped with two twin king-sized bedrooms (en-suite), two twin king-sized bedrooms (shared), and one single bedroom (en-suite). In the annex, there are two twin king-sized bedrooms (en-suite). All the rooms have central heating, laundry, drying, and ironing facilities, internet access, payphone, TV, DVD player, and ample parking space.

This program incorporates shatkarmas, (yogic cleansing practices), yogasana, pranayama, yoga nidra (deep relaxation) and guided meditations with mantra, karma yoga, (meditation in action) mouna, (inner and outer silence) daily walks, healthy vegetarian food, educational talks, and workshops.

Most of the time, the awareness is almost exclusively externalized. This constant externalization can, over time, lead to feeling depleted of energy, anxious, depressed, and confused. These retreats offer an opportunity to leave your social roles and responsibilities for a short time and journey inwards to re-connect with the source of energy, healing, wisdom, and creativity.

Every aspect of the personality is addressed to release tensions and bring about a state of vitality and balance. Beyond this, the witnessing awareness is awakened and developed so that the fluctuations of the body and mind can be viewed with equanimity. You will leave feeling able to continue in your life with renewed energy, clarity, and purpose.

Instruction and supervision in three shatkarmas

  • The yogic cleansing practices work directly to balance the digestive and respiratory systems and also bestow many other benefits on the body and the mind.
  • Laghoo shankaprakshalana (intestinal wash-short practice)

Sadhana met a Satyananda yoga teacher in 1997 at a Vipassana retreat in Thailand. She wasn't aware of this at the time as it was a silent retreat, but afterwards they spent a few weeks on a nearby beach where she taught her yoga in exchange for Reiki and reflexology.

What set this experience apart from other yoga classes (apart from the amazing setting) was the clear and precise instruction, which allowed the effects of the practices to speak for themselves. It felt immediately authentic and created a profound effect on her and a curiosity to find out more.

So, in 1999 she enrolled on the ten month Diploma in Yogic Studies at the Bihar School of Yoga, (Satyananda Yoga) in India. The diploma was taught in a traditional ashram and gurukul. The academic and practical studies formed part of the curriculum like yoga philosophy, yoga psychology, and applied yoga.

The other part of the curriculum was the practice of living a full time yogic lifestyle and the application of Karma yoga to all activities undertaken. On her return to the UK, she set up yoga classes in response to requests from friends and colleagues.

After two years of teaching, traveled to Australia to complete diplomas I and II in teacher training at the Satyananda Yoga Academy, where she subsequently lived for 14 months. During this time, she taught classes and assisted teaching on the yogic studies courses. Living and working as part of this community afforded her a unique opportunity to deepen her own practice and understanding of yoga and it's practical application.

A natural bent for the esoteric initially drew her to the east and in particular India and she have been back several times but in the last few years her journey has consisted more of applying and integrating the practices and techniques into her daily life.

Yr Ocr is a beautiful house and annexe building set amidst three acres of ancient forest in the Snowdonia National Park. It has a very nurturing feel, which is mirrored by the surrounding nature. The yoga room has wonderful views and the soothing sound of the stream, which gently flows underneath.

Yr Ocr is managed by the lovely people at Snowdonia Mountain Lodge, which houses the World Peace Flame. The Lodge is a 45-minute walk through amazing landscapes and has facilities that are available to you during your stay including another beautiful yoga studio, a amazing yogic gift shop and a vegetarian caf.

Driving directions from the North

  • Leave the A55 at junction 11 and follow signs for Bethesda and Betws-y-Coed.
  • After one mile you will reach a very sharp right hand bend. *Continue on for a further one-mile before taking the first road on the right.
  • After a couple of hundred yards take the first left onto Hen Turnpike / B4409.
  • Then take the second right hand turn after one mile.
  • Yr Ocar is signed to the right hand side of the road.

Driving directions from the South Travel through Betws-y-Coed on the A5.

  • After some nine miles, when you've gone past the Ogwen Bank Caravan Park, take a left turn onto the B4409.
  • After the bridge, follow the road to the right.
  • At the Bradite Paint Factory, turn left.
  • Yr Ocar is signed on the right hand side of the road.

By train

  • Arrive at Bangor Train station, we will do our best to pick you up on request and with notice of arrival time. Taxis are also available from the station.

We were a small group who were wonderfully looked after and led by Geraldine / Sadhana - a truly wonderful woman who walks the walk and ensured we got the maximum benefit out of the whole experience.
