You will stay in a typical Spanish house surrounded by beautiful nature. From the doorstep you can enter many hiking trails through the park, or just walk around over the private estate. The large swimming pool filled with fresh mountain water is a favorite place to relax during the warm summer days. The house offers three different types of accommodation in a single, twin or quadruple room. It has a large living room with a cozy fire place, a large dining table and a diverse library with books about yoga, spirituality, anatomy, dreaming, mindfulness and many other topics. There are two shared bathrooms, both with a comfortable bath tub and shower. The open kitchen is the place where you can find lots of healthy vegetables and fruits, which you are free to take whenever you want. On the second floor is the yoga and meditation room, where you will do your practice most of the time. The adjacent balcony offers a magnificent view over the surrounding 'Jurassic Park' mountains.

Style of yoga and meditation

The retreat includes two yoga classes daily: one dynamic (yang) class and one gentle (yin) class. No prior experience with yoga is necessary to follow the classes, as postures will be adjusted both for beginners as more advanced practicioners. The dynamic classes are based on the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series. This invigorating morning class is physically challenging, yet has a meditative character. Through different variations of the postures, everybody can practice at their own level. Pranayama, or breathing exercises, are incorporated in the classes.

In the afternoon you will practice gentle Hatha or Yin yoga. In these classes, more passive postures are held for a longer period of time to create a meditative state, promote deeper relaxation and to target the yin structures of the body.

The daily meditation sessions will cultivate awareness of your present experience. By sitting in stillness, you become more aware of our thoughts, feelings, energies, and physical sensations. During the course of the week you will integrate this awareness into the more active parts of your practice and daily life, creating a more centered and balanced state of being. The yoga and meditation classes are supported by a variety of interesting theory classes and workshops. No one week is the same, as topics always vary according to the specific interests of the group.

The homely and personal setting of this retreat makes it unique. Most participants come alone, but being in a small yet diverse group makes it easy to get to know and connect with the other participants. It is the optimal setting to focus on your personal growth, while relaxing in nature's beauty and tranquility. Also, if you come for introspection and quiet time for yourself, this is highly respected.

    Wonderful experience!

PROS Pros: The setting is beautiful, in the middle of nature and with a nice swimming pool when it's too hot. I also liked the combination of different styles of yoga (hata and yin yoga) and meditation.

"I'm glad I decided to join this short retreat during the holidays. It helped me train my body and soul, as well as regenerate and relax after a year of hard work. The yoga classes were great, the food was nourishing and the environment - beautiful. The theoretical lessons, however, were way too complicated to understand for a novice and the meditation sessions also were tough for a beginner (thankfully I have practiced before, but it was difficult nonetheless). Anyway, all the other parts of the retreat more than make up for those problems and I am very happy to have traveled such a long distance to meet all these cool people. Thank you, Alexander and Serieke, and I wish you all the best in the present and in the future!"

"For those who are looking for a yoga retreat in Europe, I would highly recommend this place. Both instructors are very efficient, nice and cool people. Their instructions in yoga and meditation are very clear and easy to follow. Moreover, I found that the property is one of the best places to learn yoga and meditation. In the midst of serene nature, it's ideal for those who want to spend a quiet time with themselves or with good company."

"The retreat was absolutely amazing! Serieke and Alexander are true Ashtanga/yoga ambassadors and have a fantastic and very wide knowledge. Both are so positive and calming at the same time. These five days in Spain really made a huge positive impacted in my life. We had morning Ashtanga classes, followed by very interesting led and presented workshops, then lunch with free time, yoga again, dinner and ending with a nice meditation. Preparing the food together really made us participants become a little family within this one week we spend there. I truly want to thank both of them for making my stay unique and unforgettable."

"The intensive Yoga and Vipassana Retreat, led by Serieke and Alexander was outstanding. The daily yoga, ashtanga in the morning and hatha in the evenings was just what I needed. Taking time to slow down and meditate each day brought more benefits to the practices of the retreat. Sharing wholesome yummy food and conversation with the others - all very nice people - made it a memorable week. I'd sign up for another retreat with them in the future."

  • Review by Cynthia from Sweden

"This retreat was balm for my soul and besides that, I learned a lot about myself. Yoga Retreat Spain provides a place for inspiration, creativity and self-reflection that means and will mean a lot for everybody attending this retreat since there is not much time and space left for these things in all-day life anymore. With them I had the long desired - and so far missed - time to explore my state of mind, my intentions for life and to collect myself again. What they do for people with that retreat is something incredibly meaningful and I really aspire to share these experiences I had here with many people by also being a yoga teacher one day. You live my dream! :)"

I feel I will do the retreat again in the future as it has a real benefit on me and how I look at my life."
