Yoga Retreat Fiji with Mark Robberds

  • 6 days with instruction
  • Join Yoga in Fiji for an Ashtanga yoga retreat in the wonderful town of Savusavu. Ashtanga yoga is a system of yoga developed by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009). It involves synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures. It is a robust and demanding practice, producing intense internal heat. The profuse and purifying sweat that comes with it detoxifies muscles and organs, resulting in improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.

    • Mark Robberds

Mark Robberds has been studying yoga since 1997. He is a certified Ashtanga yoga teacher (one of the few certified by KPJAYI) and spent 10 years travelling regularly to India to practice with the late legendary guru Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois, and the last six years with his grandson R. Sharath of Mysore. He also trained as an apprentice, first with Mathew Sweeney and then with Eileen Hall from 1999 to 2005 at YogaMoves in Sydney.

Daku Resort is on Fiji’s northern island of Vanua Levu, just outside the small town of Savusavu. Fiji has about 300 islands. The two big ones are Viti Levu, where you’ll arrive when you fly into Nadi Internation Airport, and Vanua Levu. But whilst Viti Levu has most of the population and gets most of the tourism, Vanua Levu is still a sleepy backwater with a small population and a fraction of the tourist numbers.

    Banana wrap

This three in one treatment starts with a full body scrub and mask before your body is literally wrapped in fresh banana leaves. Whilst wrapped, your masseurs will give you a scalp massage followed by a rejuvenating full body massage. This treatment costs 170 AUD for two hours.

    Fancy footwork

A relaxing treat for your feet. After being bathed in petal strewn water, your feet will be exfoliated with a gentle locally made scented foot scrub. If you wish, your therapist will tidy your nails and cuticles before giving you a foot and lower leg massage. A natural foot mask will then be applied and your feet will be wrapped in banana leaves whilst the skin absorbs the nutrients from the natural foot mask. Once the mask is removed, the feet are then massaged with coconut oil. This treatment costs 80 AUD for 60 minutes.

    Fijian bobo massage

A traditional massage practiced in Fiji, a culture deeply rooted in healing rituals. It uses tropical coconut oil combined with long sweeping massage strokes which stimulate circulation and release tension and ends with a final sweeping motion of the body and worries and stress are sent away. This treatment costs 80 AUD for 60 minutes.

    Fijian champissage

Head, neck, and shoulder massage is a wonderfully relaxing therapy, which is not only safe and simple but is also very effective in providing relief from the aches and pains created and associated with stress. This treatment can help to alleviate the symptoms of insomnia, migraine, eye strain, and sinusitis as well as promote hair growth, all whilst soothing, comforting, and rebalancing energy flow providing a deep sense of peace, calm, and tranquility. This treatment costs 80 AUD for 60 minutes.

    Fijian facial finesse

A beautiful combination of cleanse, scrub, mask, and massage to work away the build-up of toxins and help revitalize your skin. This massage utilizes a series of repetitive movements across the skin and facial pressure points to reduce lines, tighten the skin, increase skin elasticity, and promote blood circulation. This treatment costs 80 AUD for 60 minutes.

"I’ve been one week in Daku resort for a yoga retreat, I spent one of my best holidays ever! The staff is fabulous, always looking after your needs, its a friendly and warm atmosphere, they make you feel at home in family. The location is just amazing front of the sea, the ideal place to have a beautiful rest and yoga classes. Everything you need to enjoy Fiji and its culture. Amazing excursion and especially snorkeling and village trip. The owner JJ and Delia are lovely soul people, always smiling and willing to have discussion, lunch or dinner with you. I’ll never forget those holidays and cant forward to come back there. Thanks for all!"

"Hi Liz, just a thank you note about the wonderful retreat you ran at Daku in Savusavu. I enjoyed all aspects of the retreat: the yoga, the other attendees, the resort, the food, the warm friendly people, and their customs, the excursions - the list goes on and on. Most of all was the benefit I received from the yoga. Your teaching was just fantastic. Your gentle, yet lively manner together with your intuition resulted in wonderful yoga classes. I have returned home full of inspiration to continue to extend and deepen my own practices. Liz, your integrity, ecological awareness, and fun-filled attitude carried on from the classes throughout the whole retreat making it all such a pleasure to be a part of. I hope the other attendees gained as much benefit and enjoyment from the retreat as I did."

      "Thank you and namaste."
