While a wide variety of people enjoy Deborah Joya's style, it is perhaps most appreciated by those who might feel out of place in most yoga classes or retreats. Deborah is passionate about practices that enhance wellbeing and joy, but everything is optional. You are encouraged to embrace your unique self and tailor your practice and your entire day to what is best for you.
This retreat takes place in two cities of Belize. The first seven days of the retreat will be spent in the beautiful rainforest near San Ignacio and the following four days will be spent on the island of Caye Caulker.
Most mornings you will enjoy a yoga session before breakfast. This morning session is for those who enjoy a greater physical challenge, as it tends to be more active, with practices like Vinyasa flow. The second yoga session is held after breakfast and is focused on self-discovery. There will also be guided meditation, which is intuitive and focused on deepening your connection to your emotional and energetic self.
Afternoons are free for relaxation or optional tours and activities. You may relax at the pool or beach, or explore the rainforest, rivers, caves, ruins, and reef. You can also enjoy time with others who are drawn here for similar reasons. Wonderful, lasting friendships have been formed on Deborah's retreats. Be yourself and, without even trying, you may just find transformation.
One tour to the Mayan ruins is included. During this tour, you will have the chance to practice yoga or meditation at the ruins. Also, Saturday is a travel day to the island, so there will be no tours on that day.
A boat ride and snorkeling trip at the island of Caye Caulker will allow you to enjoy the clear water and variety of wildlife in Belize. Bikes and canoes are provided.
The Mayan ruins invoke wonder, curiosity, and introspection, making them the perfect place to meditate during your visit.
Deborah has participated in and assisted many self-development seminars. The Heal Yourself Heal Your World Wellness Event in Apache Junction was an idea formulated in one of her seminars, and she created it with the help of several friends and the city. She received her Yoga Teacher Certification from Vince McCullough’s Pacifica West Institute. She is highly influenced by his elemental style of yoga, which emphasizes the dance of fire, the flow of water, the strength of earth, the breath of air, and the meditation of space. Since then, she has incorporated other yoga styles into her classes.
The rainforest has a healing presence in so many ways. With the rich foliage, the big green leaves, the colorful birds, the unusual animals, and the wide variety of sounds, the Mayan ruins invoke wonder, curiosity, and introspection. Nearby rivers, caves, and waterfalls are a perfect place to explore and relax.
The beach has its own healing qualities, such as the sound of the ocean, the feel of the sand, the birds, and the beauty. The Belizean culture is a draw in and of itself. The people are known to be laid back, creative, fun, loving, and welcoming. You will have the opportunity to enjoy local music, people, and cuisine for your dinners on the island.
During the first seven days, which are spent in the rainforest near San Ignacio, all meals are included. The delicious meals prepared at the lodge can be tailored to your preferences, whether they are meat, vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free related.
