Discover the beauty and tranquility of the mountains in Sardinia. Enjoy a relaxing week of stunning panoramas, exploration and gentle Hatha yoga, mindfulness, pranayama and yoga Nidra. The classes are fully inclusive, non-religious and designed to suit all ages and abilities. The focus for the week is on mindfulness and deep relaxation, not just in the meditation and yoga Nidra classes, but also in the yoga asana and in the other daily activities you might take part in. And being on retreat means the teacher has time to give each person individual attention, with the option to have one to one mentoring included in the price so you can discuss any experiences or challenges you have with your practice.
The hotel is in a tranquil mountain area with stunning views and easy access to areas of spectacular beauty for hiking and climbing. The hotel is open all year, and offers clean, economical accommodation and has 20 twin or double rooms, all with en suite bathroom with a shower, toilet and bidet. There is no air conditioning in the rooms, however the location is in the mountains and there is usually a lovely breeze. Wi-fi is available at the hotel, however we would also encourage you to take a total technology break, turn off those devices and get “online” with nature and your own inner peace instead!
Each morning begins with a class focusing on yoga postures (asana) and pranayama (breath), working mindfully and with a beginners playful curiosity, coming into being totally aware of the sensations of the physical body, and making subtle adjustments within each position to learn how to be able to listen intently to what the body is needing.
In the afternoons, you can continue working with the theme in your own time, or book a one to one mentoring session to discuss your experiences with the practice. Or alternatively, you can get out and about or take one of the optional excursions on offer.
In the early evening, there will be a themed mindfulness practice followed by a guided yoga Nidra, meditation and time for group discussion and further explanation on each of the practices and how you can apply them in everyday life. Mindfulness practice has been demonstrated to have significant benefits on physical, emotional and holistic health.
The hotel Rifugio d’Ogliastra is situated near Jerzu, the “city of wine”! The hotel is located in the countryside in a tranquil, natural amphitheatre formed by the “tacchi” of Ogliastra (“tacchi” are the distinctive limestone rock formations that take their name from the idea that they resemble upturned shoe heels). Nestled in the mountains, this hotel offers total tranquility, there are no other hotels next to it, no other dwellings, it’s secluded location allows you to immerse yourself in the beauty and nature of this unique area of Sardinia.
Half board meals consisting of daily breakfast and dinner are included in the price. At lunch and dinner, you can enjoy the local Sardinian dishes as well as international dishes, and in addition in the evenings there is the pizzeria, with a vast choice of pizzas.
You can sample all the specialties of Sardinia, Culurgiones (pasta filled with potato, mint and pecorino), spit-roast pork and lamb, locally cured ham, Casu Agedu (fresh goats cheese), bottarga (fish roe), pistoccu (Sardinian flat bread) and then Sebadas, served warm and drizzled with local honey or sweet ricotta ravioli.
The wine list, with its wide selection including the renowned Vino Cannonau produced in several communes in Barbagia and Ogliastra, deserves a special mention.
Lunches are not included in the price but available at an extra charge.
