The hotel is in a tranquil mountain area with stunning views and easy access to areas of spectacular beauty for hiking and climbing. The hotel is open all year, and offers clean, economical accommodation and has 20 twin or double rooms, all with en suite bathroom with a shower, toilet and bidet. There is no air conditioning in the rooms, however the location is in the mountains and there is usually a lovely breeze. Wi-fi is available at the hotel, however we would also encourage you to take a total technology break, turn off those devices and get “online” with nature and your own inner peace instead!

What an average day on retreat like?

Each morning begins with a class focusing on yoga postures (asana) and pranayama (breath), working mindfully and with a beginners playful curiosity, coming into being totally aware of the sensations of the physical body, and making subtle adjustments within each position to learn how to be able to listen intently to what the body is needing.

In the afternoons, you can continue working with the theme in your own time, or book a one to one mentoring session to discuss your experiences with the practice. Or alternatively, you can get out and about or take one of the optional excursions on offer.

In the early evening, there will be a themed mindfulness practice followed by a guided yoga Nidra, meditation and time for group discussion and further explanation on each of the practices and how you can apply them in everyday life. Mindfulness practice has been demonstrated to have significant benefits on physical, emotional and holistic health.

Alexandra Redmond

Alex has been practicing yoga and meditation for over 15 years and started teaching 5 years ago. Alex is a founding member and President of Yoga in Sardinia, a non-profit cultural association based in Sardinia aimed at promoting the benefits of yoga, meditation and holistic health. She has also recently launched Stress Management for a Modern World, an online mindfulness based stress management course.

Alex is a vegan with a strong affinity to the practice of Ahimsa, the yogic non-harming philosophy. She loves to cook vegan dishes and often shares her favorite recipes on her blog and on her Pinterest Recipe board. Alex also blogs about her life in Sardinia and tries to promote the island through her pictures on Instagram and through her blog and has created a featured guide about her local area of Ogliastra on Stay.com. She has also been a featured contributor at Om Times Magazine and has written articles for Waking Times.

The hotel Rifugio d’Ogliastra is situated near Jerzu, the “city of wine”! The hotel is located in the countryside in a tranquil, natural amphitheatre formed by the “tacchi” of Ogliastra (“tacchi” are the distinctive limestone rock formations that take their name from the idea that they resemble upturned shoe heels). Ogliastra is in the heart of Gennargentu, home of the centenarians and of Cannonau, where the ancient culture is still present in everyday life and it seems as time stopped long ago. Nestled in the mountains, this hotel offers total tranquility, there are no other hotels next to it, no other dwellings, it’s secluded location allows you to immerse yourself in the beauty and nature of this unique area of Sardinia.

"I cannot thank and recommend Alex at yoga in sardinia enough. I had a wonderful holiday. Alex Is a brilliantly patient and friendly teacher and a lovely person. We did yoga in various different places including the local beach which was a stunning location. We did hatha yoga each morning combined with mindfulness meditations and it was a fabulous way to start the day. The rest of the holiday was spent exploring the beautiful beaches, villages and hiking trails. I will definitely be back some day and have already recommended Alex to my friends."

"Alexandra Redmond is a very fine yoga teacher. Her lessons are intense, with focus on postures that suit the participant best, good breathing, and spiritual balance. During Indra Yoga and Mindfulness her voice is a wonderful and unforgettable guide. What I also appreciate very much is that she teaches only small groups, even if the group consists of only one person, in this case only me!The location was terrific: a beautiful hotel, near a fine, not overcrowded beach, beautiful spacious rooms, and excellent food. Besides, nobody should miss having massages. They are a great experience. I will certainly go back."

"I enjoyed the most - Yoga Nidra – but also, everything! The several hours a day of personal work. The quality of the exchange with Alex as a person and teacher. The sense that Alex has gone through enough to have a lot to give to others. The personal support for my physical needs."

"The whole experience was great, but if I had pick one it would be the mindfulness; I have never done in group sessions (group of 5); it was very interesting to compare and get feedback off kindred spirits regarding how mindfulness meditation impacts us in our daily lives."

"I had an amazing week with Yoga in Sardinia. Everything was absolutely perfect. The yoga and meditation classes with Alex were inspiring, relaxing, and wholesome. Alex is a great teacher. She was so friendly and caring towards everybody and really took the time if there was anything you wanted to ask, talk about, or practice some more. She's open about her own experiences in life and the way yoga and meditation helped her, which was especially inspiring for me.Furthermore, spending a week at Galanias Hotel was fantastic. With beautiful surroundings, delicious food, and friendly staff, I couldn't ask for more!"

"My experience with the Yoga and Mindfulness Retreat with Alex at Galanias Hotel was perfect and fantastic. From the first contact, Alex was very quick to respond and she hung in there through all the exchanges required. There were some glitches in the online payment setup that I hope get fixed, but all totally worth the extra effort. The retreat itself was just what I needed. The combination of yoga, mindfulness practice, Pranayama and Yoga Nidra was phenomenal - Yoga Nidra was new for me, and I love it.Alex herself is a person who "walks her talk" and has a lot of personal experience to back up what she offers, and plenty of humor and openness along the way. For me, with back and hip issues, what we did was tailored to my needs, and at my level of yoga (beginner), I felt perfectly supported. I'm looking forward to implementing some of our practice into my day to day life.In addition to the above, the location is incredible! The pagoda where our work took place is so beautiful, and the view can't be beat. Even in the heat of July-August, the breeze was perfect. And the Galanias Hotel - wow! Unbelievable food, really beautiful aesthetics, with incredibly friendly and charming staff. The walk to the beach is also easy (you pass a fruit stand along the way) and the water is so clear - a perfect way to recharge your batteries and get rejuvenated and treat yourself to affordable luxury!I would definitely love to go again and recommend this without hesitation to people at my level (for more advanced levels, I don't know)."
