The retreat is set in the uncontaminated, beautiful Italian countryside, in the fertile heart of Italy about 45 minutes from Rome. La Locanda della Quercia Galante is located in the Castel Giorgio countryside (in the province of Terni), 18 km from Orvieto, in Umbria on the border of Tuscany. You will stay in an old stone farmhouse nestled in the hills of Orvietto with all the modern conveniences.

It is environmentally friendly using solar energy and an advanced climate control system. The retreat has its own water supply endowed with unique energy properties. There is a fully equipped yoga studio. The retreat takes twenty-eight people with two people per room which is quite luxurious. All yoga props, linen and bath towels are provided. The feel of the entire venue is inviting and the staff cannot do enough to help and accommodate your needs.

Retreat with Yoga Mind

Retreat means to withdraw to a more favorable place where the environment and conditions allow us to get to collect our thoughts and re-assess our circumstances and reflect on our own existence. Yoga provides the means to deepen this experience.

Without the normal daily responsibilities and stresses there is an opportunity to realign and reenergize physically, mentally and emotionally. When your energies are managed and directed, they penetrate more deeply and the outcome is more obviously apparent.

People mistakenly believe that when they are tired and stressed, simply retiring and doing nothing will rejuvenate them. This only lulls them into inertia and doesn't provide the needed long-term effects of revitalizing the system.

It is the aim of this retreat to allow people to feel the full affects of a deepened Yoga practice without distraction and to move beyond a defensive, survival way of living and arrive at a 'yogic' state of mind which is 'constant integrated awareness.

Yoga schedule

There will be two yoga sessions per day. Mornings include silent sitting, pranayama and asana at approximately 7.00 a.m. to 10.30 a.m., and another asana session each afternoon approximately at 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.

Yoga with Glenn means being prepared to work and cultivate ones awareness. This program is designed to be a transformative experience and not just a needed break from life. Glenn's focus is on using the yoga as a tool for self-management on the physical, energetic and mental-emotional levels of ones being.

Weekly overview

For the week starting July 12, will develop in degree of difficulty and in level of maturity in order to increase the capacity and skill of those more experienced students and teachers. This is for those who already have some input from Glenn in previous years and/or teacher training. The week starting July 19 will consolidate the previous weeks and introduce the mature practice at the level reached.   • Glenn Ceresoli

    Glenn Ceresoli has extensive experience as both a teacher and practitioner of Iyengar yoga. A Yoga class with Glenn Ceresoli is an opportunity to imbibe his 29 years of experience and his relentless commitment and intention to break through the restrictive habits and conditions of the body/mind. Glenn's years of personal experience enable him to facilitate the process of this change through the practice of Yoga using the body and mind to know one's Self.

The Locanda della Quercia Calante is located in the Castel Giorgio countryside (in the province of Terni), a small village 18 kilometers from Orvieto, in Umbria, on the Tuscan border. In a verdant park, the holiday farm is only surrounded by quiet wooded hills and grassy glades.

It is the ideal spot for a natural vacation where you can regain your energy and wellbeing and visit Orvieto and Umbria, the fertile heart of Italy, with its uncontaminated countryside dotted with historical villages and artistic cities. The Locanda is open all year round to let you experience the atmosphere, fragrances, colors and flavors unique to each season.

The price is inclusive of all meals (breakfast, lunch, supper). The cuisine is typical of Umbria and Tuscany, based on genuine organic products grown on the farm. Special dietary needs are accommodated on request.

There will be time aside from the daily yoga practice to explore the surrounding area which is rich in natural and historic beauty. You may want to explore the grounds, swim or pull up a sun lounge and relax by the pool in the sun. A variety of restorative treatments can also be arranged on request.

There are many interesting places around and you may want to explore these although the focus is mainly on the yoga practice. Since Saturday is a day when people arrive and/or leave there will be a yoga session in the morning as usual, but the afternoon session will be free time. This is the day to arrange some sightseeing or quiet time to reflect.

Optional tours

There are countless tour itineraries from the holiday farm and Castel Giorgio (one kilometer away), including:

  • The discovery of traditional wines and flavors in Umbria, Lazio and Tuscany, revealing genuine local products such as wine, mushrooms, truffles, cheese, extra virgin olive oil, etc.
  • Numerous holy sites of the mysterious Etruscan civilization, the majestic city of Orvieto, the crystal clear Lake Bolsena, and others.
  • Ancient Medieval villages like Civita di Bagnoregio, Sovana, Sorano, Pitigliano, etc.
  • Numerous nearby spas such as the Medici San Casciano Bagni, or the romantic Bagno Vignoni.

The holiday farms holistic spa has a large 90 square meter yoga room with oak wood floors, cooled in the summer and heated in the winter, with large windows overlooking the park (equipped with all you need for yoga: mattresses, pillows, etc.), stereo system, PC projector and screen. A variety of restorative treatments can also be arranged on request.

    "Whilst attending a weekend intensive with Glenn in Adelaide, January 2010, something happened under his guidance during asana practice that shattered my limiting beliefs. I thought to myself: This is just one weekend, imagine the quality of work that can be done during two months with him. The seed was therefore sewn.During the early stages of the course, my nervous system began to calm with careful instruction from Glenn, creating a state of observation and peace that could be maintained during the most intense asana!This course is intense and there were times that I questioned myself! There is some comfort though knowing that I was in the hands of masters truly dedicated to the yogic path. Glenn and Margaret complement one another to bring harmony into the course structure.For me, many layers (Karmic and others) have been shed, some with sweat, others with tears and also feelings of illness which I now have understood to be the body's response to purging itself of blockages, toxins and stored emotions from past experiences.
