Shelley Williams has been an active student, practitioner, and teacher of mindful movement in the south bay community for over 15 years. She discovered her love of movement, however, long before that as a competitive teen gymnast, which then opened the door to the world of contemporary dance and professional modern dance performance. In 1996, Shelley was fortunate to find yoga and Pilates as a healing addition and alternative to the rigors of training and performance. Since then, yoga has provided her with more than a moving expression of meditation; it has become a way of life.
The Osa Peninsula is one of the most beautiful, wild, bio-diverse places on the planet. It is literally at the end of the road, off the pavement, off the grid, and about an hour’s car ride away from the nearest town, which means you step directly into nature at her fines without the swarm of crowds, lines of people, or fences to keep you separate from your own intimate experience with nature.
Here, you will find secret waterfalls cascading out of rocks into refreshing, naturally formed swimming pools. You can hike through the jungle out to the exposed, south facing coast and soak in ancient tide pool bathtubs filled with warm saltwater, right at the ocean’s edge.
You can also sway in a hammock, sipping fresh “pipa” (young coconut water) and watch all four species of Central American monkeys play in the trees, spy countless species of exotic birds, observe crazy amounts of colorful insects and majestic reptiles, and if you are lucky, perhaps spot a jungle cat.
Travel arrangements to the capital city of San Jose, Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO), can be made with many major airlines. It is a 7 to 9-hour drive or a 45-minute flight from San Jose to Puerto Jimenez, the closest town to Encanta la Vida. Once in Puerto Jimenez, Encanta la Vida's agent can arrange a taxi to pick you up at the airport for the 40-minute drive to the lodge. If driving, be sure your vehicle is four wheel drive.
"Have you ever been under the skillful care of any kind of practitioner that makes you believe with unwavering confidence that you are on the path to growth and healing? It is with this very confidence that I allowed myself to have a new and liberating experience with yoga. The Yoga Mittra facilitators shined a liberating light on any ideas I may have had about what service yoga was providing for me. I came to strengthen my practice, but stayed only to complete a much more spiritual journey and transformation which continues to unravel my limited ideas of what I thought I knew about all things yogic. The creative and nurturing allure of Shelly and Suzy allowed me to break away from daunting patterns and helped ease me into a life long commitment towards self-care and service to others. Thank you girls. I’m a better person because of my time learning from and with you."

"I had been practicing yoga for about 4 years off and on before deciding to the Yoga Mittra teacher training. I wasn’t sure what the outcome would be but I knew right away that I was in the right place. Suzy and Shelley are the perfect combo of bringing love, knowledge, humor, and experience to each and every class and lecture. Now almost 7 months out of training, I teach 4 - 8 classes a week, I get to sub at the Yoga Studio I call home, Yoga Loft, and I could not be happier with the education I received. Thank you Yoga Mittra!"

"I was thrilled to partake in teacher training with Shelley, Suzy, and Gen. They have been the foundation of yoga in the Southbay for years. As a physician, I was appreciative of their insight into anatomy and keen knowledge of instructing asanas safely. Plus they are a lot of fun!"
