An intimate retreat in the heart of Portugal where you can explore your practice and extend your knowledge, with the space and time to integrate your experience. Connect with nature and connect with yourself on an intimate retreat at Yoga Holidays Portugal beautiful home in the heart of Portugal. Their home is a small quinta situated in a peaceful valley just on the edge of a traditional Portuguese village. They live entirely off grid, offering you the chance to experience a truly sustainable yoga holiday. Make some time and space for yourself to deepen your yoga practice and enjoy a relaxing, eco-friendly retreat.
Accommodation is in one of Yoga Holidays Portugal's four comfortable yurts, based on two guests sharing a yurt. Their retreats will have no more than 8 guests. They are able to accommodate couples as we have two double beds in two of the yurts.
Each of their permanent yurts has their own bathroom and kitchen facilities, which guests will share with no more than 3 other guests. As they are living sustainably, their bathrooms have solar heated hot water and eco-composting toilets. All beds have mosquito nets. All yurts have some shelving and storage areas.
The yurts have lighting and electricity for charging phones and laptops. They provide bedding and a bath towel. They do recommend guests bring a towel for swimming and for yoga practice if you require.
Yoga Holidays Portugal's yurts are made in the Mongolian style, on site in Portugal, using pine and chestnut wood from our land. Almost all the furniture inside the yurts is also made by hand on site. They allocate beds in the yurts on a first come first served basis. They can accommodate two couples per retreat.
Each week will include 6 morning classes, 4 afternoon classes, a local river beach, local walks, and afternoon swimming trips to reservoir.
Yoga classes will include asana, pranayama, meditation and yoga Nidra, which encourage you to move deeper into your practice, examine your intentions, and maybe learn something new about yourself, your body and your connection to the world around you.
You will have an opportunity to deepen your practice, expand your knowledge and integrate your experience. They teach a breath led practice with an emphasis on individual bodies and their needs.
Yoga Holidays Portugal is just a 10 minutes' drive from the pretty village of Pedrogao Pequeno, and close to several swimming places in the Cabril Reservoir, and Zezere River. They live just 1 kilometer from the resevoir, and a place which is suitable for young children to swim under supervision. They can also recommend other places suitable and accessible for children.
Central Portugal is full of old castles, churches, monasteries and Roman ruins. Yoga Holidays Portugal is just over an hour's drive from Coimbra, an historic university city, and the Roman ruins at Conimbriga, which have some very well preserved mosaics. They are also close to Tomar (45 minutes drive), which has a famous Templar castle. Fatima, the place of pilgrimage for many Catholics is also nearby. There are plenty of local activities available for those wanting a more active holiday.
Expect three yummy vegetarian (lacto-ovo) meals a day. The food Yoga Holidays Portugal serves is approximately 80 percent vegan, and 30-40 percent raw. They also occasionally use eggs and cheese.
Breakfast is self-service with seasonal fruits, a selection of cereals, toasted sourdough and local corn bread, accompanied by homemade jam or marmalade. A selection of teas (green, black, and herbal) and coffee is available throughout the day.
Lunches are fresh garden salads, grain salads, falafel, and Spanish omelette. A variety of raw dips, nut pates, or hummus is also usually served.
Evening meals include a variety of curries with biryani rice or coconut rice, vegetable noodles with stir-fry tofu and vegetables, moussaka and salad, spiced potatoes with honey aubergine and couscous.
The food they prepare and serve is tasty and wholesome vegetarian and vegan food. They use vegetables and fresh herbs from our own organic garden, and locally sourced fruit and vegetables. They also have goats here and make their own cheese.
Yoga Holidays Portugal spend a lot of time preparing the food for their guests with care, and they have received really good feedback. Please let Yoga Holidays Portugal know when booking if you have any special dietary requirements.
During the week Yoga Holidays Portugal will run at least two guided local walks. Their property is surrounded by woods, with many tracks and beautiful old abandoned houses and buildings. It is also close to the reservoir, and a village. One of them will lead a walk down to the old fishermans cottage near the reservoir, and another walk through to woods, and around their village.
Yoga Holidays Portugal have local therapists available to provide a variety of treatments for our guests such as Reiki, massage, reflexology etc.
Once you come onto the IC8, drive east until you come to the Pedrgo Pequeno & Oleiros (EN 350) turn off.
Please note that you will pass two turns for Pedrogao Grande, before you come to the Pedrogao Pequeno turn.
Once you turn off onto the EN 350 road to Oleiros, you will drive about 10-15mins until you come to the left turn to Madeir.
Turn here and follow the road into the beginning of the village.
Take the left turn signed for Sobral, follow this road down a hill and take the next left, white house on the corner, onto a much smaller lane.
Follow this lane around to the left, onto a cobbled road, into a small hamlet.
Continue driving until you come to a sharp left turn.
Take this left up the hill, passing a couple of small buildings, then bear right, turn right at the crossroads, and continue to follow this small road until you come to a parking area.
Either give them a call when you arrive, or walk down the path.
They will drive their 4WD to your car to collect your belongings and deliver them to the yurt.
The nearest airports are Lisbon and Porto. You can fly into either Lisbon or Porto via EasyJet, Ryan Air and TAP.
We are located in central Portugal, almost the same distance from both Lisbon and Porto airport, the journey from both airports takes roughly the same length of time.
From Lisbon Airport, you can catch a bus or taxi to Sete Rios bus station.
If it can be arranged with four people or more, we can collect you from the airport.
This will be organized as we accept bookings for each retreat.
The price for this service will be based on the number of people we can coordinate to collect.
