During this retreat, you will be staying at Galanias Hotel and Retreat Domos Galanas. The hotel is a peaceful, idyllic place to wind down and relax. Laid on a nice hill overviewing the coast and the beautiful beach of La Torre di Barì, the hotel has been conceived as a peaceful oasis, surrounded by the Mediterranean maquis.

Built in the typical Sardinian style, it is composed of three buildings. In two of them there are 33 rooms and in the main building, the other 10 rooms. Guests are facilitated with reception, bar, restaurant, two panoramic swimming pools with whirlpool, private parking, and garden. There is free Wi-Fi at reception, bar, restaurant, and swimming pool.

All rooms are well equipped and decorated with handmade furniture, created by local craftsmen. Every room has an independent entrance, air conditioning, mini bar, bathroom with shower, hairdryer, TV, and a safe. There is also a suite with open loft. There are two types of room to choose from, namely the garden room and the superior room. Both are private and can accommodate two persons.

The hotel has a yoga shala for group activities. There is also has a small gym and additional massage treatments offered by the hotel therapist, which are available by appointment through the reception.

Mantra meditation is a powerful practice that develops with repetition. For this reason, the retreat will follow a very structured program. The first day will be dedicated to learning the theory, and will include:

    • Introduction to the mala
    • Introduction to the symbolism of the Bodhisattva Avolekitesvara
    • Mantra to empower the mala
    • Positions of sun salutations
    • Pronunciation and meaning of the mantras

The rest of the week will be dedicated to the experiential practice. There will be daily repetitions, in order to develop and deepen the mantra.

Each morning will begin with a sun salutation class with mantra. You will be learning different postures and the mantras. You will be working gently, with the spirit of loving kindness, taking breaks whenever you need to.

The practice will develop over the week, until it becomes a holistic meditational experience of body, sound, and breath. The second half of the morning class will be dedicated to pranayama, to develop the lungs and to open the breath ready for the pranava aum meditation.

In the afternoon, you can continue working with the mantra in your own time, or book a one-on-one mentoring session to discuss your experiences with the practice. Alternatively, you can get out and about or take one of the optional excursions on offer.

In the early evening, there will be a guided metta and mantra meditation, followed by a guided yoga Nidra class. You will be working with the mantra of compassion, om mani padme hum.

Mantra practice has been proved to have significant benefits on physical, emotional, and holistic health. It has the effect of quieting the incessant stream of thoughts that too often takes over your existence.

    • Alexandra Redmond

Alexandra has been practicing Hatha yoga and meditation for over 15 years, and started teaching in 2009. She has qualifications in pre- and postnatal yoga. She is also a Reiki practitioner. Alex is a founding member and president of Yoga in Sardinia, a non-profit cultural association. The association aimed at promoting the benefits of yoga, meditation, and holistic health. She has also recently launched an online mindfulness-based stress management course.

The retreat will take place in the countryside, near Barisardo, a coastal town in southeast Sardinia. It is situated in a peaceful, mindful region near the sea, well known for its vineyards and local red wine.

Region Ogliastra is in the heart of Gennargentu, home of the centenarians and of Cannonau, the red grape responsible for the fantastic wine made here. Ogliastra is often referred to as the ‘island within an island’. The region offers an abundance of pleasures. It is sheltered away from the overcrowded tourist areas.

The ancient culture is still present in everyday life. Here, it seems like time has stopped long ago. The people of Ogliastra are very passionate about their traditions. There are festivals throughout the year celebrating their history, culture, and cuisine.

The sea is beautifully transparent turquoise. This area has miles and miles of sandy beaches. Barisardo beaches will offer you the opportunity to walk over 10 kilometers on the beach without interruption.

Among these, sea canoeing is the most sought-after. The canoeist’s privileged position and the absolute silence, interrupted only by the noise of the paddle.

"Yes, it was really nice experience, we were 2 couples, have rented 2 apartments in Cardeddu and Alex came each morning on our terrasse for 2 hours of meditation, yoga, and relaxation. We have really enjoyed this retreat because each morning classes were differents, and we come back home with new keys for yoga meditation and mindfulness. Alex is very, patient and helpful for all the things to visit in the surroundings too. We highly recommended Alex for a yoga retreat and hope to experience another time with her, perhaps in Corsica, why not!!! Thanks you very much Alex.", edited

"Alexandra Redmond is a very fine yoga teacher. Her lessons are intense, with a focus on postures that suit the participant best, good breathing, and spiritual balance. During Nidra yoga and mindfulness, her voice is a wonderful and unforgettable guide. What I also appreciate very much is that she teaches only small groups, even if the group consists of only one person, in this case only me! The location was terrific: a beautiful hotel, near a fine, not overcrowded beach, beautiful spacious rooms, and excellent food. Besides, nobody should miss having massages. They are a great experience. I will certainly go back." website, edited

"I had an amazing week with Yoga in Sardinia. Everything was absolutely perfect. The yoga and meditation classes with Alex were inspiring, relaxing, and wholesome. Alex is a great teacher. She was so friendly and caring towards everybody and really took the time if there was anything you wanted to ask, talk about, or practice some more. She's open about her own experiences in life and the way yoga and meditation helped her, which was especially inspiring for me. Furthermore, spending a week at the Galanias Hotel was fantastic. With beautiful surroundings, delicious food, and friendly staff, I couldn't ask for more!" website, edited

"My experience with the yoga and mindfulness retreat with Alex at the Galanias hotel was perfect and fantastic. From the first contact, Alex was very quick to respond and she hung in there through all the exchanges required. There were some glitches in the online payment setup that I hope get fixed, but all totally worth the extra effort. The retreat itself was just what I needed. The combination of yoga, mindfulness practice, pranayama, and yoga Nidra was phenomenal - yoga Nidra was new for me, and I love it. Alex herself is a person who walks her talk and has a lot of personal experience to back up what she offers, and plenty of humor, and openness along the way. For me, with back and hip issues, what we did was tailored to my needs, and at my level of yoga (beginner), I felt perfectly supported. I'm looking forward to implementing some of our practice into my day to day life. In addition to the above, the location is incredible! The pagoda where our work took place is so beautiful, and the view can't be beaten. Even in the heat of July-August, the breeze was perfect. And the Galanias Hotel - wow! Unbelievable food, really beautiful aesthetics, with incredibly friendly and charming staff. The walk to the beach is also easy (you will pass a fruit stand along the way) and the water is so clear - a perfect way to recharge your batteries and get rejuvenated and treat yourself to affordable luxury. I would definitely love to go again and recommend this without hesitation to people at my level (for more advanced levels, I don't know)." website, edited

"La retraite était magique, je remercie infiniment Alex pour ses beaux partages et pour ce qu'elle m'a fait découvrir, pour les jolies visualisations et la découverte du Yoga Nidra, pour sa bienveillance, ainsi que pour son aide dans la planification de mon voyage. La région est magnifique, et c'est tout autre chose de pouvoir faire les leçons de yoga sur la plage le matin. Le propriétaire du logement est également très sympathique et disponible. Je pense sérieusement à y retourner cet été.", edited
