Taking time out from your normal life and focusing on you can be hugely beneficial. This retreat offers you the opportunity to retreat from your day-to-day world, leave your busy life behind, make new friends, have new experiences, and regain a sense of natural calm and wellbeing. This weekend is for everyone - beginners and experienced. If you have never tried yoga before, come along and learn the basics. Equally, if you are an experienced student, you will still benefit from a weekend immersion into your practice.
Paradise View Retreat includes The Lodge, The Cottage and The Meadows. There are eleven spacious, comfortable bedrooms all with their own amazing views and seven modern bathrooms so you’ll never have to wait.
The accommodation is a mix of twin-share, single and double rooms. Each room is beautifully appointed with luxurious furnishings, access to an outdoor deck, and plenty of privacy to enjoy quiet moments to yourself. The modern bathrooms are bright, airy, and spacious. Several rooms have ensuite facilities and those that are sharing bathrooms are only sharing with one other bedroom. Luxurious linen and towels and eco body wash are provided.
A purpose-built yoga studio full of natural light, a beautiful wooden floor with underfloor heating, plenty of wall space and fully equipped with quality yoga equipment including Liforme mats, blocks, bricks, bolsters, belts, blankets, chairs, and sandbags.
There is an outdoor yoga deck with stunning views of Bream Bay, where the group can start the day with a yoga practice in the peaceful surroundings and a chorus of morning bird song.
The spacious, comfortable lounge is ideal for groups to relax together, enjoying the expansive views of Bream Bay or huddling around the roaring open fire in winter months.
The bright, modern kitchen is fully-equipped and available for retreat guests to make their own tea and coffee and help themselves to tasty snacks throughout the day.
Part of the open plan living space is the dining room, a perfect space for communal meals or group meetings for 14 people at a beautiful reclaimed New Zealand's Oregon table
Sometimes you just need to get away and sit quietly on your own with a book. The cozy little quiet room is well stocked with books for you to immerse yourself in.
Taking this time to immerse yourself in your yoga and meditation practice can have enormous benefits, in all realms of your life - physically, mentally, and spiritually. These immersive weekends give you time to take stock of all aspects of your life, reflect, set intentions, and maybe reset your direction.
There will be two sessions of yoga and meditation every day. In the morning, a 2-hour energizing, dynamic yoga class including pranayama and meditation. The afternoon class will be a 2-hour workshop where you will dive deeper into a few of the poses to gain a deeper understanding of the practice and the benefits. The afternoon will also include some restorative yoga, with deep relaxation finishing with meditation and chanting.
If you have never practiced meditation before, full instruction will be given and the practice will focus on how to get a comfortable seated or lying position for the meditation. When the weather permits, the meditation may be taken outside so you can enjoy an uplifting walking meditation amongst the beautiful grounds and birdsong.
These weekends are based on classic yoga practices, drawing largely on the traditions of Iyengar and Ashtanga Vinyasa. The weekend program will be tailored to the group, their experience, and what they would like to focus on during the weekend.
Iyengar Yoga is known for its intelligent anatomical alignment. It's a more static practice where you tend to hold a pose for a few breaths, paying attention to correct alignment. Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga incorporates the energetic principles of movement and flow. It's a dynamic sequence of movements, synchronized with the breath which builds internal heat in the body. The combination of these traditions helps you to build strength, stamina, concentration, and flexibility.
A cornerstone of this style of yoga is the appropriate use of props (straps, blankets, blocks, bricks, bolsters, chairs) to support you in your asana practice. This can be useful for complete beginners or for those (like most of us!) that have some physical limitations.
Over the course of the weekend, you will explore working with and without props to understand what it will take to develop the full expression of classical postures.
Rachel's yoga journey spans 40 years, starting with a deep grounding in the Iyengar system and more recently in Knoff Yoga, with complimentary practice in Ashtanga Vinyasa, Yin Yoga, and Scaravelli-inspired. She has completed over 600 hours of teacher training since 2001, in yoga, meditation and pranayama, achieved the Yoga Alliance 200 RYT, Knoff Yoga Foundation Certificate, Anatomy, and Physiology diploma (Otago Uni) and teaching certificates in Yin yoga and Aerial yoga.
